Been with Starlink about a month. Prices on the mounts have definitely increased. Using the short mount. Wish they had made it slightly deeper. Dishy’s post is almost touching the metal drip edge. Had to trim the shingles in that area to allow clearance.

It works fine now. After I did a couple factory resets, it started working okay. Starlink running great. Settling down and running mostly around 130 -190 mbps down, 30 - 47 ping, and 7- 20 up. Of course it does still move around on the speeds, but getting better after only 1 day. Thanks to JCristina and all his information, really helps...R
You need a 1/2" socket to screw in the lag bolts. It won't work if you have a tile roof and you try to install it on the fascia, simply not enough vertical clearance. Starlink recommends 4" clearance from the top of the roof. Also, I screwed an additional 2x6 to the inside of the fascia to give the lag bolts enough grip. They are 3" long so two 2x material (actual 1.5") plus the short mount bracket means the lag bolt end won't protrude through the lumber.
@@jcristina @ShakespeareCafe - So, it seems that I have sheet metal fascia - any guess as to what's behind that metal fascia? Also - how far are the mounting screw holes from each other? Is this the part of the dimensions provided for the short wall mount - of 2.77 Length? And would that mean that I need sheet metal drill bits in the 5/32 size?
You really should unplug the power from the router before unplugging or replugging the data cable that goes from the bottom of the router to the dish at either end as it does also carry power, and there is the potential for zapping and killing your system when you disconnect or connect it with the wall power applied.
Do you have the long wall mount? Do you know if it can be used in extreme climates, I live in a place with very strong winds capable of knocking down large branches, and I am afraid that my starlink could blow away? I need a answer plis
Deleted the app and reinstalled it right from Starlink's suggested app store. Google app store. Same as the one I had. Still doesn't do anything. Some of the TH-cam videos on this show the small spots as you are scanning the sky disappear as you complete the scan. Don't get any of that. So not to worry, I will set it up tomorrow where there is nothing but clear sky above and see how it works. Then it is going on the gable with the gable mount which will be here by the end of the month. Thanks for you help...
Make sure you have open sky in the NW N and NE if you're in the northern hemisphere or SW S and SE in the Southern hemisphere and you should be right as rain!
So, three days ago I put the Gen 2 dish on the roof. Then I was able to uploaded to TH-cam a 12Gb AVI file. So it was working. Now 2 days later, as of last night I have a Starlink Connection, but it also says NO INTERNET. I have tried reseating the connectors and restarting the router. Nothing helps. There are trees off in the distance, the same ones that were there when Starlink was working. The only thing left is that MAYBE Starlink is down. It that common? I saw a webpage that listed Starlink down times, but was not a Starlink site.
That is how I feel too. Maybe it is time for a "Factory Reset"? This is not a Drop Out issue from an Obstruction. It is a "Connected" with "No Internet" issue. There are lots of bars too. I am getting Connected. Then above that is No Internet.
Things are working here again. 2 factory resets did it. I was then able to get in and create a new network with my browser. Now I just have to find the best location for the dish. There are these two 240 foot firs that are a problem. The top 1/3 at least.
Short wall mount instructions require bolting it to a wall stud, but it's pictured attached to a fascia (trim) board. Will fascia be secure enough? Wind? Snow?
My fascia is made out of a 2x8 and the bolts go through the 2" wood in to locations which would makes for hundreds and hundreds of lbs of holding strength. The unit weighs about 5-10lbs so I would say the only time I would worry about it would be during a hurricane down here in South Florida. I would at that point push the single release button on the unit, unplug it, wrap the connector for the weather and bring Mr. Bevel inside until after the storm. Your miles may very of course, this is just me. Hope that helps, Tim.
I installed it on the 2x8 fascia but to allow sufficient grip for the lag bolts I screwed on a second 2x6 board on the inside of the fascia. Works like a charm. Suggest GRK multipurpose 2 1/2" screws for this part.
My Gen 2 is on the roof as of yesterday. It moved around, but I have a question. Can the dish rotate as well as point up and down? This would allow it to find the best spot in the sky. If it cannot do both then I may need to find the best position for it myself. Again, can it rotate, and as move from it's downward position to facing the sky?
Absolutely. It is fully articulating. Pan and Tilt. But I would point it North when orienting it in the Northern Hemisphere and South in the Southern Hemisphere.
