13:55 the guy wearing the samurai outfit. his reaction to finding out he is wearing crocs is priceless. like he always told his friends " I WILL NEVER WEAR CROCS" then bam they tell him those are crocs xD
That horns thing is kinda annoying. Vikings were actual warriors; you don't see soldiers today waltzing around in combat wearing antlers on their foreheads either.
Understandable. However since these costumes weren't made (i hope) with the intention of absolute historical accuracy I'd say its fair we shouldn't judge them for historical accuracy. Because regardless the costumes are amazingly made!
Frank, I've watched a lot of your videos, but this is the first time I think I've seen any of your crew. Those guys all deserve high fives. You all did a really great job. And keep these coming. These are fantastic for learning and generating new ideas.
I wonder if anyone complaining about the realism of the armour has seen any For Honor gameplay. The game is way over the top with its sole purpose seemingly to make you feel like a badass. I don't think the developers are at all unaware of what historical armor and weapons looked like, they just purposefully went crazy with it.
Jelle van M. Interestingly, the soldiers that basically fight on middle objectives are pretty darn close to realistic counterparts in terms of looks. I thought it was a nice, simplistic touch.
is it wrong that I think halloween costumes should receive this much effort? it's basically my favorite holiday and other people don't get that into it anymore.
I know this is a year late, but I wanted to say I agree with you. I made my samurai armor for Halloween this year completely out of wood based on orochi's marching fire armor.
As a Warden main, i can say with great respect, that you did awesome on the Armor and the coloring. My only issue with the Warden's armor is that there is no sword to go with said badass armor. The Samurai and Viking are badass as well, but I prefer the Warden TBH.
Despite the naysayers and nitpickers in the comments. I loved this video. One of the most inspiring ones I've seen in a while, in fact, I'm going to go buy some foam mats and see what I come up with. Keep it up!
I like to use foam pvc, it's cheap and the site I go to will custom cut it into rectangles for you. Just use a heat gun, oven, or boil it in water and bend it to your will.
The knight looks nice. I'm working on a knight cosplay too, but mine is going to be actual steel armor. I'm actually making the gauntlets right now as I'm watching this.
I have watched way too much Lindybeige, based on how disappointed I was in the scarring and unkempt look of the armor (yes, I get that it's based on the game's concept art, but still...).
Yeah I actually get annoyed over things like that to. The costumes are great but really do not feel realistic. Funny thing is that because they try to make thing so lived in and "realistic" they go in for a sort of hyper-realism where everything gets exaggerated. Armour becomes way more bulker to give it a sense of weight. Everything becomes dirty because thing where not always so clean back in the day. Or so it is in the imagination of people. I think it can be partly a result of how computer generated simulations are so artificial in core that is hard to add the details needed to actually make it seem like a living world with substance. So the focus becomes on some aspects that get exaggerated well beyond what is realistic. But even in movies we often see exaggerations though I think often to a lesser extent.
Henry Bell I've gotten to the point that I just block out those monstrosities. I didn't even realize there was one until you pointed it out. Damn medieval christians giving pagans devil horns. ;P
I'm not really sure about the historical accuracy of the armours, but it seems to really match the video game. Great job, Frank! Not so great job Ubisoft :( Note about the axe: a battle axe should also be thin, similar to a sword's thickness. You can get away with it more easily, since everyone knows only wood chopping axes, but it's still inaccurate (the battle axe on the promo images looks better, but still too bulky).
True, but it isn't supposed to be accurate. It's fantasy, so the style is exaggerated. A historian could nitpick the crap out of the armor for historical inaccuracies. But that doesn't nullify the team's effort to make beautiful and badass **cosplay** costumes in such a short amount of time.
Yeah, 99% of a war is walking around and sitting at a campfire. Wouldn't want to carry an axe weighing 15 kg around for that time. An axe head that size would also have a hard time getting through armor
In cases like this, historical accuracy takes a major backseat to what looks more characteristic. It's not really about what knights, samurai or vikings really wore, it's about what communicates that role most clearly as a character :)
He's doing it live now. On Still Untitled yesterday they said the videos would probably post in a couple of months. Right now they have a HUGE backlog of videos that they shot in AU and NZ the last 2 weeks.
"there are horns on viking's helmet so historically inaccurate" but no one cares about the viking fighting the samurai fighting the knight thing this game is set in an alternate universe get over it
+Trilluminati Israel yes, because in this world Vikings, samurai, and knights fought each other all the time. shame on them for not accurately depicted an actual historical event. very disrespectful.
That's why I like the Adams one day builds series. It usually shows the whole process, but what he makes is nothing compared to the amount of work these take so it's a lot easier to film.
Frank, that chainmaille is machine knit, and if you don't close the joins it will start falling apart on you. I'm a chainmaille armorer, so if you need any tips, PM me.

