It's quite hard to hide the batteries

So, I had this really weird obsession with hovercrafts when I was about 9 or 10. I even built a simple one for my science fair project one year. It was just a piece of round particle board with a skirt I made from a shower curtain and an electric leaf blower for lift. I'd still love to own a manufactured one someday, but this may be my next weekend project. What kind and thickness of material did you use for the base?

Next time when you saw a piece of acrilic, please use some painters tape for edge protection and/or soapy water. You will saw a lot more easy and less change of damage.

Look like a lot of fun! Maybe have another look at the lift motors, getting volume in is more important than the speed. Also the skirt is a bit off, and this is essential for optimal performance. You can have a look at our "model hovercraft association" page and look for the video: "How to design model hovercraft bag skirt". Maintain a ride height of 1/8 of the width of the model. If you need help I'm willing to make the patterns if you like, I just need the dimensions of your model. Also the center of gravity is very important, try to keep it centered and a bit to the back when on water. Cheers mate!

Would work even better with a properly designed bag skirt and lighter weight materials I would think. Also you really don't need EDFs for lift - something like a squirrel cage fan would give plenty of pressure.
