Running in only her second 10,000m race, Sifan Hassan repels all opposition to land her maiden world outdoor title.
The Dutch distance runner, who earlier in 2019 set a world mile record, gave another demonstration of her astonishing versatility to destroy the brave Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey with a 61-second final lap to strike gold in a Dutch record 30:17.33.
Behind, Gidey delighted the vibrant and vociferous Ethiopian fans inside the Khalifa International Stadium to take a richly deserved silver having launched a brave winning bid for gold with four laps to go.
Agnes Tirop claimed a second successive world bronze as the podium dwellers all claimed personal best performances.

Bronze medal Agnes Tirop murdered today! Please honor the soul

Tears in my ears as I watch this, the way she responded to chase after Gidey, that memory will live forever in our hearts.
Hassan looks over her shoulder and accelerates more and more and runs away. Beautiful race.
I loved it when Hassan finished the race and lifted her hands up saying Alhamdulillah.
Hassan is one of the greatest to ever do it. She gives praises to her Creator because she has nothing more to prove. Anything else she achieves in her career is just extra.

It’s so nice to watch the full race with no cutting out to watch other events. Brilliant racing by Hassan and Gidey.
It did skip some minutes but at least it didn’t go to watch field events

absolutely true and i thought GIDEY a beautifull runner of ETOPHIA will gonna make it for her constant positioning and breathing style, however SOMEONE put WIND BENEATH MY WINGS to HASSAN and i surmised she is not expected to win this event
a blistering pace by the lady German runner even the favourites to win are lured in a trap, GIDEY form is better than HASSAN for me. it check Google they were compatriot by birth

Stunning run from Gidey but Hassan is monumental; she’s a once-a-decade type athlete.
5k 10k 1500m never been done shes so fast so strong likely got a 1.55 800m in her too

@@1man1bike1road I think that she was in sub 1:56 shape when she ran that 3:51 1500. And what's more, she's the European Record Holder in the half marathon. She should be able to run a killer marathon by 2024, when she will most likely transition.
Now in July 2022, at the World Championships, Gidey avenges her 2nd place finish from 2019 World's and her 3rd place finish from Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021 due to COVID-19) to win the 10,000m race. CONGRATS to GIDEY on your GOLD MEDAL AT THE 2022 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS where Hassan came in 4th place. Great effort from all the ladies.

This was a great competition, young Gidey put all in, but Hassan was stronger in the end. What a fantastic performance from both of them !!!!!

I love how she it makes appears so effortless. Only the two final laps to we see any visible strain. She is an awesome talent. Keep your eye on her!
Ironically, I first noticed Hassan years earlier because of her strange arm movement; as though something was wrong with her arms earlier in life. That was when she used to come in third and fourth. Although she ran for the Netherlands her features told me she was Ethiopian or at least from the Horn of Africa. So I looked her up and have been following her since. It's rewarding to see her rise to the top. She just need to stop running at the back in the first lap. She has too much stamina for that.

Wonderful to watch the entire run. I came here searching for Hassan but what a race this was! The stamina, the intent, the sportsmanship! Wow! I just loved the commentary, kept me engrossed as if I was in the stadium.

I love obiri, hassan and gidey but i need to confess that the running form of gidey is so smooth as a deer Bambi. Also she has even power und speed. I never thought that she passes obiri so easily.
Obiri hasn't been in form for some time. She still got the 5000 m anyway.

As a Dutch person I am so proud of Sifan Hassan, but I do believe that we should slice this medal in half and share it with Ethiopia 🇧🇴❤ No person with Dutch dna could ever run like this haha
Ethiopia won that. Not Holland. Switching side doesn't really mean The Netherlands won
@@ScammedByJamesLClark I understand the sentiment as much as anyone, but she is representing her country she competes for. Not Ethiopia where she fled very young, but the country she names home. Her medals, with pride, go to the Netherlands. She's a wonderful lady and friend, too.

I love the humility in Hassan - no pushing people over or bossing about anybody (it's your running that talks). In a race there are loads of things at play that an uninformed spectator might not see- just listen to some of the commentators - you cannot not wonder their bases. Hassan's style is good and she is such a strong finisher.
3,59" last 1500m for Siffan Hassan, performance never seen in the 10k race
With that time she would have gotten 9th or 10th in the 1500m final after running 8.5km

@@yendis902 Hassan ran that fast is because Gidey amped it up with 1500 left.
Now of course Hassan could have done it by herself but I don't think that was her gameplan since it was a 10000 race.
I think initially the plan was out kick Obiri if it came to the final 400 and they were close.
But Gidey changed that.
From the look of it Gidey's plan was run away from Hassan and Obiri to where they could not use their final kick. They plan worked well but Hassan was just on another level.
She was initially dropped but slowly worked her way back and took over with 450 left.
The top finishers were wearing track spike version of Nike Vaporfly. It feels like cheating to be honest.
Wow what a race these woman are all champions Sifan Hassan by far is the greatest runner I've ever seen no one compares she is like the wind nobody's touching her.

I have been watching our neighbor Ethiopian runners for more than 20 years. I have never seen anyone run for Ethiopia with that form like Gidey and the lady is gorgeous too. 😂😂😂

Unusually high-quality video - great work of cameras - high resolution, shot of all competitors, far-sighted and nice commentators, great Hassan! And Letesenbet, she is so beautiful that one's heart is pounding! Krumins, Hassan and Gidey were completely at the end of the first half of the race. How foxed! Krumins then brought in a white field of racers.
Gidey's move with 1500 left was perfect.
Just Hassan was on another level making up ground.
Gidey knew she had to do that to try to drop the competition. If she would have tried that move with 1100 or 700 meters left then Obiri and Tirop probably could have stayed with her.
Hassan who was initially drop due to her responding late probably still would had caught up. It just would have been a closer finish
Both Hassan & Gidey are great. Hassan is younger and her future

That was a beautiful and intense race to watch. Perfect camera coverage.
Hassan has been improving gradually over the years and in 2019 she's in peak condition. I always had the impression she had more stamina than any of the ladies but her running tactics often failed her before. She hasn't the fastest kick at the end of a race but with her stamina, she could run the final 800m at a high rate that the others can't follow. From 2018 onward she seem to capitalize on this strength; running the last two laps at a high pace and wear the others down. Whether 10o or 1500m they cannot stay with her at that speed for the last two laps. Way to go. She may be running for Netherlands but she's Ethiopian; Oromo to be precise. (She outclassed Gidey but most of the posts are all about Giday. I wonder why.)
This isn’t exactly true, Hassan’s probably the fastest athlete in the world over the last 800 in the 5000 and 10,000 it’s only in the 1500 she sets an incredible pace that the others can’t keep up with cause they’re faster than her, in the 5k and 10k she stays at the back and moves up slowly if the pace is slow or goes to the front as soon as possible and wait for her chance to kick if the pace is fast, she only runs full throttle when she’s going after a WR

That was some really savage running from Gidey. She made everybody work for it
Great respect to all the great ladies in this race, I mean, 10kms in less than 32 mins is insane. That’s super human. The avg person training for a year won’t get anywhere near 32mins.
