- My first walk over Crib Goch, including "the sound of fear" commentary! I was going to edit it down more but decided to leave it as it shows how the route towards the end is a bit unclear. Fabulous weather and views made for a great (and very hot) day.
I hope you enjoy the video...and my very obvious fear!
Bravely done. I’m in a hospice bed and you brought back many of my best days in the mountains. Thank you.
Thanks mate, I've been talked into doing again on Friday! ATB, Spencer 👍
This video had me sitting on the edge.. phew!!
Well done pal 👏
Me too when I watched it back..and I was there! 😀👍
I bow my head to you, I can honestly say, this is the best realistic, honest video of Crib Goch I have ever seen....and your first time...this is professional stuff!.....well done Spencer! The best thing you did was not edit any out...shows a true picture...I am going to give this video a link and your channel a mention in my H&S Saturday if that's ok. :-)
Thanks Paul, and what a privilege to get a mention on the famous hot & spicy 🌶👍 what are you having this week?
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer Having slow roasted pork ribs, with some homemade hot sauce...oh and Carling of course...lol :-)
I guessed the Carling right but thought it would be chicken! Can’t wait! 👍
Blimey! This was the best and most realistic video of Crib Goch I’ve seen. My heart was racing the whole way through! We mountain climb and hike and wild camp in Snowdon all the time, and we’ve done it all, but something always tells me not to do Crib Goch!
Thanks Sam, I am much better with exposure now. I have done Crib Goch again since and found it much easier. The mistake I made was doing it on my own the first time, so if you do decide to give it a go, tag along with someone who has done it before. Thanks for watching. 👍
Oh... my... life. Spencer man, I take my hat off to you, I'm absolutely terrified just watching it! Would love to do it one day, to conquer the fear and say I've done it but I can quite honestly say after watching that, it won't be any time soon. Absolutely incredible, fair do's 👏💪
Cheers Jim. It's funny you should comment on this today, I've just posted the video yesterday of me doing it again. I did the full horseshoe on Friday and it was much easier. You can get used to anything. ATB, Spencer 👍
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer yes I've just spotted that now haha, I'll definitely watch it soon. Keep up the great work posting all your informative videos. I only started hiking about 18 months ago and your videos have been an inspiration and guide to many of my walks already. Considering doing the Carneddau loop you did this Thursday. Thanks again for all you do 👍
Many thanks for the kind words. You will enjoy the carneddau route but try and do it in good visibility. Great views but navigation can be difficult in poor weather if you haven't done it before. 👍
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer will do, thanks for the tip!
Aww this was amazing! You did a brill job doing that by yourself and not giving up! I was throwing words of motivations through the screen! 😂
Cheers, usually there are quite a few people about and the plan was to tag along with someone but the one time I want to see others there was no one! Lol. Thanks for watching 👍
It’s an excellent video. I did crib goch my own back in 2009? I haven’t many photographs of it because I think I spent most of my time concentrating on what I was doing. Now, having watched this video I can’t actually believe that I did this. I continued on to Snowdon and completed the horseshoe on one of the best days ever. I’ve Just subscribed and will be watching some more of your videos to relive walks I’ve done and some to see what I’ve missed out on, as I am of an age where strenuous walks / scrambles are out of reach.
Thank you, I've done the full horseshoe since then, and found it much easier. I've been out of action for a few months with plantar facialitus, but hoping to get back out soon. Thanks for watching 👍
I bailed on the start of this route this morning I expected the ridge but not the hard scramble at the start, next time i’ll be prepared for it. Wish I’d seen your video before. Excellent video the best I’ve seen and closest to real view. Well done !
Thank you. Yes, it’s funny not many people mention the scramble at the start, it’s quite a climb. 👍
Balls of steel... Well done mate, really well done
Thanks..but more like legs of jelly! 😂
Well done I did it a few years ago for my 60th birthday it was something I will remember a few places had my old heart pounding but what an achievement. It is hard so again well done and your video brought back frightening memories👍
Cheers Dave and thanks for watching. Atb, Spencer 👍
Thank you for the 'warts and all' look at Crib Goch, this is one of the best videos I've seen of this track. I am pretty sure I will never have the guts to do it, so I was living frivolously through yourself! Great effort, mate!
Thanks Mark, it does get easier over time. Thanks for watching 👍
Good job, that's hard work. You should be very proud of your accomplishment. I applaud your honesty and humility. Those are becoming rare traits these days.
Cheers, no point pretending I wasn’t scared when I was shaking! 😂
Been watching lots of people climb Crib Goch recently and I think your video has swayed me to actually trying it when I head to Wales in July. The 3 pinnacles at the end of the ridge are what give me pause. Great video!
Thanks. Have a great time, try and tag on to someone who has done it before for support. 👍
Finally, an honest video from up there. Well done, sir! I would never attempt that and I’ve gone skydiving. Seriously.
