Love the French and this is exactly what I was looking to do to mine. Mine is stuck on defrost and I need feet and defrost and your "hack" way is exactly what I want. So to you good sir I say if it works it it ain't stupid!! Thank bro!!!
Chuck you are the man! My zj's mode door went out last week and i have looked all over the internet for info on these junky ATC systems only to find endless dead end posts about vacuum lines and the dang blend door motor. I really appreciate your help.
I'm glad I could help. I had the same problem, looking up "mode door" got me nothing but the vacuum system or the blend door. And I'm still not completely happy with my fix, it really takes two levers to get all the modes working so the floor vents don't really open, but at least I have defrost and dash vents, which are the most important to me where I live. I shouldn't complain too much, the system worked fine for 25 years, I just wish it was easier to repair.
finally someone talking about the proper motor, blend door only changes from heating and cooling, mode door changes air directions in the vehicle. my mode door likes to change to whatever position it feels like, which is almost never the dash vents but instead goes straight to defrost or floor vents. it's super annoying.
Yours is doing the same thing mine was, floor or defrost and never the vents. And like you I was super frustrated, whenever I asked for help every said it was either a vacuum leak or they pointed me to the wrong motor. I really wish I could have fixed it properly, but without replacement parts available there was no reason to pull the dash and heater box.
Thanks to your video i was able to get my wife to understand spending 1k+ on a new ac system would not fix this problem. Thank you.
Any day I can help a fellow sufferer of the institution of marriage is a good day!
I have a 95, but it looks like I have the same components. I was afraid to force it to move, but now I will bust out the channel locks.
"Pull out the motor and trans and cut a hole in the floor"lol🤣.. thank you for the intel and the laughs
Just be aware that you may be breaking something that might not be easily replaceable. I felt under pressure as I had to have the air coming out of the vents before summer. As far as "pulling the motor and trans and cutting a hole in the floor", I did say it in jest, but considering my size and how inflexible I am, that might be easier for me then actually pulling the entire interior apart. People ask me why I love my old CJ-7, that's a big reason right there. Thanks for watching and good luck with your Jeep!
Thanks for the help sir! I will be installing a wire lever as well. Appreciate it 🤝
Glad I could help!
Hello, I am riding Cherokee ZJ 5.2 in Korea. I have been struggling for a year because of a problem with my car. Have you ever experienced the same symptoms as me? My symptoms are as below.
1. The engine does not start. (Step on the accelerator, catch it, release it and turn it off.)
2. If the heat is increased to a certain extent, RPM will be maintained
3. If you step on and off the accelerator, the RPM may drop a lot and the engine may turn off.
The parts I repaired are as follows.
ignition cable, ignition plug, crank angle sensor, air flow sensor, map sensor, oil pressure sensor, throttle position sensor, IAC valve, throttle body gasket, intake air temperature sensor, oxygen sensor, fuel filter, purge valve, battery
Help me.. I'm under so much stress. Thank you for reading the long scraps and always be happy!
Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and make sure the fuel pressure isn't dropping below spec. If that's Ok, and considering everything you've already replaced, about the only thing left I can think of trying is a known good PCM. I had mine fail a few years ago and replaced it with a remanned unit. Good luck!
Thank you very much! I'm worried that it's a problem inside the engine. Is the Cherokee ZJ 5.2 durable?
@@ddf232-d2sdid you figure it out?
Me fue de mucha ayuda el video. Gracias desde Argentina.
I hate blend door motors also and I am a small man. I have a 99 Pontiac Montana I need to replace one on. Not looking forward to it.
I feel your pain...literally. I'm a big, old guy myself and I refuse to even attempt a project that requires me to bend and contort into small, awkward places.
At 6'4" I sucked at doing under dash work as a young guy, at 66 it's getting to the point that I just can't do it any more. And I have mixed feelings about it, to be honest. Thanks for watching!
Love your French lol - I’m going to do the same wire technique, thanks
Thanks Chuck! Great video that I learned from. My auto climate control will work for 2-3min then no display or operation after it fades out. I may reflow some solder joints and see what happens. To be a 95, it has major electric controls!!....smh. thanks again
I honestly wished I could have fixed it right, but even if I had have torn it all apart to get the failed motor out there was no replacement available, I would have either had to fabricate a new control board and motor, or put a used on in. I still intend to reflow my information center, but I haven't gotten around to it yet, and now that it's 115 degrees in the afternoon, that ain't happening until summer is over.
@3rdpig i reflowed my VIC , the terminals where the plug connects to. It's been working ever since. I tried the solder connections on ATC with no luck so I guess I will purchase a used one. I noticed there are at least 2 if not 3 different models numbers for the ATC unit....Hopefully they just changed the #'s each year or something?
