i like how in the final picture everybody is happy and peaceful while they don't know that their next threat is literally plotting right underneath them
In a way, this is a bad ending. Think of it like this, this was a battle between two whole races fighting for their own space for their own survival. No matter the outcome, one has to fall. The Shroobs simply wanted another home when their own was not satisfactory. However, they lost, and their race is now exterminated. This theme is meant to encapsulate the tragedy of this adventure. This is why I love this credits theme over all others in the series because instead of being a simple summary of the places you've been to or just being a happy ending, this theme knows what it is trying to represent. A tragedy.
Thats a Good point, but The shroobs are on one level somehow evil, an enemy. They started a fight, mario and luigi ended it. Also bowser keept some of them (even princesse shroob and a bunch of diffrent types of shroobs) in a freezer
@@uranus007 that's not how it works, the present wasn't affected by the shroobs invading the past because mario and luigi defeated them at the end of the game, and since the shroobs would have been exterminated what they did wouldn't be present in the present

i already thought up of an idea, bowser either releases them on purpose or accident causing them to use and infect his army and they invade the mushroom kingdom so the mario bros and bowser have to team up to save their home land and if bowser can't be playable why not have peach

You can hear it on later USA copies too. If the black letters on the back of your cartridge say ARMEN0JXX, you have an early copy. If it says ARMEN1JXX, you have a later copy. The back of mine says ARMEN0J22 and it doesn't have the music box tune at the end. Heck, the tune isn't even present in the original's files!

I find this to be the darkest Mario and Luigi Entire (surprising that it's the 2nd game) the end credits fit the nature of the game. It gives off a "We know something else is coming" type of vibe
People always act like this game is dark, But really it's more just a serious game, It still has the Mario and Luigi comedy we expect from ALPHADREAM, But its main story is more along the lines of a thriller, rather than an action game. That's what makes it so good, it takes this serious situation of an alien invasion and still makes a light hearted adventure. This theme represents a more Comedic Army March rather than a horror movie ending. It's a cross between serious and Hysterical. This is what truly makes Partners in Time....Well, Partners in Time.
That is dark. What about Toads getting eaten by trees, and Peach practically getting eaten by Petey Piranha, and the way people turn into purple mushrooms only with a shot?

Yeah same. It's not happy like the other ending themes because it's not necessarily a good ending, just not the bad ending for the mushroom kingdom. I think it's intended to leave you with the awkward/concerning feeling that you were just forced to wipe out a desperate race of beings to save yourselves, but at the same time, you weren't really in the wrong. The first time I got to the ending, the song made me think, "If they at least tried to make peace..."
@@paulblart7378 I seriously doubt the shroobs are capable of any good, we never saw a friendly one, NONE, not even one, I mean, even the little ones would attack you and I know it’s not always good to judge by appearance, but they have predators anatomy, just look at the red eyes, the claws, the fangs, they destroyed their own planet, maybe that’s what they are, a destructive race that enjoys suffering, and to be honest, I don’t think the credits music sounds like this because of them being defeated, but because of all the toads that they killed and/or used as a source of energy
@@ivanm8682 I don't think the shroobs are inherently evil. Desperation can make even good people do insane things, and they were super desperate for a new home. According to the prologue, their planet is "in a dark, dank place shunned by sunlight". I don't think they destroyed their planet, but rather it was just no longer and ideal place to live and natural causes caused it to die. And they look scary to US; I'm sure most people will find any exotic/alien living thing "scary" (and they kinda have to look scary because, y'know, antagonist and such). Overall, I think there are 2 sides to the story, and the staff roll music is supposed to symbolize the question "we've won, but at what cost?" given that many toads died and the kingdom is mostly in ruin. Doesn't it make you wonder what just a LITTLE negotiation could have prevented?

Now, to make a more fair judgment of their species more has to be known about their history, for example, were there any friendly shroobs that were left behind on their planet because they didn’t agree to invade and conquer another territory? Do all of them follow the shroob Princesses like the ones who accompanied them to invade do? That’s another important factor, the leader of a group says a lot about their people, and I think it’s not necessary to explain that both princesses are extremely cunning, sadistic and cruel.

I really don’t like how a lot of people are angry at Mario and Luigi for killing an entire race.... which was trying to kill their own race and use the planet as their new place of survival. You think the bros really had a choice? What are they gonna do, sing a song to the aliens and make them realize the error of their ways?

No, you're right... I think it represents that fact that even though you've prevented the absolute end of the kingdom as you know it, you didn't exactly get a "good" ending either. The damage has already been done. The kingdom's in ruin, countless toads are dead, and you were just forced to eradicate an entire alien with the same goal as you: survive. Things were never meant to end well, it was just a matter of who didn't get the far worse ending. When I first completed this game, the credits made me think: "if only they tried settling things peacefully". Also, the ending isn't completely satisfied since you know for a fact that Fawful's plotting his revenge and will return in the future.

The Mario's didn't really kill off an entire race. Princess Shroob still claimed that the shroobs would still live on even after her death.
