    Chris, I applaud you for the restraint you held while doing these pieces to allow them to be stunning in their simplicity. They are simply beautiful and your tutorials are very well done. Thank you for sharing your gifts and talents.

    So many people ask the same questions over and over! If people would take the time to read all the comments before asking questions, their questions would be answered before they bother Chris over and over. 😱

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😄 I actually don’t mind. In this day and age when people are using different devices and apps to view the videos, the comments are sometimes quite difficult to read and I suppose I also use the comments/questions to give me an idea of what sort of information I need to include. I am deliberately low tech and these are just me doing my thing and gasbagging while I work. I don’t really have a plan of including every little snippet of information. There are a ton of videos where people are teaching as their profession and the viewer quite rightly so wants to get value for their time. I am just happy that people find mine interestingly enough to watch long enough to have questions. 😋

    Great work CHRIS. I wish you would pop on a little mask when you open those jars of pigment. It really gets airborne. I used to do icon painting and was extremely careful and one night my nose started dripping blood on my piece. It freaked me out so I quit doing it. I was working much closer to your my work but still better to be safe..I really appreciate all your videos, you're a great teacher, thanks!

    Thank you so much for your videos. I learn from each one 🤗. As soon as it's get warmer here in Germany I will try the first painting with resin.
    Where do you buy the Mica powders? Maybe there is a seller who delivers to Germany? 🤗

      My apologies I missed your question. I buy most of them from Ebay. (China). They deliver worldwide but you can also get some branded powders from local nail salons and art supply stores.

    Hi Chris: I watched another resin artist sand between layers of resin. I am not sure if this would enable you to put on a thicker layer of resin. ( maybe you don't want to) Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful art techniques!

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The layers are quite thin by the time I blow them with the hairdryer. The white was fun to try but I think I prefer the black where I can work directly on the primed canvas.

    Why do you put the drops of alcohol in the colored resin? Great video.

  • @dorothymiller3367

    Love your videos! Very informative and interesting to watch. I was wondering if you had tried using resin on tiles painted with alcohol inks? I want to make a wall of them in the fireplace but all the finishing clear sprays that I have tried will rub off. They are just going to be decorative but I will need to clean them. If I could keep the paint stable enough to put resin on, it would be the perfect answer. I realise that this is nothing to do with your style of painting but I thought you may have dabbled in it.

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I started with alcohol inks. You do get some interesting issues though. Resin absorbs your ink so you need to seal and cure properly before you resin. I was never able to get purples or reds to hold their colours......... No matter what resin I used and then lastly your Alcohol inks will fade over time.

      Kevin thank you. I originally bought them from a local nail salon but ebay and amazon has a great selection. Often I would search for a particular colour that I could only get from art stores or candle making supply stores.

    You have such a peaceful vibe. I am inspired by your work. Thank u for sharing with all of us. Question...My resin art piece has dried and I c some blank places. Any way to fix without placing whole new layer of resin on? Also, why do you do a line of clear resin before stripe of color? Why not fill in all clear before you add color? Please post more videos soon. They are fantastic!

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you I am enjoying this side of me. Re the spaces. Firstly I generally fix after the rest has stopped moving but before it has set. Having said that, It depends on how you feel you can leave them as part of the texture of the piece. You can infill with some clear/coloured or pour a thin coat over the whole thing and let it settle in the spaces.

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      On the line of clear. One thing I learned very early was that the mica spreads so fast you loose the definition if you pour into a total clear layer, you can see this on the outer edges. It moves and spreads much faster and further. By laying the line down and pouring the mica into it I can contain the shape that I want when I use the hairdryer. Then when I am happy with that, I infill.

    What do you do with the hardened drips left along the sides of the canvas when dried?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      On these canvases I have used blue painters tape to mask the bottom. I remove this the next morning when the piece is dry enough to handle but before it cures super hard.

    Wonderful artwork, Chris! I have been dabbling with resin....it takes a very long time for my resin plus mica pigments to move. Do you have any suggestions? I am using ArtResin and well within the time limit. Might my hairdryer not be hot enough? Love your videos....watch them multiple Times!

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I am working with mica I don’t really want them to move a lot because the mica spreads into a blur. Having said that it did take a couple of different hairdryers to find one that had the right settings. If its not moving make sure you are heating up the resin around it. If that resin is too cool then the warm resin has nowhere to go

      The first lot of mica i bought from a local nail salon and then most of them from ebay. Colorperk. Have a quick google for mica pigments for soap or candle making, or nail/makeup. There are different types. Pearl is shimmery up to flash which is glitter flakes.

    when you pour over the 1st layer of white can't you sand it so the other layer won't slip ?

      Yes you can. Do some small test mixes before your main piece to make sure your paints give you the result you are after.

    Chris what is the purpose of the alcohol in the colours?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just thins the mixture down a little bit. Its the different densities of your mixes that create the lovely effects.

  • @annietremblay7236
    @annietremblay7236 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @crisscross104

      I buy the mica from the chinese stores on ebay. colourperk or like. You can buy from art stors or even nail salons but its more expensive.

    what does the Alcohol do for the resin, paint?

    • @crisscross104
      @crisscross104  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The alcohol thins the mix down a little bit and the different resin densities create the lacing you see.
