I love your example of simply diluting filthy water with clean water. Stressing that we must repent and cleanse the inner vessel first and then immerse ourselves into good works so that our vessel can fill with clean water.
When I was younger, I noticed the difference in the two scriptures as well. I knew by the Spirit that one reason He added '...even as I...' was because at the time of Matthew ch. 5, He had not yet performed the Atonement but by 3 Nephi 12, He had. Then I looked at the scripture footnote and noticed 'perfect' came from a word meaning, 'Finished, complete, fully developed.' I'm not finished either; I'm still working on me and I hope to keep trying and getting better.
I have enjoyed immensely the gospel lesson video's. I have served in many leadership position's, and several times as a senior missionary. The gospel lessons video's have inspired me to always be learning and a reminder to adhere to the covenants made at baptism and in the holy temple.
The word “perfect” back in ancient times in Hebrew meant “Loyal”. Be ye loyal even as your Father in Heaven is Loyal. He keeps His promises and so should we be loyal in keeping our covenants and His commandments. Most only “read” the scriptures, we need to Study them closely and of course Ponder and Pray about them. We also need to understand “Presentism” when reading ancient AND modern canon scripture. It def helps with their True interpretation. Great vid, well done. Thanks goes out to the host 👍🏻
Another thing my Dad has noticed is the footnote of the word, "Whole" or "Complete". Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and through the Covenants and Ordinances of the Gospel (and after the Resurrection and Judgement), we can become Whole and Complete. Also, Jesus Christ was Complete or rather completed His Mission once He became a Resurrected Being and had visited God the Father and the Spirits in the Spirit World.

Nice presentation - I like the emphasis on becoming. Perfect is a highly subjective word and whenever I hear a presentation about it a memory comes back. A long time ago as a missionary I came across a woman who found no beauty or solace in the Sermon on the Mount. She particularly hated the part "be ye therefore perfect" because she felt it was proof that she could never live up the expectations of the Gospel. That bothered me. Later as I was studying what was then the "new" LDS printing of the Bible with footnotes, I noticed a footnote after "perfect" in that phrase. There are 2 other words that could also be inserted in the place of "perfect" - those words are: "whole" and "complete". Thus the phrase could be rendered "be ye therefore whole or complete". I wish I had noticed that while I spoke with her. Whenever a text is translated into another language compromises are made that can affect meaning. Ever since, I have read it "be ye therefore whole, as I, or your Father in Heaven are whole" - and it doesn't seem so out of reach - and through the atonement of Jesus Christ and His Gospel I can become "whole".
These videos have gotten better and better, but the content has been consistently great from day one! Your channel was so good for my husband and me during lockdown. I’m grateful for all the work you put into these lessons! I also appreciate that you tried music... and I appreciate that when it really wasn’t working you weren’t afraid to back off of that one. (I want a fan). I love the visuals on everything you do now.

You're right, I wouldn't want to share watered down, poisonous water with my family, so why do I try to do just that? I really loved learning about the origin of the words 'sin' and 'repentance'. I feel like learning those origins can help us focus one the true meaning of those words. Kindo of like how sacrifice is more about making something holy than giving something up. I also really enoyed the visual amd analogy of the pot and poison/living water. It helps that one of my favorite conference talks is 'like a broken vessel'

Thank you for the analogy of the bucket and also with the Tree (outward, appearance worship vs inner, sincere worship). I think this will help me monitor not only how I choose to Follow Jesus Christ and live His Gospel, but WHY I choose to Follow Jesus Christ and His Gospel. I loved your fasting example with craving food vs focusing on the Spirit, Possible Revelation, and being fully engaged in the experience of the Fast, "Verily, this is fasting and prayer, or in other words, rejoicing and prayer.” (D&C 59:14.) Thank you for reminding me that I need to have a greater personal desire and a willingness to Choose to Follow and Come Unto Christ.
It's not always Satan that causes people to want to beat ourselves up when we aren't perfect. For many people, me included, this is caused by OCD scrupulosity. However, God has blessed through medication and counseling to not feel as over-whelmed as I used to.

