How to Get Rid of Cat Pee Smell (This is the ONLY method that works!)

  • Removing cat urine odor starts with choosing a product that works. In our experience, that means an enzymatic cleaner or ion-based odor eliminator. All of the alternatives-including oxidizing cleaners, surfactants, and baking soda-based homemade cleaners-don't eliminate the entire problem and leave you with recurring smells.
In this video, you'll learn how to choose the right urine removers, identify urine stains using a UV flashlight, and safely eradicate odors.

Our cat lives outside. She kinda came with the house when we bought it. She was laying on the front porch as we were moving in. I shoo'd her away several times. She kept coming back. Finally I decided to get her some bowls and feed her. She's a good girl. Bought her a heated cat house for last winter. She seemed to really like it, but I caught other cats in there many times and I think they peed in it a lot because it smells awful and I always saw her pee in the yard.
Spring and summer came so she slept elsewhere, no problem, now it's getting cold at night again and I don't want to have to buy a new cat house because that one smells and she doesn't like going in there anymore, so this might be just the ticket to clean it up.
I tried using bleach to clean the heating pad, and washed the cover, a few months back, but it seemed to do very little to combat the smell.

Great video. Thanks for explaining what’s in cat urine and why enzymatic cleaners are best option. I agree!!! Nothing else works like the enzyme cleaner. My cat has crystals in his bladder so that’s why he has been peeing outside his litter box. Please take your cat in if he’s doing this! It’s more common in male cats. Feed wet food. Only water with filtered or distilled water. Tap water has too much build up in it.

Best actual personal review I've ever seen!! Thank you. Having been down the road for 50 years... let me advise... go straight for the Live Pee Free ya all. Even if it's a small bottle. Once you use it you'll see that couches mattresses, clothes, and flooring cost more to replace than this stuff does to eliminate the odor. All enzymatic cleaners have a short shelf life... you never know how long it's been sitting there. Too many have just as bad a smell as the urine itself... and when it doesn't work, the smells combined are nauseating!! I just ordered $500 worth of LPF and I don't regret a penny. I can't afford to replace $1000's worth of furniture and cat beds/toys... I'm so glad I found this video I just knew there had to be something else out there ... thank you for your sharing! If your cat isn't using the litter box then there's a problem your cat is trying to tell you. It could be stress in the household, too many cats, not enough boxes, a dirty box, bad box location, too much activity in the house or other causes that can cause a cat stress. Another very common issue with cats is UTI. Too much dry food can cause urinary issues. It hurts to pee, so cats look for other locations to go pee. This is an infection and should be seen by a vet, once the issue is resolved please make sure to give your cat a high protein, meat based, wet food.

    • @TheSathandra
      @TheSathandra 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@marinajade8519 Yes, First check to see if it is an UTI. It hurts to pee, They associate the litter box with pain, most likely the most common cause for peeing outside the box. Dry food is the leading cause for urinary infections, after the vet check, make sure to put your cat on a mainly wet food diet. Avoid any with meat BY product/food coloring's, to AVOID some of the most toxic foods on the market. High meat protein is a requirement for good health. Some brands you could look for, Pride, Primal, Stella and Chewy, Poke Bowl, Instinct, Weruva, Taste of the Wild, Fresh pet select, Acana/Orijen, Mature Health - Home Again, Honest Kitchen, NomNom, Ziwi to name a few, if you're on a low budget, you can also feed a better diet every other day/week in addition of their regular food, though brands like Meow Mix, 9Lives, Friskies, Iams, and store brands should be avoided at all cost. If you have a cat that has chronic UTI, ask your vet about D.MANNOS. If it's not a UTI then it could be something in the home causing stress, from your bf or roommate, to scented candles, household cleaners, or the lack of safe spots - cats like to go high up, so tall cat towers, wall shelves, or cozy hiding spot's are some things one can look into to make a cat feel more secure.
When switching a cats food - DO it Gradually - as switching to suddenly can make them feel ill (digestive issues, adding probiotics can help - Dr Mercola Pets, Fortiflora). Take some of the new food, and add it to their regular meal and increase dosage over time. Feeding a variety of brands/flavors can help overall health. One can make homemade meals BUT it requires thorough research to make sure all nutrients requirements are met

    1. Does ANY blacklight work? Or does it need to meet certain strength criteria to be effective for finding pee on some surfaces?
(Essentially, can you go for the cheapest one you can find or are there some benefits to invest in something which is more high quality?)
    2. Which places might one go to look for these two types of cleaner products? Do they sell these at pet stores?

