We all have to agree that this is the darkest Mario & Luigi game.
And the best (imo)
I played it when I was young, and yes, I was absolutely terrified by the story...
But I wanted to know the end, so I kept playing.
But the true terror arrived when the Elder princess Shroob got transformed into this horrible monster.
I was like : "Huuuuuuh... WHAT ? IS PEACH OKAY ??? AM I GOING TO BE OK ??? WHY DO I DEAL ONLY 1 DAMAGE POINT TO HER ???"
Moreover I thought that raising ONLY the attack stat was a good idea, so the most powerful attack from her dealt 156 HP to Mario.
And I think i beat her first try even if I remember Baby Luigi holding Luigi and Baby Mario to dodge the circular tentacle sweep.

When I was young I had lots of troubles dealing with the elder princess, it took me almost a year to beat her first form. When I thought I finally beat the game, she started to transform into this horrific tentacle monster and at this moment I started to cry.
I was so involved in the story, and knowing I would never be able to kill her made me feel so scared. This really was the strongest experience I’ve ever had in a video game :’)

when I was 7 I couldn't figure out that god damn cactus ball thing all because I accidentally forgot to save when I got lucky and made it to the final boss...
TheGamingGuy the same thing happened to me I think it was because I would always run from an enemy instead of fighting but I made a new save file and then I beat the game

I love the vocal gibberish Mario and Luigi use in these games when having conversations with themselves or other characters.
Playing this game as a kid felt like playing a horror game, the whole lore is so fucked up for a Mario game
I truly loved this apocalyptic theme and this whole game felt like a real challenge. This hands over my favourite alpha dream game
The 3 final boss parts in a row was so hard but at the same time so fun. One of the best final boss fights of any Mario game

Mixed flowers have a cap damage of 999 and is only one big attack. The items that can due multiple hits unlimited with the Copy Flower being at the top are far more powerful when used right.

i LOVED this game as a kid, and seeing all the bosses that my child self could barely beat, it's a nice feeling.

Lucario Fan Fifth Plot Twist: Luigi had a different father who tried stopping Mario's Shroob father, but then got turned into a Shroob himself, and combined with Mario's father and they turned into the Elder Shrooboid Mega.
54 F Eigth Plot Twist: The First Toad who got poisoned had a son before he died, his son got married to a Toadette who had also been transformed into a Shroob. There kid were two Shroob princesses.
Lucario Fan Ninth Plot Twist: That dream about the fathers was fake, but the dream about Baby Luigi with the Shroobs was *real*

This game had the darkest elements of the M&L series . It’s underrated for sure.
I think it's the darkest of all the mario games cause most of the time you only are dealing with people saying what they're going to do that is terrible, maybe later in other games things get real. However this game is just absolute horror around every corner. Constantly reminded you're in the middle of fighting the apocalypse instead of just trying to prevent it. As a kid I remember the only time I felt safe was in the present. I mean seriously anyone who mutate a happy yoshi into monsters is the equivalent of a puppy killer.

the elder princess shroob theme(the second form) sounds like she really wants to destroy them but also regrets it or wants to put it to an end

For a world ending alien invasion, the present characters sure forgot about it pretty easily. Kylie Koopa almost died and yet in Dream Team she's like "Uh...Don't remember. I guess that probably happened"

This game brought a lot of new ideas to the table, some which were in the later parts of the series. Still, this is without a doubt my second favorite m&l game (my favorite being Bowser's inside story) and also a dark game in terms of story. Definitely a GREAT game.
Man I loved this game! I remembered rage-quitting at the Princess Shroob boss fight due to the fact that the Mario Bros were pretty under-leveled compared to her so I had to restart the whole gameplay just to be on the higher level. Regardless, one of the many things that I love about this game is that its one of the most darkest Mario games in general yet they didn't lose the light-hearted charm that this series is known for.

In the first game yes, in the second game which is this no. He just got her remaining power and since both him and elder princess shroob wanted revenge they worked together with the scroob princess giving boswer her power.
Actually it has been officially clarified that while bowser could say whatever he wanted elder princess shroob would still be controlling his actions. Also, checking an official description of shrowser being possessed

Unfortunately, that's pretty accurate. They remade Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story, but seem to have forgotten this game. Sad, because this is my favorite of the Mario and Luigi series.

Maybe favorite. Objectively, I think BIS is the best. It was the third in the series *I* played. It just has no major problems, and the few problems there are, are likely opiniated.

@@accintus_est_potentia I found PiT great, but I found myself more likely to want to stop playing it compared to BIS. Also, I think the linearity of PiT kinda decreases the experience of it. Story wise, I won't say it's much of a story, buy great events that add up to a good climax.

Partners in Time was released when DS was still new, so Alphadream didn't have enough time to make use of the hardware as Bowser's Inside Story did.

The nostalgia is real...I played this game when it first came out and I was stuck on the mission where u have to fight the hammer Bros.....then I gave up lol

This game probably had my favorite music in the series. Both princess Shroob battle themes, the Bowser boss theme, the boss theme. The Bowser boss theme can be compared to the Popple and Rookie theme, the Princess Shroob themes can be like the Cackletta And Fawful theme