Notice that verse 48 is at the end of the one chapter Matthew 5 and 3rd Nephi 12. The chapter deals with character, sacrifice our will, anger, lust, integrity, conflict resolution, generosity and loving enemies. If we master the issues in this chapter we'll be the Children of God, not a natural man. It points us to love. It's how to love in action.
Great video - you explain things step by step, set out the commandments related to the subject, and give examples we can relate to (your Parable of the Clay Pot). Those are methods the Master Teacher used often. Good job - thank you!

People often say when they see somebody extremely fit in the gym, what are you doing here you're done. Well if they stopped working even though they were extremely fit they would go into unfitness very quickly. I think that's a good example of repentance as well

When I first become a convert I saw a picture of Jesus Christ in a red robe. I thought to myself “why is he wearing a red robe? Out of all the colors he has a Red one in the pictures I’ve seen” and when I read “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they be like Crimson, they shall be as wool.-Isaiah 1:18” It then came into my mind, surely this is why his robe is red. Because he took our sins upon him. Our “red like crimson” sins he took upon him. we are cleansed from the Red crimson stains of sins.
This may be the most important video you’ve ever made, because the opportunity given to us to repent is the greatest miracle our Savior ever performed, and the greatest gift our Heavenly Father has granted His children.
I loved this. I have always had a question about my personal little sins we do daily like quick to anger, being frustrated, being rude. While not serious sins these are weaknesses and while i keep trying to have more patients more love, i fail. Part of it seems deep inside my personality, so i feel i need a personality change. I keep trying, keep repenting. But seems i have been doing this since i was 10 years old. How do we fix that. My heart wants to change its the natural man that stops it

I feel like it’s a weakness not rebellion. I keep trying, and I keep going back to it. Maybe I’m just not cut out to live a celestial life and go to the celestial kingdom? This was a really good video which truly stuck to the title of “Repentance”. What about forgiving - not God forgiving your sins (that’s what repentance is about). I’m talking about D&C 64:9-10 where we are commanded to forgive others. Found lots of General Conf talks, and scriptures all about repenting - but “how” does one forgive someone else? In particular when what was done to you by another person is a truly harsh sin? Guess the only thing I’ve found in the scriptures is Christ saying “Father forgive them for they know not what they do”. Still don’t understand the “how” behind that, only that Christ forgave. Maybe you can do the same awesome job with Forgiving as was in this video on Repentance. Thank you for all the research and effort you put into these videos.
Don't call it free agency. Having agency doesn't come without consequences. Whether those consequences are positive or negative, there are consequences. A price has to be paid. Nothing is ever free even agency.
The thing that makes our "jar" of poison holy and without spot and makes us like the Savior and able to enter into His kingdom IS NOT our good works, righteous living, and abstaining from sin. That is false doctrine. We become like the Savior through his grace, and through wonderful events like the second baptism (Math. 3:11) often referred to as the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost. When we are ready, the Savior bestows the gift of the Holy Ghost upon us, and then we are on the straight and narrow path and can seek for more great events (2 Nephi 31:17,18). This is taught throughout the scriptures and by the prophet Joseph Smith, but is often not well understood in the church. Not mentioning the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, the second baptism, the baptism of the spirit, when talking about becoming like the Savior is beyond me. The mighty change and becoming new creatures is not done by us when we try REALLY, REALLY hard. We cannot change ourselves adequately, only the Savior can do that through his grace. We cannot make this change to our nature no matter how hard we try. It would do all of us well to understand the difference between forgiveness of sins and remission of sins; they are NOT the same. Like the people of King Benjamin, we seek a remission of our sins, NOT a forgiveness of our sins (Mosiah 4:2,3). The remission of sins happen when we have the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost.
