Small correction about Ragna it's not a set healing it's actually a scale that increases the more drive moves are used in succession. The way I like to describe BBCF to my friends is this: there is no game out there which feels more like a battle shonen fight scene. The characters aren't just designed to be unique, they're also designed to fulfill specific power fantasies, their kits are extremely cohesive on both a mechanical and conceptual level.
While I love Guilty Gear, some of the more weird designs they have feel so outlandish that it's difficult to imagine what kind of person may enjoy playing them. I never have that with BBCF, even with the weirdest of the weirds like Izanami, Nine and Arakune. It's pretty clear to understand what each character will be trying to do, and that is a great thing in my opinion.

"extremely cohesive" is exactly the opposite of how i describe the game to people i usually say something like "every character has their own gimmicks and systems making them play almost by completely different rules then the rest of the cast, playing against almost every character feels like you are playing a different game and almost every character is super fucked up"

    • @chazaqiel2319

      @@garethmagis
I said the characters' kits are cohesive, not necessarily the game as a whole. In fact, I think BBCF definitely has an issue with mechanics bloat. But as far as character design is concerned, all of their tools exist to contribute towards a certain goal, while still allowing for enough variance to allow people to create their own personal playstyle.
Which is very impressive, in my opinion.

Well the game has an amazing cast of character, simple but deep mechanics (and if you played any previous Guilty Gear you'll feel right at home) and it's the climax of one of the most convoluted yet most beautiful stories I've ever had the pleasure to experience. It's not a question of "is it worth it?" It's a question of "why you haven't done it yet ?"

    • @gameboyadvancedsp6727
      @gameboyadvancedsp6727 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here's my why:
-Judging from Chronophantasma, the story has *no gameplay.* Well yes, but like 20 fights... Fascinating. And most take long to play again.
At that point, why not make a movie?
-There's other modes at least, but they're all under the "play again but with a different goal" repetitiveness with not much change. It gets tiring.
      Basically, there's no content.
(Now I'm thinking twice the more I investigate)
-"Simple mechanics"? I disagree. Heck, even *GekkoSquirrel* poked the "simplicity" of the game.
I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, maybe except it'll take a lot of time to enter Online because of the mechanics (< that's me) and some might be scared of how complex BB is, but it's ok.
      *This is a big one:*
      -It's another (2D) Fast-Pace, High-Combo Fighting Game...
I'm happy with 2 Guilty Gears, DNF Duel and Them's Fighting Herds. Even I have 2 BBs and some others FGs, but I'm not into them.
And the issue is most of them (even the one I like) are, again, fast-pace, high-combo fighters, *an FGCs favorite,* and with almost no content. So why buy another one like BB CF.
I want something like Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter and Akatsuki Blitzcampf level of pace and combo-level, but most I want aren't in Steam and/or have similar issues to the repetitiveness. (Hopefully Street Fighter 6 fix it)

@@gameboyadvancedsp6727 to me it's sounds like CF isn't your tipe of fighting game (all the ones you listed are traditional 2d fighting). As for the mechanics I don't think they are particulary complicated, as Gekko said it's the fact that each character plays so vastly different from each other that makes the game difficult to learn for a beginer (I was facilitated by coming into the series early with CS2).

I kinda feel like Blazblue revolutionized fighting games with its visionary Drive System, so much that Street Fighter 5 tried to copy it but failed.
(some older games touched onto these unique mechanic systems, but never properly followed through the way BB does)
Also boasts a pretty compelling story for a fighting game as well thanks to using "time" to subvert the biggest downfall of other fighting games:
Killing characters in order to drive the story, but losing said characters usually never to return - causing sadness..
    Lastly, impeccable English voice cast.

Funnily enough, I got BlazBlue Central fiction on the Switch as a means to be evenly matched with a local friend of mine when playing a fighting game. He was extensively familiar with Mortal Kombat while I was more familiar with Super Smash Bros but playing either one of those would result in one of us dominating the living hell out of the other who wasn't very familiar with the other game. I got BlazBlue Central fiction on the eShop cuz it seemed like it would be a good middle ground and we'd both go into the game blind and learning it's mechanics from there.