Thanks. Skydiving seems even more scary to me!! 😂
Directed over from Pauls hot and spicy, wow how did you do that very frightening, very well done to you for making it back safe 👍🏻🏴
Thanks for watching..it was very scary and I should of taken someone with me really. Glad I did it though. 👍
Thank you for reply, that’s good of you ,again brilliant vid of crib Goch , Just watched it again with my good lady , she is also in awe of you to , many thanks & will subscribe to your channel 👍🏻
@@telekon8068 many thanks 👍
Brings back memories. Did it many years ago. Great fun if you've got a head for heights
Definitely, I’ve got a much better head for heights now, than when I did it then! 😂👍
Great job Spencer....................Have done Crib Goch multiple times and it’s exhilarating. I find the best way is don’t look down to the right and keep focussing (tunnel vision) ahead and planning where you are going to place your feet.
Yep, good advice. That drop to the right is definitely best avoided! Thanks for watching. ATB, Spencer 👍
Great video fair play to you I know I couldn’t do it and your video has a very real feel to it your breathing etc gives it that ,I prefer videos like this that may prevent people who are unsure and it might save someone getting hurt iv seen too many of the route that make it look very easy .well-done completing it 👌👍
Cheers Gary, I wanted to film the ridge crossing in one go to show what it is really like. I think if I had seen a video like this I might not of done it! The exposure is really scary if you don’t like heights but there is nothing technical about it....I shouldn’t of done it on my own though. 👍
Well done that was incredible. Braver man than me. Thanks for posting. You gave a great realistic view of it. And what a day of weather
Thanks. The weather makes all the difference on Crib Goch., I wouldn’t do it in wet and windy conditions. 👍
Enjoyed your video -thanks - great views too
Ive been working in Snowdonia all summer and became fascinated by Crib Goch after watching videos of it. But after having a conversation with a member of the Llanberis mountain rescue team and hearing the tales of what happens when it all goes wrong I wouldnt even do it by helicopter. Alas 6 -12 people every year pay the ultimate price when they get it wrong. I take my hat off to anyone attempting it, but for Gods sake be careful, it takes no prisoners.
Yeah, it’s not to be taken lightly and needs good weather conditions to attempt. Thanks for watching. 👍
Cheers Spence. I've done it once before about 10 years ago and have it planned next week. I have to admit I'm really worried about it. This FPV was very helpful so thanks and well done. I feel I will get the shakes like you did as I'm scared of heights also but inspired by what you have done here.
Slow and steady, focus on each move and you will be fine. 👍
Well done! brilliant job...it was honest footage and really good to watch thanks for sharing it.ATB Ana
Cheers Ana. 👍
I've the utmost respect for you, both in doing it and your honest stance in the footage. I would love to do it, but there's a big fat zero chance of me ever veering off up to the start of Crib Goch! Really enjoyed the footage and massive well done 👏. Subscribed, so will watch some of your others now. All the best.
Cheers Alan, never say never. I used to say I would never do Crib Goch too. Mind you, I’m sure how I did it! 😂 thanks for watching and the sub. ATB, Spencer 👍
I feel your emotions mate I was telling myself the same thing I just kept it moving, stopping regularly made me worse. But after a while you start to take it for what it is, be calm and relaxed and you’ll enjoy the view. In a sense talking yourself Confident is perfect in these situations.
Thanks mate, concentrating on what you're doing helped me. I've even agreed to do it again end of May! 🤔
Well done I was the same as you when I first did it and I was 17 years old but with someone would never do it on my own so hats off to you for that 👍🏻
Thanks, it's a bit typical that the one time I wouldn't mind some company there is no one about! 😄
This just came up on autoplay .... you're a braver man than me Andy ,I hate heights and exposure and like yourself you've really got to put it to one side ...I've done a few munros with quite hairy bits and without the support of my mates there I'd probably have backed out ... credit to you for doing this on your own 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Cheers, not sure who Andy is though! 😄 I've done it again since ans it's a lot easier the second time. Thanks for watching. 👍
😂 my humble apologies, I was watching a previous video from Andy Lucking and this popped up on autoplay .... never thought to check the content on who's channel it was 😮 ....bank holiday beers for you 😂
😂😂 I've been called far worse... 😂😂
I have done it 2 days ago. Wind and clouds, mist makes it more tough. It is like living on the edge. Please book your parking space before you leave. I have done roadside parking and that was extra 2 miles. Task to check dare.
After half track you have to use your hands to climb up. Strong hands and strong legs and some water you need. Slowly and steady you can do it. I like this route better than Watkin Path. Snowdon Summit through Crib Goch. At least once in a lifetime, do it.
It's a great route. The scramble to get up there is rarely mentioned but it's a great scramble in its own right. 👍
Hats off to you fella very well done, definitely earned my full respect and a well earned SUB.