cataracta moana Ayn Rand wrote the book "Atlas Shrugged", and D'Anconia Copper is a business one of the protagonists owns. Let's just say Ayn Rand's books have a very heavy handed, and very controversial, political message. Normally any mention of her name on the internet is enough to start a flame war.
Great job, Frank! Been watching you since Face-Off. So, I see No-Face on your shirt, but who else is on there? I couldn't get a close enough look at it. Watched it a couple of times at the end...
I never found them on the website. I dug through forums until I got fed up, but I didn't see them at all. I assume they're behind the Premium pay wall.
Leonardo Hernández it's on Evil Ted Smith's website for $5 per set.they are A4 pdf files. After you make your payment, the download link is with your receipt.
***** Really? Which historical Figures? I don't remember some giant apocalypse happening that Caused European, Norse and Japanese warrior fighting for 1000 years. there's already been shown to be magic, It's FANTASY, get over it.
That knight is a beautiful piece of art. the weathering on that helmet.... wow! utterly amazing.
13:55 the guy wearing the samurai outfit. his reaction to finding out he is wearing crocs is priceless. like he always told his friends " I WILL NEVER WEAR CROCS" then bam they tell him those are crocs xD
The weathered paint on the knight's helmet looks so good
The samurai looks down like "Ah shit, I'm wearing Crocs?!"
People seem to be more concerned over the historical accuracy of the costumes than the craftsmanship.
That horns thing is kinda annoying.
Vikings were actual warriors; you don't see soldiers today waltzing around in combat wearing antlers on their foreheads either.
*Historical Fantasy*
Still rude.
It's not marvel's thor level of rude, I'll give you that. That doesn't make it ok.
Understandable. However since these costumes weren't made (i hope) with the intention of absolute historical accuracy I'd say its fair we shouldn't judge them for historical accuracy. Because regardless the costumes are amazingly made!

these costumes are not only beautiful but perfectly done! holy shit!!
I wonder if anyone complaining about the realism of the armour has seen any For Honor gameplay. The game is way over the top with its sole purpose seemingly to make you feel like a badass. The paintjob on the Knight helmet looks absolutely amazing.
is it wrong that I think halloween costumes should receive this much effort? it's basically my favorite holiday and other people don't get that into it anymore.