Matches between tournament players are such displays of not only excellent fighting game skill, but demonstrations of extreme character mastery and matchup knowledge in a game where different characters, as you said, are playing totally different games to one another, and it makes for some of the most awesome stuff I've ever seen.

And actually similar case for Active Flow - it also gives you an OD gauge regen, which is why ending combos with Exceed Accel can sometimes be a better play than going for higher damage. Also worth noting that burst costs more gauge than Overdrive and locks you out of Active Flow for the whole round, so bursting is generally a lot more committal than in GG.

Joke aside, BB has been my main FG since last year. Initially I didn't expect much but it quickly grew on me. Being originally an SF player, BB's gameplay feels surprisingly close to SFV, with ABC being Light, Medium and Heavy. All the terms and story are also a lot more accessible than GG, which I played before but never really got into after XX and Xrd. It got me from being a complete trash at FGs in general into an average low level scrub. It's actually fun to do combo challenges and stay frequently in training room and really feel my skill slowly getting better over time, something even SFV didn't manage to convince me to.
While it's true that the game has a small player base right now, it's also one of the friendliest FGCs I've ever seen. Veterans will most likely welcome newbies and even offer you good advice to improve. There are players of all level across Discord so with a little bit of research, new players can find Discord servers with nearby players around their level and enjoy the game. The game is really fun now that rollback netcode is a thing. For just a few bucks it's definitely worth a try.

BBCF is an amazing game for a very specific audience, and I think the question is not whether or not you should play it, it's whether or not you fit into that category. If you enjoy playing fighting games competitively and have the time and determination to master it without giving up easily, BBCF is for you. Singleplayer content aside, this is not a casual fighting game. It will not hold your hand and there is a lot to learn and practice if you want to be good at it. That being said, the game is so complex and interesting in every match that it's almost impossible not to like if you fit into that category. If you're considering picking up this game I strongly recommend starting with an easier character like Ragna to make the learning process easier and more fun.

Hot take but picking an easier character works for games like Street Fighter but not for GG and Blazblue. If someone was to buy these games and wants to play Eddie/Carl then picking Ky/Ragna is basically pointless for them since those skills don’t transfer at all

    • @raiyu2292
      @raiyu2292 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MILDMONSTER1234 Anyone who plays fighting games regularly would know that a majority of the skills you learn in one game or with one character will transfer to others. Picking an easier character to learn with in any fighting game is a smart idea. This is especially true for BBCF since the game is very complicated compared to most fighters and takes a long time to develop those skills.

@@raiyu2292 if this was KOF a game primarily focused on the system mechanics rather then the characters themselves I’d agree but BBCF learning curve isn’t like most fighters cause everyone is so wildly different from each other. The game is more about 50% character mechanics and 50% the game itself so Learning each character is basically a new skill set entirely and character specific. Learning Kyo and Ryu will help with Terry and Cammy but learning Hibiki isn’t gonna do much for learning Arakune. BBCF is gonna be a difficult game regardless of who you play so you might as well pick whoever looks the coolest/fits your play style unless you really need to understand neutral in which case yeah play Ragna

