Peter Brock was an absolute legend in the sport. I had the privilege of meeting him in the late 90s when he visited the local Mobil Service (gas) station as they were his major sponsor then. I was barely able to say hello as I was completely starstruck as a teenager, but he spent a good 10 minutes chatting to my mum and stepfather - and he was as natural chatting there as wlhe was behind the wheel of his Commodore. Greatly missed. RIP Brocky

The 1979 Bathurst 1000 ranks among Brock's greatest wins. He started from pole position, led every lap, fastest lap on the final lap of the race, and won by six laps. The most dominant performance in Mount Panorama history.

It was funny to hear you talking about how it was great to see cars built especially for racing as opposed to cars today just looking like road cars with some stickers. These things were legit road cars, anything back then had to be homologated (which meant at least 500 road versions of them had to be sold to the public) with the only real changes being made were the addition of roll cage, removing seats/internals.
If you look up LX Toranas (SLR 5000 or A9X) or XB/XC Falcon fastbacks that are still being driven on the roads today they will look pretty much the same as in this race including things like alloy droptanks and flared guards

Peter Brock won a total of 37 races during his Australian Touring Car/V8 Supercar Championships career, 9 of those wins were at the Bathurst 1000; he also won the Sandown 500 nine times, the Australian Touring Car Championship three times along with the Bathurst 24 Hour Endurance once. He was inducted into the V8 Supercars Hall of Fame in 2001.

His pit crew took a couple of hours to repair the vehicle and Peter got back in and continued the race in last place knowing he could not lap any other vehicle that did not stop. 3. 10:50 Zach Back then yes you had to balance performance against the ability to finish. Part of what makes this 79 race special this was the first time a car went flat out all day.

It was a couple years after this race, I think, that you got to see why Chrysler Valiant Chargers lost its final chance in a race that they had no way to lose.
It is in the Brock special DVD, at the half way pit stop that you see the Charger roar into the pits. There is a great picture from a camera looking down the length of the pits. The Valiants were right down the back.
Management skimped and refused to pay for rattle guns for the pit crew. They were forced to use a cross brace with a steering wheel welded to it to remove the wheel nuts to replace the brakes.
The mighty E49 had a massive fuel tank and they planned to stop only once the whole race, they were in 3rd place I think.
The nuts came off and immediately cooled and shrunk while the studs remained red hot. As they went to put the wheels back on the small cold nuts wouldn't fit onto the hot swollen studs.
You can actually see the pit crew crack it and one worker threw his cross brace across the pits in fury and temper. You then get to watch him slowly trudge off after and retrieve it.
The crew had to wait till the studs cooled down enough to get the nuts back on. If they had rattle guns they could of just forced the nuts on and continued the race without the wait.
With half the race over the Charger took back off again and had to work their way from last all the way back up. They managed to get all the way back to 4th place by the end of the race.
It caused them to fail Bathurst and the company collapsed soon after since people lost interest in a brand that couldn't win despite having the race handed to them on a silver platter.
There was just no way they should of lost that race.

Guys . The 1979 race won by Brock was at a period of total dominance of the magnificent A9X Torana . Even though it gives away over 50 cubic inches of engine size to the 351 Cleveland powered Fords … Brock simply demolished the field …with lots of other A9X’s . He led every lap of the race and won by six laps . That’s about 13 or 14 laps . In a moment that just proved how good the Holden was he set an all time lap record on the last lap . Yep in a race that goes 161 laps of the mountain ..leading by an incredible margin … he pulled out all the stops . Most drivers would just nurse it home . Not Brock . The A9X was such a better car than the L34 ( which are the parts bins in the factory that built them ) .

Brock is called the King of the Mountain as he has won the Bathurst 1000 9 times.
Now if you win the Bathurst 1000 you win the Peter Brock trophy 🏆.
This race is 161 laps (6 hours) of the most demanding race tracks in the world, you are in a constant battle with other drivers, stresses on your body, mind and concentration, car fatigue and the elements.
Today's car's computers are sending constant data so you can tell what's wrong with car.

Peter Brock won at Bathurst 9 times or technically 10 times if you count his win in the Bathurst 24hr from 2003.

How different does the track look now with Concrete walls around the mountain & And just about everywhere else now. It was scary watching cars crash on top of the mountain with a very long drop on one side.

hey guys yes it's true Peter Brock was given the nickname the king of the mountain. Peter won a total of 9 Bathurst races which is still yet to be surpast and I do not see anyone yet that looks good enough to beat 9. Brock was the go to for Holden drivers as he new the track like the back of his hand for the mountain he was is and always will be the best driver to ever win the Bathurst race. And a long with him his racing number became legendary to his racing number being 05. Not number 5 his number is how it reads 05.

    • @brookfredericks1984
      @brookfredericks1984 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The 05 number was a part of the anti drink-driving campaign. The 0.05 alcohol limit was tied in with Brocks racing number. Other drivers have raced in the touring car/ supercar series using just the number 5. The 05 was, and always will be, Brocky's trademark.

Its about saving your car to the end being the fastest car in the first half and breaking down is what happens to a lot of young drivers so you be quick but don't flog your car till near the end jack Brabham was not the fastest but he looked after his car amd most broke down and he won the formula one season by finishing more races

You boys have a backwards the race cars these days look like race cars it used to be called Turing cars for a reason Peter Brock's Torana an older cars you see on the track are not race vehicles they are just painted the idea of it was the car that won you could go to the dealership and buy one or you didn't hear that at the start when he said the Peter Brock Holden Torana manufacturer team💀💀💀

Peter broke was a cheat. He would tell his team mates that were winning to slow down so he could over take them so he could win! And if his car failed He would take a teammates car and continue on to win! This is cheating and he was allowed to get away with it! So he is not a legend he is a cheat. Oh and he would get his team mates to take out other teams if they were winning so he could win and his team mates would cop the palettes. Peter broke was not a good person. I tried to talk to him when I was young and he told me to piss off. But dick Johnson is a great person he will always stop and chat to anyone. Just I look into the past of all of these racers. And you will see who are cheats and who are good guys.