@@josiahmartin736 Holy cow that sounds freaking awesome, you got any pictures?
Knight looks so awesome !
Title of video says "Making Historical Fantasy Cosplay Armor for E3!" not "Making historically accurate realistic replica armor for reenactments..."
SrgntBallisticGaming yes just yes
yes!
Potato
Norm is looking suave in this vid
Hey guys Billy Norm here
+MidnightDust lmao
What? What do you mean?
+ArtDamage911 i thought he had a wife
As a Warden main, i can say with great respect, that you did awesome on the Armor and the coloring. My only issue with the Warden's armor is that there is no sword to go with said badass armor. The Samurai and Viking are badass as well, but I prefer the Warden TBH.
BOO U INDEFEATABLE GARBAGE try playing a character that takes skill
I think Norm is one of the best interviewers on TH-cam.
He's getting better. Still not good, but not terrible any more.
damn that looks so cool. The paint was done so gooooood
9:10 I think the finishing part of everything is Aging and Dying
Norm took his look up a notch. Business casual. As opposed to the standard shorts and tshirt.
I need the templates for that knight helmet
12:06
It would be awesome to see the Tested bunch create a full Mandalorian (e.g., Boba Fett) armor suit, or even simply the helmet!
Despite the naysayers and nitpickers in the comments. I loved this video. One of the most inspiring ones I've seen in a while, in fact, I'm going to go buy some foam mats and see what I come up with. Keep it up!
Frank is being a badass giving due credit to his team.
You've got a great team Frank! You do a great job of recognizing them as well! A good boss always recognizes his/her team. Keep up the great work!
For Honor looks amazing when i seen this tested pop up in my subscription list i was alllll over it!!!
I beta tested for Ubisoft, the game is amazing!
Trilluminati Israel It looks bad ass man
Warden looks like a fucking badass. Great work guys
The armor is amazing, any word on when/if the patterns are up yet?
Cyan Junkie I made my own patterns up on my channel!!
I bet the actors were excited to wear the costumes..until they saw the crocs! :D You guys did an amazing job tho!
love that d'anconia copper shirt
Woah thanks for clearing that up XD thought you were Kylo at the end there
Those guys wearing the costumes look so uncomfortable lol
Most anticipated game! fantastic work guys, these costumes are excellent.
i cant wait for the templates, i wanna make that knight's helmet
The warden helmet was slightly tall but they were still awsome! My favorite was the kensei.
This is so fucking awesome. I love videos like this.
You mentioned "aging and dying" for the fabrics... What kind of dye are you using?
I like to use foam pvc, it's cheap and the site I go to will custom cut it into rectangles for you. Just use a heat gun, oven, or boil it in water and bend it to your will.
The armor needs more reflectivity, and sanding/such in a few areas too get the proper roughness vs reflectivity.
sooooo when are those templates coming out?
Niko Opperman made my own on my channel for free!
The knight looks nice. I'm working on a knight cosplay too, but mine is going to be actual steel armor. I'm actually making the gauntlets right now as I'm watching this.
Awesome video, inspirational stuff to keep me going!
Is there going to be a Tested Comic-Con party this year? Last year's was awesome!
'Shit man, I'm wearing Crocs!?'
Good video, couldn't help but notice the Titan Helmet from "Destiny: the Taken King" in the background.
I have watched way too much Lindybeige, based on how disappointed I was in the scarring and unkempt look of the armor (yes, I get that it's based on the game's concept art, but still...).

It looks awesome though.

Post Apocalyptic mediaeval fantasy ;)
I also hate that the viking had a horned helmet.