On the chemistry side, uric acid is actually water soluble although on
the low side. It's solubility increases in hot water but of course can
spread it around and if not sufficiently flushed can create the
potential for re-crystalisation over a wider area although in a more
diluted form. Just saying because in chemistry accuracy of information
    is essential.
I have a massive problem with around 5 local cats pissing and shitting in our garden, I'd really prefer a cat eliminator bu as it stands I'd rather get the smell gone then concentrate on the cats. This right to roam/shit/piss rule needs to be looked at and make owners responsible for their animals.

Can I put either of these in my carpet shampooer so I can clean a larger area? Or treat the smaller areas with this and then some other cleaning solution in the machine? Do you have a suggestion for machine solution? Timeframe between spot cleaning and carpet cleaning? Thanks

Enzyme cleaner: Contains enzyme and bacteria that break down the Uris acid crystals. Example product: Mr. max’s anti icky poo. Don’t pretreat with any other cleaners first. Soak the area.
Ion based odor eliminator: one of the fastest ways to remove odor. Product suggestion: “Live per free” this is odor free. 20% off with link in the video description.
Invest black light to identify where exactly the stain is. It will also help to verify that everything is gone after cleaning.

Hey there, sorry I missed your comment. Your experience sounds extremely frustrating. Have you had any success removing the urine odors over the past few weeks? A couch is a difficult place to remove urine odors from, since the urine sinks into the fabric and into the fibers within. If you haven't tried this yet, try injecting an enzyme urine remover deep into the couch with an injection kit like these: www.amazon.com/SCOE-10X-Upholstery-Mattresses-Odor-Causing/dp/B07FTWVH4F/
      www.amazon.com/Inject-N-Clean-Tool-Injection-Bottle/dp/B01HUDR9VW/
I hope this helps, and let me know if you have any more questions.

I would get a spot cleaner with an extended hose. Heres what to do.
      1. Get natures miracle URINE remover, febreeze, dawn dish soap 4x platinum, oxy pure arm and hammer laundry detergent.
      2. Fill the spot cleaner with COLD water. (Little known fact cold water is always what you want when cleaning cat pee FIRST.)
CLEAN with COLD water first on pee spot. Just cold water.
      3. Use dawn 4x platinum dish soap for second cleaning. Use luke warm water in spot buster.
      4. Use oxy pure for this run. Warm water in spot buster.
      5. Pour natures miracle directly on pee spot generously and LET AIR DRY.
      6. After air dry hit with arm and hammer laundry detergent with HOT water in spot cleaner. Let air dry.
      7. Hit with febreeze as directed. Let air dry and hit again with natures miracle.
This is a long process I know but it does typically work. Cat piss is a SOB to get rid of.

So with the enzyme cleaner you had said the bacteria dies after sitting around not used. Why have that huge bottle then? It's so expensive but if it'll just go bad whats the point. I guess the big jug would be meant for a cat who pees alot? In my case, my cat has a problem with peeing in the box & he either steps in it or it splashes him or he pees on himself. He then walks around with his pee paws. Even that is sooo stinky & clings to everything. But it doesnt happen often is my point. How long would you say that bottle can sit un used before going bad? I should probably get the little spray bottle.

I think your chemistry may be a little flawed. Grease is also insoluble in water but regular Dawn dishwashing liquid cleans it just fine, and my understanding is it's just surfactants not enzymes. I've tried all kinds of oxy cleaners, vinegar, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, etc. Nothing worked. I finally found a product called Kids n Pets, an enzyme cleaner. It worked good but when I went back to HD to buy the gallon bottle, they didn't have it anymore. So I got Urine Destroyer carpet steaming product, which is a surfactant-based cleaner and it seems to work fine too especially if I run a hot water and vinegar rinse over it after it dries. I did a little research on the active ingredient and found it is derived from coconut which is of course oily, and the ingredient itself has degreasing properties. If you know more about this than my brief research has shown, I would love you to share.

No, you don't, it's actually best not to apply any other cleaning products before the enzymes since they could render the enzymes ineffective. Just blot up the stain as well as you can, and then apply the enzymes as indicated on the bottle. Hope this helped and let me know if you have any more questions!
