- Having pie & mash in a London pub is always a good day. There's nothing like an old London pub serving good food- especially the old comfort food pie & mash. Pie and mash is a favourite of mine - especially the proper pie, mash & liquor. I wonder if the Hatton Garden robbers used the London pub before they made their move?
Question is: puff pastry or short crust pastry?
Just off Hatton Garden, this old London pub ( Sir Christopher Hatton ) has a great history with some diamonds to keep it company - off the charts!

Such lovely presentation your videos Darren, love we can read the information at leisure and that you don’t just point the camera for a few seconds, the information about Mr Hatton was really interested. The food looked so delicious and mouthwatering for a lunch time menu.

Last time I was in London (from Australia) I had pies in a couple of those Nicholson's pubs and really enjoyed them. Agree, the pastry is quite thick. Aussie style pies are shortcrust base and puff pasty top; makes a nice combo. Seem to taste even nicer when eaten from a paper bag while at the footy.

Well, that's my dinner sorted for today, pie n mash, can't see it being up to the standard of that one, that looked like one of the best ones i have seen.

In the 50's/60's me old mam used to make a nice eel pie in a nice water crust pastry, and would serve it up on sundays with mash, and her very own sauce.. it was off the charts

I don't think I have ever taken the lid off a pie but I notice quite a few food reviewers do. I guess its to show the viewers what is inside.

Ive always said it right from the start
this is a Diamond Geezer,
only a matter of time before he vlogged from Hatton Gadens.
Well,
This timely vlog had all the hallmarks regardless of it being a chain resto of something special,
Ive followed all previous DG vlogs in detail esp the sausage ,mash, and liquer ones, but on a personal touch and level this stood out like Emley Moor mast on a mizzle like day,
One thinks Pie ? and you get a Pie,
You dont expect to get a creation,a volcanic explosion of colour, filling and crust.
This on looks alone was Busta blood vessel time, sat on a bed of mash and veg,
the highlight being the Victoria Falls pouring of the Bisto gravy a sight worth the admission ticket alone...
To cap it all with a real pint of beer,
u know its real beer when the froth grips your moustache like a rat caught up in a drainpipe.
The whole vlog had me dribbling like a baby having its first solid feed,
For me this was Pie heavon, being a half bred Yorkshireman i can imagine it smothered in mushy peas and mint sauce.. Dreams are made of this in this part of the world .
But this is what Dapper Darren brings to the channel a moment of indulgence and quite brilliant content , filming, and editing..
Simply Amazing.

Nice place, I suppose it caters mainly for the local business people and officer workers etc, hence it closes on weekends. Anyway, nice looking pie, plenty of filling, but to me a lot of pastry there. Mash, veg and gravy looked good. Liked the big plate too. The beer looked nice and bright and fresh. London prices...From me it is a 9.

I don't know what was more entertaining, the ' food porn ' part of the gravy being poured over the pie, or the smug look of sheer delight on your face as you ate said pie. Either way, a rather fab TH-cam recommendation, that made me smile ... 😊