The game is not based on history.
hence the "fantacy" in the title

so, where are the templates you guys said you would give us? I can't find them anywhere
Toasted Bagel it's on Evil Ted Smith's website for $5.
Toasted Bagel made my own on my channel for free!
Damn THESE ARE WELL DONE!!
OMG.. if i could get the patterns THAT WOULD BE AMAZING.. Please Frank let's get them posted.
I love that Knight's helmet! Very cool paint job - would love to see some details and how-to on that :)
when is adam his strandbeest project on tested?
when its actually done, he was just doing a live broadcast of it yesterday
+Sillyzombie666 i know thats why i ask
He's doing it live now. On Still Untitled yesterday they said the videos would probably post in a couple of months. Right now they have a HUGE backlog of videos that they shot in AU and NZ the last 2 weeks.
That samurai actor was so smug..
wow such craftmanship, I need the template for the knight armor :0
$60 bucks for chainmail!!!!!!!!!!
I'm gonna order some right now!!!!
Are the patterns up yet!
"there are horns on viking's helmet so historically inaccurate"
but no one cares about the viking fighting the samurai fighting the knight thing
this game is set in an alternate universe get over it
stfu
No one ever stated that it was in an alternate universe. If it was, why would the other two factions depict their culture so accurately?
+Trilluminati Israel yes, because in this world Vikings, samurai, and knights fought each other all the time. shame on them for not accurately depicted an actual historical event. very disrespectful.
TheSweetestCurse These three factions never met through the course of Human history, so either you're trying to be sarcastic or ...
Can anyone tell me where I can get my hands on those patterns for the helmets?
Joel Elias made my own on my channel for free!
amazing!!! i would love to see much longer video about all that fabrication work. :-)
Frank - Love the t-shirt!!
"crocs wraped in foam" i was dying when he said that
Please post patterns for the samurai clothing!
Is there an extimate of the date the templates will get released? I really want to build the knight helmet and samurai helmet!
When are the patterns coming?
amazing video ! great work
Damn the Knight looks cool, I don't mind this grim dirty fantasy look.
The helmet pasterns will that require tested premium?
We're knights of the round table
We dance whenever we're able
We do routines and chorus scenes
With footwork impeccable
We dine well here in Camelot
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot
We're knights of the round table
Our shows are formidable
But many times we're given rhymes
That are quite unsingable
We're opera mad in Camelot
We sing from the diaphragm a lot
War we're tough and able, quite indefatigable
Between our quests we sequin vests
And impersonate Clark Gable
It's a busy life in Camelot
I have to push the pram a lot
I wanna see a power armor costume by these guys
that knight was pretty awesome looking. I would have bought tabi boots and made armour pieces around them, instead of the crocs.
What is the material they keep talking about? Warbla? Wurbluh?
Great work, wow!
Does anyone have a link to the space armor video they're referencing around the 6:30 mark?
soooooo... the patterns?
Hey, could you show us more of the cave and one day builds? René from Germany:-)
I'm surprised more people aren't commenting on Frank's shirt
I'd be disappointed if it turned out he buys into Randian philosophy, but there's no denying it's a sweet looking shirt.
I Loved Ayn Rands books, I noticed the shirt right away, and thought someone must have commented. D'Anconia Copper will rise again!
+pylonsquelch1 whats that???
cataracta moana Ayn Rand wrote the book "Atlas Shrugged", and D'Anconia Copper is a business one of the protagonists owns. Let's just say Ayn Rand's books have a very heavy handed, and very controversial, political message. Normally any mention of her name on the internet is enough to start a flame war.
+Fakjbf oh okay I'm gonna look her up thanks
I can't find those patterns anywhere here or on Tested website.
Where can I get one of the Tshirts Ed is wearing???
Great job, Frank! Been watching you since Face-Off. So, I see No-Face on your shirt, but who else is on there? I couldn't get a close enough look at it. Watched it a couple of times at the end...
how do i get the materials to do something like this? i am interested in cosplay design but don't know where to start.
You are awesome, I learned a lot from your videos
Perhaps I'm just an idiot and have missed it, but where are these templates? I REALLY like that samurai mask....
i know right, i want to buy one of these cosplays
hi guys. i was hoping to find your helmet template from evil tedd? really want to make the samurai thanks
Scott Day I did my own templates of it for free on my channel!
So whatever happened to those patterns you mentioned?
What happened with the patterns? did they release them?
I never found them on the website. I dug through forums until I got fed up, but I didn't see them at all. I assume they're behind the Premium pay wall.
Leonardo Hernández it's on Evil Ted Smith's website for $5 per set.they are A4 pdf files. After you make your payment, the download link is with your receipt.
Made my own on my channel for free!
I'm exited for the pattern thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What Gundam kit is in the background on the shelf?
Why didn't the samurai guy wear the face mask at e3?
Truly amazing
Very nice! shame about the Viking having horns tho.
Fantasy game.
The fans expect viking helmets to have horns.
No we don't, we expect something with some historical accuracy which if you look at the knight and samurai they are pretty damn good.
It's a Fantasy Game.
Bro just get over it stereotypically the Viking have horns
what resin did he use for the lower face mask?
A samurai wearing crocs xD
can somebody link to the templates, looked on Tested but couldn’t find them :/
Armour*
*Armor
+Zapíkovo něco armour*
English vs American spellings.
who gives a fuck*
*Armour and Armor. Both are right.
Was he saying "rip out of" or "riff out of"?
laminated bamboo in fishbone patern that is what samurai armor used to be made out of sewed on fabric
Anyone see the Cabal helmet on the shelf?
Adam can you make a fus ro da machine? Something like a powerfull airgun that you put in your hands
Where do you find the helmet template
very nice job
Why is there horns on the viking helmet?.....
Agree that's not historically accurate but maybe the customer insisted.
Because it's a Fantasy game. Says Fantasy in the title
***** Based off of historical figures.
"Based" being the operative word.
***** Really? Which historical Figures? I don't remember some giant apocalypse happening that Caused European, Norse and Japanese warrior fighting for 1000 years. there's already been shown to be magic, It's FANTASY, get over it.
