Saw the video where the leader took a flight from a noob right on the flight line in BAD conditions and told her she'd thank him later. He flew her mission and then he nailed the recovery at the end. Many, many thanks to the men and women doing it for real!
That was so damn cool. Was on the USS America and her pitching decks in the North Atlantic. Respect to Naval Aviation and the people who make it happen...... Thanks again!
Wow, if this vid isn't worth a thumbs up and a subscribe, I don't know what is. Great, great job Dusty, the integration of an excellent show/video on pitching deck (which I've watched 100 times I bet), with the new DCS module, is excellent.
+1 Dusty - Beyond words! WOW the mashup of real USN/Marine pilots chatting about what it's like to survive stormy night carrier missions with DCS recreations of extraordinary nightmare weather conditions is gripping!👍👍 Thanks for posting this!😁 BTW I've finally just recently switched over from X-Plane to DCS and loving it. The shocker for me so far is, compared to DCS flight ops, reality is largely MIA in other flight sims. And the visuals (especially the lighting) in this video are freakin' jaw dropping! Cheers from Thailand and... stay healthy!
@@__Dusty_ LOL I'll get around to the combat aspect of DCS at some point, but as a "civvy" flyer I'm just enjoying learning to fly (and land on the boat) the F/A-18C. Gotta admit the immersion level inside the highly detailed amazingly realistic cockpit looking out at the gorgeous ocean and seeing the hustling deck crew on the Teddy R. is awesome. Now if I could only get Maverick out of my head saying, _"Goose, you're a little low. C'mon buddy pull up, you're too low!"_ while I'm struggling in the groove it would be fantastic! Hmmm... maybe I should change my pilot's callsign from _I. Bolter._ Haha! Anyway, the wonderful feeling of being in the cockpit is waaaaay more than I expected in DCS. I'm using a TrackIR (clone) on a 43" 4K monitor and surprisingly, DCS puts X-Plane 11 to shame in the cockpit. Yep, that's saying something as X-Plane is pretty good in that regard. :) BTW, just subscribed to see what magic you come up with next young fella. 👍😁
It's a fascinatingly candid doco. The guy saying that was the CO of VFA-41 and it's clear he wasn't too pleased with the higher ups decision to continue flight ops!
I love that pitching deck series. Nice job! ..side topic- your F-18 DDI's look nice and bright. Do you think the newer version updates are harder to see in the sun..i'e, less bright?
You have the pitch and roll of the deck but there is one other factor the heave of the touchdown point. Not to mention the Burble effect of the wind over the deck.
Great editing. Correct me if I’m wrong though but it seems that - even at these ridiculous wind settings - DCS is not giving you swells and pitch anywhere near what is depicted in the PBS documentary. I’m hopeful that, in the not too distant future (maybe even with the new Marianas map?), DCS will give us the option to set the swell amplitude independent of the local wind settings. I exchanged a message or two about this with Nineline and he was receptive and promised to pass the message on the dev team. You should reach out to him about this as well.
It will be great to be able to set the swell independently of the windspeed but with 40 knot surface winds the deck pitches pretty wildly. Check it out for yourself in the sim!
All you need is a decent amount of wind. I recommend starting at 35knots and crank it up to 50kt as you get the hang of it. Ship set to 5-8knots and turb set to around 20.
I still don't see it moving beyond a fraction of a degree. I see the smaller ships pitching deck which is fun in a helo, but unless I'm completely blind here, I'm not seeing more than half a degree. The pitching deck documentary sound track you used had the system going several degrees each way. I must be going blind, I genuinely don't see you boat pitching
It would have been better if you used "actual" footage instead of CGI. You just can't catch all of the chaos and all of the things that make flight ops what it is. Nice try though.
Great job!
Wonderfully done. I've watched the original many times and this was a great tribute.
Dear Sir, that was absolutely wonderful. Beautiful! Thank you 🙏🏻 Nick

Super vidéo, Thanks
Great job putting this together!!!
Stunning! i feel like this calls for more recreations, although topping this iconic scene might be difficult
That was awesome, watched the original several times and love what y'all did!
What a unique and creative use of DCS. Great idea and nice execution!
Thanks Funken!
Great job with the video, and recreating the PBS show... just watched that last week!
Outstanding! Very good job! "Chicken bone, Chicken bone, Chicken bone"
Documentary blended really well with DCS! Good job! :)
Amazing job dude. Thanks for the great video.
I like the mood this video sets

Bravo Zulu! Simply outstanding job
Nice work. K remember watching the video recently you got the sound track from. Well done ;)
A very well put together video! Great job!
Great “remake”. Thanks.
This is a really cool take on the original pitching decks video, Great work.
Stupendous!
Takes me back to when I worked on the flight deck.
Truly.... Beautiful.
Great video there. Well done!!👍🏿
Incredible! Really impressive
Great production! Well done!
Amazing video
Beautiful! 👍😎
this is incredible
Great video man! :-) o7 wish dcs will have a rewind in replay feature soon :-( making it much easier to make movies.
Great idea and wel done too
Excellent

Thanks Jimbo!! Appreciate your comment, enjoy the sim it's hard to go back to civvy simming once the combat sim bug has bitten!

WOW!
I love how the one guy says "Should we be out here or not, that's not for me to say" and in the very next sentence says that they shouldn't be.
It's a fascinatingly candid doco. The guy saying that was the CO of VFA-41 and it's clear he wasn't too pleased with the higher ups decision to continue flight ops!
That CO is David Fravor, the same who filmed the UFO footage.
Well done.

Plydrms yeah a recent update somewhere has nuked my cockpit lighting in most aircraft. Way too much glare and shadows are borked :(
Wow. Subscribed!
Well done!
Awesome! How’d you manage to get the pitching decks without ridiculous winds?
The winds were still pretty redic. 35-50knots gives good results :)
Glad to be here
Slightly relief but slightly depressing
Pitching deck, yes! Good stuff, and good editing. Subbed!
Thank you!
Great video!!! I’m dying to try this. Would you be so kind to share you weather settings? What’s the wind at? 80?
Nice remake of famous pbs pitching deck movie
What we’re your weather settings at if you don’t mind?
Great video!! Classic how everyone is getting their butts kicked and Sex comes in like a boss on rails!
SOAR1214 EXACTLY!

Yo! That was excellent!
Was that Jello describing the pitching deck? (in the PBS video)
Great video! What are your ME weather settings?
Sure was!
He's flying during the crazy recovery cycle and bolters at least once also.
Amazing!!!
Great vid man :)
What settings in me did u use, want to try this :)

@@__Dusty_ thx 🙂
8:38 Funny to see the wire move to the hook instead of the hook catching the wire...
Otherwise the video is incredible ! Great Job Sir !
Thats the dcs engine for ya
First one to comment here brilliant Video subscribed. Best SC Based video yet well done.
Thanks so much Tom!
I thought it was tutorial for hornet countermeasures but anyway good job!
script quote from the film of national geographics? VF-41.
Curious, are the voice over's from real pilots or just people in DCS world who are acting as real pilots?
It's from the PBS series Carrier.

Isn't one of the pilots talking the same dude who saw those UFO's?
Yep, sure is!
An I the only one who doesn't see the deck pitching? Ed said they will add this later.
You need to set the surface level winds to at least 35 knots and the deck will absolutely pitch.

You can even see the roll at 3:21 but it's in slowmo
Did he say "puking deck"?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
That would also be very accurate!
Dont forget to keep pc specs in description.
please do the same for the Kuznetsov us RED FORCE guys need love too
