This is a fantastic video! My kids and I have been watching lots of the Red Bull soapbox races, and this video has answered lots of the questions we had about what goes on behind the scenes and what goes into building one.

Depends on how long the runway is, in theory 100+ mph with a 400 size turbine. Will be interesting to find out.

My daughter has asked me to build her a "soapbox" cart for 2023 entering the same event as yourselves.
Did you keep a total of costs for materials, (looks expensive)
What was the final weight of the cart?
In your opinion how well organised was the event from a safety perspective?

Hi Rob, I spent about £2k on materials & another £600 on our stage performance. I also spent nearly 500 hours labour. It was massively overkill for the event, most people just use a converted go-kart, quad bike or two mountain bikes with a foam or cardboard body. The crowd prefer the ones that fall apart 👍. My soapbox was 87kgs without the co2 system. Rules are very relaxed, they seemed to focus on ground clearance and good breaks. They didn’t weigh the soapboxes. It’s quite dangerous, 6 people went to hospital after the event with 1 seriously injured. We had full face helmets and body armour and were fine. Definitely worth a go, we might be back next year, see you there 😉

Excellent behind the scenes look Mr Havoc, surprised at all the limitations given some of the RB soap box races I've seen which appear to have all mannor of "illegal" items when they abroad, I suspect its the UK's wimpy H&S culture that stops us having proper fun. Will look forward to the televised event when I spot it. Be nice to say to the Mrs " I follow this chap on youtube and he's even created one of my suggestions a while back" 😃 #ChilledDrinks
I know the Peltier cooler was an amazing idea, even if it did kill my batteries in seconds and totally freeze up lol! The soapbox rules are somewhat flexible 😬 don’t want to say too much and get myself in trouble 😉. The TV show is August 29th on Dave 👍 You can’t quite see on the tele how good the soapboxes are, lots of professionals, there were at least 10 soapbox’s that were stunning, some took 4 years to build. Amazing.
@@majorhavoc I'll keep an eye out for it, been watching RB Soapbox since the begining and some are amazing bits of machinery where as others you can see they have not really thought about it LOL. Ah flexible rules 😀 I think for a 10 week build there was a lot of craftsmanship in yours, I presume you've got your application in for next year 🙂

Why would you add all the fiberglass and resin if it already had a strong wooden exterior? More weight?
It started to get little hairline cracks between the wood slats, thin layer of fibreglass fixed the problem.
