Course on the Waves

In June 16-23, 2012 in the Masuria Lake District in Poland the team of students and young graduates from twelve countries of Europe took part in an unusual Sailing Leadership Training Project "Course on the Waves" . The project was organized by ChSA. It was a great time of learning, growing and amazing adventure.
We would like, in few short words, to share with you our experiences and the outcome of the training.
The aims of the project was character and leadership skills development, including team building experience in the international context. The whole group had lived on three sailing boats. Fully participative and innovative learning experience had enabled the participants to discover new insights and exercise new skills of the art of leadership. During this week of sailing, we had been studying the life of David, Old Testament leader and "man after God's own heart" (Acts 13:22) as well as taking professional leader's profile / personality type tests. The workshops were led by Mirek Pieszka, IFES Europe Associate Regional Secretary, who was the program coordinator.
Sailing turned out to be excellent and unconventional tool in shaping the characters and braking the barriers, including those intercultural.
Participants from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary had been developing their skills under the guidance of qualified instructors, who have a great experience in both sailing and shaping the leaders. International crew made a team of people who were able to rely and trust each other.
