- Alcoholism is an illness that claims so many people. Treatment centers and detoxes can only do so much to try to combat this cunning, baffling, and powerful problem. However, the Twelve Steps, and the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous have been successful since 1935. If you are questioning AA's effectiveness or if it works, please do yourself a favor and listen to this share by Ralph from California. It is so uplifting and incredible. He has such a fluid and smooth style of speaking, it makes it incredibly easy to listen to. This is one of the best AA speaker tapes out there! Addiction treatment WORKS! The Twelve Step Model has been utilized as a treatment for alcohol abuse and alcoholism since 1935. For my money, Ralph is the best. For the first 5 minutes at The Rock I thought this little black man from L.A. ain't got nothing I need or want. See, I've got a wonderful sponsor named Paul from Creston, Iowa, Puerto Rico, Richmond, and Atlanta. I don't need this lame dude. About 15 minutes in, naw... about 7 minutes, Ralph had me, and his words, just like Paul's words ring in my head and in my heart again and again. Any moment that the light grows dim, I think of the men and women of Alcoholics Anonymous hits me at the speed of thought, and I am okay. Life is okay. No obstacle is something which makes me tremble; I haven't trembled in a long time - for me it's been 4,712 days, one day at a time since the last time I became thirsty. I've had vicious bottoms in sobriety but never did I think for a long minute that I cannot handle this. That what this deal has meant to me. The light has never burned brighter. That's just what it has meant to me, and a few million others just like me, and Ralph W from South Central L.A. - Watts.