Many thanks for the comment and sub, much appreciated 👍
That was inspiring stuff I could hear the fear in your voice but you seen it through, a man of steel you should be proud Well Done, Hopefully one day if I am Brave enough I may just have a Crack at Crib Goch its on the Bucket list, Watched a number of your videos and they are very good and helpful to anyone like myself who is really still learning to do some of the routes in Snowdonia, Love the dry sense of humour and your relaxed way with the camera, whats there not to like so I had to subscribe and like of course, Brilliant video, Keep Safe and Well Spencer, Les.
Thanks very much for the kind words Les. 👍 After doing Striding Edge I thought I would give Crib Goch go. But that is a different level if you are not comfortable with exposure. Though in a funny way it is a safe route..because you concentrate so hard and test every hand and foothold. 😂 Thanks for watching 👍
Staying alive is never cheating lad! Great job lad!
Very true. Thanks for watching. 👍
Popped over from the Hot and Spicy after Paul gave you a shoutout and am really enjoying the video! Great stuff chap.
Cheers Thomas, maybe I should get Paul to do a hot & spicy 🌶 from the top of Crib Goch! 😂
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer The ultimate crossover! Not sure I'd have much of an appetite myself! I was only part way through the video when I posted last time and having watched all of it through it was fantastic, I was only vaguely aware of Crib Goch before but after seeing your video have been watching other's and reading up on it and blimey! It is no joke! Look forward to watching more of your videos, cheers.
I enjoyed watching this, although it was making my nerves jangle. I want to do it one day, when I do, I will think of your courage and keep going . Well done!!
Thanks for that. Best way to do it is by just focusing on the next move. It's just the height that makes it scary. 👍
Well done!! I have felt like that before sometimes, there's only one metre difference between Carnedd Llewellyn, and Snowdon's twin peak. Though technically Llewellyn is the second highest, as there's supposed to be a 250 foot drop between peaks, though your right really. Excellent 👌
Thanks Andrew 👍
Spencer I tip my hat to you for doing Crib Goch. me and Mark have been talking about doing it for a while, but he is keen to do it but I don’t think I will be as I’m scared I might freeze at the top. That was a great insight into your experience doing it, you got more balls than me that’s for sure, well done great video 👍
I always say there is a difference between being terrified and petrified. I am scared of heights and to be fair I was shaking and terrified doing it, but the fear made me focus. Being petrified is different, then you can freeze. If you are just scared go for it, there is probably more chance of falling out of bed than off Crib Goch 😂
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer I’m still undecided 🤣🤣
They say the only way is up... Unfortunately there is another way! 😂
What a fantastic honest video spacer. I've done Snowdon 5 times n have thought about doing this route nxt 😰
Cheers Richard, if you are not scared of sheer drops it’s fine! But it’s scary if you are..😂
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer the heights don't bother me it's the falling down them that does 😊
Richard Bourne and that’s the real problem! I suppose the solution is make sure you don’t fall! 😄
It's actually more fun in winter, I've done it a few times, in the summer it's best to walk below the ridgeline and use your right hand to balance you as your scrambling across the ridge... try it in winter , the first part is nerve recking, but after that it's quite enjoyable, takes a lot longer to get a cross as the speed is reduced from snow and ice ... but definitely has to be on your bucket list ... well done 🤟🙂
Cheers Wayne, I think I'm a bit too much of a wimp to do it in winter conditions! 😂 But you never know... One day! Thanks for watching. 👍
Class video mate! Looking on going up here on the next sunny weekend !
Cheers Liam and thanks for the sub. Hope you enjoy it when you do..weather and lockdowns permitting! 👍
As someone who has a fear of heights and pushes himself (I've done the pyg track) I know after watching this I'll never be able to do the pyg track, brilliant video but I know my limits
You never know mate, I thought the same. Mind you, I was scared! 🤣
Looks great!
It was...the next time I did it! 😄👍
Would like to say how cracking a video this is! The way you negotiated the ridge was reassuring, though I must admit at times you went waaaay too close to the sheer drop for my liking and I could feel like my legs tensing up just watching. I felt like I was actually there with you, and could feel the great sense of achievement and growth of character afterwards. Thank you for this - deffo on the bucketlist.
Cheers John, I think I was too scared to fall! There’s something about fear that aids concentration! 😂 when I watched it back I was gripping the arms of the chair, but yes, the sense of achievement was awesome. Thanks for watching. 👍
Well done Spencer! You did what I've done, and countless others, bypassed the third pinnacle to the left which is actually more awkward (apparently!) than scrambling over it but much less exposed. Bang on with the assessment - it is much harder than Striding Edge.
