We do not know the meaning of artistic genius until we listen to a 7 to 15 year old Angelina Jordan. We can imagine Whitney had some life experience which enabled her to imagine, empathize and produce her magical performance which cannot be mimicked. How did Angelina almost or actually match or even surpass Whitney? Angelina's parents and friends must not allow her to burn out.
Please, she was videoed singing Whitney Houston @ 1.5 yrs old "I Will Always Love You" and when they cut the cord at birth she cried at perfect pitch!

That surprised me. I didn’t see that coming from her upper register at all. I know her lower register is incredible, but how can she have that range? How did so many aptitude’s and physical abilities and so much intelligence and heart and courage wind up converging in the same place? It seems so unlikely, but here it is. Such a gift.

according to Ivan Mendez her guitarist for her home recording in LA the only reason they did more than 1 take was usually because he would make a mistake because he was so entranced by her singing

The amazing thing is his total and absolute confidence in front of the microphone, and with 13 years. I have not heard anyone, of any age or condition, cover this like that, not even Whitney reached those octaves when he performed this song live. And may her fans forgive me, among whom I find myself.

In the description of the video it listed the backing track used for this song, if I remember correctly it's a karaoke track. You don't need to apologize for laughing, I for one know exactly why, when we are confronted with the unbelievable we often laugh as often as we cry. Neither reaction is unusual or "better" it just is.
Words failing is also a regular occurrence and is just an occupational hazard when covering Angelina's music.
Watch Stay, a Rihanna cover simplified to her and a guitarist, and watch the face of Ivan her accompanist. He can barely keep it together.

Thanks for reacting to this amazing performance by the Barefoot Angel. Angelina does not have a recording engineer or a producer hiding behind her for this production; most likely her grandma, Mery Zamani, is recording this video as in most of her videos.

Every time I decide to make a comparison, I heed this poem as a warning:

This was a mega hit for the late great Whitney Houston and Angelina does a wonderful job here covering it at such a young age. It's such a tragedy that Whitney isn't around to hear this.

Angelina performed this on the cusp of her 13th birthday. This may have been her most challenging song up to that time and it is stunning all in one take with just a mediocre backing track. You can see she was really pushing herself to the limits but manages to pull it off! Very few singers regardless of age can do this song justice. Even Whitney struggled at a few of her live performances that can be found on YT. Angelina is fearless because she will put everything on YT including rehearsals and impromptu singing always giving her all to keep improving on an already incredible voice. Thanks for a wonderful commentary Harri. Next please, "FEELING GOOD, Live on the Stream Gir Tilbake" at 10 years old.
I still think Whitney's "Studio Version" is the best I've heard, but as you say, I don't think there is a live version that will top this one by 12 year old Angelina, including any by Whitney. I've challenged a few people to show me a better live version by anyone, and I'm still waiting.

You should watch "It's a Man's World". The musician's reactions to her singing and, indeed, even the conductor can't help his reaction at a certain part, they are all priceless. It's hard not to be mesmerized when she is singing but watching the others in that video makes it worth it😊
I'm not sure if there was any producer here, this looks like "just" a home video made by herself with a backing track.
I've heard that this video was published shortly after some people made comments that Angelina can't sing high notes. Of course she can, she just often prefers to sing low instead.
Just to nitpick a bit… I think it's very likely that this was not done at home (not hers, anyway), since the mic she's using here is different from the one used in her other covers from around the same time (i.e., the mic she got for her 12th birthday). Not that she couldn't have gotten a new mic, but I find it significant that this Whitney tribute and "Nothing Breaks Like a Heart" are the only videos on her CoverChannel where we see her in this setting using this mic, and the latter video was clearly edited together from two different video takes (cutting back and forth between the two), unlike any of her other videos - not to mention how it used the original music track (as opposed to a karaoke track), unlike any of her other covers (including this one, which used a Sing King track) - all of which suggests that both of those covers were recorded under different circumstances than usual. So, it seems likely that she was "somewhere else", working with "someone else". This might be the home studio of whomever that "someone else" was, though. [grin]

Agree that this is a great tribute. Whitney was 29 when she recorded this song; Angelina is 13, less than half that age. As other reactors have commented, AJ is pushing herself to the limit of her range here (that is, her range at 13!). I'd love to hear her tackle this song now, at 15, with live accompaniment on solo piano. She's within Whitney's ballpark at 13. I think she'd blow it out of the park now.
She only gets better. Her first musical language is jazz.

My ears hear Whitney Houston here but my eyes see Angelina... It's a weird feeling.. Look at her confidence!!!!
There are a couple of "specialists" who can sing this song 'easier' than Angelina does here, if you just judge it by vocal technique! But only very few choose to sing it in this high key! Even Whitney did it one whole tone lower many times and not always was she as stable as with the studio recording! Now Angelina obviously has a (low)middle range tessitura with a beautiful low ánd a powerful high, which is quite unique at that age! She would have sung it flawless a note lower! But she always sings covers in the most original key! You here some struggle at the end if you listen carefully. But still it is mindblowing! And she sings it with so much passion and 'heart' and sincerity, and all of it in one take! So I love this rendition. Other singers may sing it a bit easier, but less interesting mostly! And those other singers would never be able to sing as versatile as this 'little' Angel! I don't think Whitney would have been able to sing "How great thou art" as low (and beautiful) as Angelina f.i. I don't like to talk about singing too much in competitive terms, but somehow this song seems to be the testmatch for belting. Now we know Angelina can! She is born to sing!

Im a huge AJ fan but in my ears its obvious that, at the time this was recorded, it was still a too big song for her to handle. Im sure she could do it fully justice today tho.
Yes, she WAS running a bit out of air towards the end, but at age 12-13 the lungs are by no means fully developed. I still think this performance works very well as a tribute from a girl that age. She shows respect by doing this in the first place, but she also shows that she's not afraid to give it her all, AND she shows any doubters that she CAN belt if she wants to. Summed up, this is still a 10/10 for me. :-)

I love this from Angelina. It really shows her range and potential. This is the same key as Whitney, and the vocals could be mapped to Whitney's release. A year ago she redid the song lowering the key from G to E. It is so much better and in my opinion is better than Whitney's

Good for her, she really has a range but sometimes I hear her slides off the notes a bit, I'm wondering if it's some level of maturity yet to be gained, but I'm curious, does she have a bit of a speech impediment? Or is it something about her vocal development because she's young? She's really good but something just is off to my ear, but I am nobody, it's probably just me.