Ah. BlazBlue Central Fiction" , which is a game that is arguably just as complex as "Guilty Gear XRD Revelator," with the game like Revelator having legacy skill, meaning if you haven't stuck with the game since the original back in 2008 you have a MASSIVE hill to climb in learning frame data for each character's normals, gatlings, and overall mobility options that can be used on offense and neutral. Then there are the game's plentiful system mechanics, such as having a half a dozen options on defense that you need to master such as having four ways to block based on specific scenarios for example, and the game having a multitude of wake up options with each having a specific use, and that's not even going into the Drive mechanic, which is a unique action for each character, which there are OVER 35 of, which MOST of the cast plays VASTLY DIFFERENT from each other.
Mainline BlazBlue games were HUGE in japan, with it being popular in many Japanese arcades, and as Majin Obama stated in a podcast with Blasted Salami that the series had at one point been up there even with the almighty Tekken in terms of popularity. With many veterans like Dogura ( who is one of the best players in Guilty Gear who uses Slayer) and Fenrich ( who is arguably the best BB player, and currently one the best in DBFZ) representing the series for a long time . Sadly, The series just never took off over here in the west. However, the lack of popularity nationwide doesn't equate to the game's quality. The fact that is arguably the most unique AND complex 2D fighter on the market, but isn't talked about hardly at all in the west was always baffling to me. Especially when I read comments, and watch videos of people in the FGC complaining about how boring fighting games have gotten recently, or how easy it has become and yet will REFUSE to give the game a try. Thankfully, that seems to be changing, for instance Lord Knight, a tournament player who plays a variety of different fighting games recently made a fighting game tier list and put "BlazBlue Central Fiction" near the top, as well as popular Guilty Gear content creators like Majin Obama saying on blasted salami's podcast that "BlazBlue Central Fiction" is HARDER than Guilty Gear Xrd. For those who want to see high level game play in order to get a grasp of how hype this game can potentially be for you, I'd recommend a video titled "BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Grand Finals - Evo 2014" on youtube, and while the game represented there is not Central Fiction, I think it works, since Central Fiction is more of an evolution of Chrono Phantasma any way. Other channel's include "Burst Recap" and "Jourdal" for more high level Japanese play.
Finally, BB TAG and mainline BlazBlue games are two SEPARATE things all together, with BBTAG having it's own set of rules with the system mechanics, and SIMPLIFYING ALL of the characters. It's for these reasons that you can't approach "BlazBlue Central Fiction" in the same way that you would BBTAG.

Rollback is nice, probably my favourite Fighting Game of all time, but i personally can't even recommend it. Large learning curve and a community of old-heads that are already very good at the game, just doesn't seem new player friendly imho, despite the many resources available for the game. The only fighting games that are "new player friendly" are the ones that lack any level of hereditary carry-over from previous titles - which is essentially absolutely none of them.
That's because, the longer you play, the more that muscle memory carries over between games. Eventually the entrenched playerbase (your "old heads," of which I am one) will have such a technical acumen in the genre that they can pick up _any_ game and step all over anyone who's just entering the scene. Yes, even Tekken or Virtua Fighter. (Speaking from experience.)
This is by design. Arcades were _always_ like that. Fighting games are just that distilled expectation given its true form, and now that they're all online, so is that experience. If you choose not to play a fighting game because it's not "new player friendly," you might as well not play _any_ of them, because that state is one without end. Your only option is to play a fighting game until you're no longer a "new player." As Justin Wong would say, "YOU'RE GONNA LEARN TODAY."

What i said, again, is that it's hard for me to recommend BB to new player's/friend's who wanna try, because i'd say it's tougher than most other FG's to learn, even despite the resources the BB community does have, i would argue it has a steeper learning curve than majority of fighting games even for an experienced SF player f.e. Agree to disagree is about all i can say otherwise. Though you certainly are not wrong, i don't think it's quite that simple when it comes to a game like BBCF which is... effectively dead, unfortunately. TLDR: BBCF is The best FG of all time, but it's hardly worth it in today's age imho, and some of the ppl trying to keep it alive actually have a pretty bad attitude which certainly doesn't help imho. I sit here 1.5 years later and every time i tune into BB these days it's the same as when i left, nothing has changed.

I used to play BBCT with my brother on the 360 and even back then when every character was as basic as they can be (Ragna, Jin, and Noel are still pretty close to the old versions) everyone was very unique. Arakune was also able to curse you in one hit making the game essentially a running sim as so you wouldn't get hit making him the best character at the time. We used to have it to where every time one of us lost we had to play as Carl until we one since he was the worst character unless you were able to infinite