Cheers Mark, it was a great day but probably shouldn’t of done it on my own for the first time. 👍
The third pinnacle is extremely dangerous, especially for those without a head for heights. Dodging it to the left is not difficult but you do have to sacrifice more height than you would like then regain it if you're continuing along to Crib Y Ddysgl. That's a good choice for those who attach high importance to surviving their mountain walks.
I tend to view survival as an above average requirement. 🤣 saying that, I did the pinnacles a couple of months ago. Although nervous I wasn't scared this time. 👍
any tips on route to ascent ,great job buddy doing it this year if your up for it.
Aim to the right on the ascent, that's the hardest bit. The rest is just the exposure so it's fine if you're OK with heights. If I'm free I'd like to do it again. Other tip, don't do it on your own the first time. 👍
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer ok buddy my email is swordy74@yahoo.co.uk if you want to do it this year , need the experience with you mate
Thoroughly enjoyed that, thank you ! Can’t wait to visit snowdonia for the first time once all this COVID is over
Thanks Tom, hopefully t won't be too long now. 👍
did you manage to get to Snowdonia?
well done mate..👍🏻
Well done Spencer. I want to do this as well once this darn covid 19 is over with....
Cheers, if you are not scared of heights then it's fine but if you are it's well scary 😀
Out and about with Spencer I am taking your wise advice and not going to do it on my own. Going with a couple of welsh cousins of mine who have traversed it many times.
Kevin Welland very wise, enjoy! 👍
Well done Spencer great video
Well done mate. This route is on the to do list. Instant sub from me.
Cheers mate 👍
Great video we'll done felt I was there with you😂👍
Thanks, it's much easier the second time. 👍

Nice one Spencer 👍
Dam imagine getting a cramp on crib Goch.... Lol
Not a good idea lol. 😬
Superb m8.
Cheers Paul 👍
I'm with ya lad!
What was crib Goch like to do I’m not afraid of heights I’m afraid of falling off there
It's easy if you don't mind heights, the hardest bit is the scramble up there. But if you don't like heights don't bother! It's only dangerous if you fall. 😂😂
😂😂😂i don’t mind heights like you say it’s the falling that shakes me a little
Phenomenal... Much respect to you..... Your lucky to have it to yourself I think that helped you to go at your pace and remain calm.....
Can i ask did I you climb any of the pinnacles? I ask because supposed t going next month, and one of the group doesn’t want to do it because of the pinnacles
No, I bypassed them. I wasn't sure of route over them. Tell your mate that once you are across the main ridge everything else can by bypassed easily. Have fun 👍
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer i appreciate that mate, i will let him know, hopefully he’ll be good to go. Nice video as well, congrats. This will test me, so looking forward to it, weather permitting.
If you can handle heights it is fine, nothing technical. The scramble up to the start is the hardest part, don't stray too far to the left. 👍
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer thanks for the advice, really appreciate it
Well done its nice to see a video without all the bravado good effort
Cheers Dave. 👍
Take my hat off to u mate, i had to turn back and scramble down, vertigo wud'nt let me do it 🙈👣⛰
It's one of them, no fear of heights and its a piece of cake. But, if you don't like heights it's a tough one. I nearly turned back when no one else turned up to tag along with, but glad I did it now. Thanks for watching 👍
@@OutandaboutwithSpencer Its a great video mate, gives a very true perspective ⛰👣💩🤣

Thank you 👍
The bloke in front of you wasn't very chatty....the miserable sod... Should of given you some encouragement... Its like he was going for a world record....
magic
Who will be the first to fly a kite with a go pro on it from Crib Goch ? Guinness records ?
🤣🤣
Your life is literally on the edge, I really don’t know I would if I would want to risk that. I saw the videos of a father and his kids which I think is Purely irresponsible on his part no matter how much he train them, if at all. You’re supposed to protect and treasure your kids not put them in harms way
There are lots of people take their kids (and dogs!). I wouldn't do it myself but if they are experienced, have no fear of heights and are properly supervised I don't think it's my place to criticise. But there are some irresponsible people about unfortunately. 👍
🥇
Are you a Yorkshire man?
No mate, born in Wales. 👍
Chuffin' ell!!
😂😂
Well done i failed big time atb
Cheers, it was easier to go on than back! And if I had bottled it the film wouldn’t have been made. 😂
Your a better man than I am
No, I've just got less sense than you! 😄 Thanks for watching 👍
Get down now.
Holy crap. I would have been calling for a Helicopter rescue.
It was the thought of being winched up that kept me going.. Imagine dangling on the end of a rope above that!! 😂😂
Brilliant 👏 Can you please confirm that you started from Pen Y Pass also can you get to Snowdon across the ridge or do you have to drop down after Crib Goch to the Pyg track ? What a day you picked for it hope i get just as lucky ☀️ ⛰️
Hi David, yes you can carry on to Snowdon Summit. Then retrace your steps to drop down the Pyg track. I hope you drop lucky with the weather 👍