I now understand. I moved the dish to another place on the roof and saw it go into the straight up position. Then find north again. It does not rotate, but it can find another position after going into the straight up position first. So in effect it can rotate. I now know exactly which 240 foot fir tree I would have to cut down or trim out to get a clear view of the northern sky. Someone disassembled a dish on TH-cam. It is clearly able to move in most any position.
I have this same mount and I’m having trouble running the cable. How come you didn’t run the cable through the bottom of the mount? There is a cut out on the snap on cap for the wire. I noticed you just bypassed that. My issue is not pinching the cable when I stick the rod into the mount. It’s a weird set up. And I can’t mount mine.
So I am getting my Gen 2 tomorrow. Only took 1 week..whoooo. Anyway I downloaded the android app for starlink onto my android phone moto g7. I doesn't seem to work at all. It shows the oval view as you scan the sky, but it doesn't do anything else. I tried it on a cloudy day, so no bright sun, and still will not show me Obstructions. any Ideas? Like your TH-cams on this Starlink. I am excited to get it set up. Thanks Randy
Congrats!!! As for the software, I would delete it and download again. Something it wrong. You can use that software from inside the house. Make sure the software has access to you camera and locational information. GPS. Etc. might also be an issue.
I have the exact same problem with my iPhone 7. I removed the app and reloaded it, but no dofference. Then I loaded the app on my wife's iPhone SE and it worked flawlessly. Hence my older phone's software likely is the problem. My Gen 2 will be here tomorrow after 14 months on the list. I hope it was worth the wait...
Does anyone have the dimensions for the long wall mount template? Most important would be the height. I'm trying to decide which mount I need before my equipment arrives.
@@jcristina thank you for the response. I came up with a different option. For some reason I hadn't thought to repurpose the old dish network pole mount. It's short but I can extend it.
@JCristina The mount you're showing @ 2:00 minutes into the video; can you please tell me the exact inside diameter of that part? Much appreciated and thanks for the great video!
Another option to a roof mount is placing it on the ground, put some stakes in to hold it in place, or weight it down with decorative rocks. As long as you don't have anything blocking the view of the satellites you can place them anywhere, even out of site behind a wall or bushes. Easier to get to for repairs too. no ugly wire running down the side of your house and potential leaks at every hold down point. Worst case you have to bury the cable if you can't put the dish near your house. Same applies to all the ugly satellite dishes people mount to their roofs. I was a dealer and went to the Sony and RCA introductions and they recommended ground placement for the do-it-yourselfers.
I feel like the tradeoff for that DIY ground approach is the not-so-DIY trenching / invasive entry to the home that has to be done next. The tradeoff for the side-facia approach is usually a stupidly easy home-entry via the already-present air passthrough vents in the attic or something. I wouldn't know where to start to get my dishy above my fence, sidewalks, etc etc if I pole-mounted and had to head for my home (obviously everyone's layout is different). If I had a home office-shed or something where the cable was going 10 feet to my router, I'd definitely go for the ground pole-mount; Looks absolutely professional looking.
Starlink is the only satellite Internet provider that charges for antenna fittings and Ethernet connection...just because it can... @@TheBigChill1 spacecraft in LEO degrade fast, at 530km or so, without station keeping the constellation will have a very limited lifespan, which I think is part of the business model. Regarding the Outer Space Treaty of 1967, I sent see anything SpaceX is doing that would violate the fair and free use of space by all other entities who would seek to use it, I am much more concerned with China in that regard. I agree with your point about the beta being over at some point, look at Tesla now charing double (or more) for their badly executed self driving features. There are most certainly things I do not like about how Musk markets technology. I am in a location where my only internet connection is provided using 4g LTE, while it works well enough it is very limited in bandwidth and has low data caps. There are no terrestrial cable lines so I am left with just a couple of options, Hughesnet (expensive garbage), cellular 4G LTE, or starlink. Starlink is providing me with a great upgrade and it is competitive (after paying for the hardware) with other providers. I say all of this because I think that there will be a large market that is mostly undeserved that will be interested in this service. They need to get their act together in some ways, installation for example is not something most people can handle on their own. There are other things, in general as mentioned before, Musk is notorious for marketing underdeveloped products and letting the consumer test and help develop the solution for hom at their own expense. For me, it is a net positive so far though

Nice install unless you have gutters.
Yes. Then I would go with the long instead of short unit.
Our starlink didn't come with lag bolts lmfao
Wow!!!! Much have been a FRIDAY AFTERNOON boxing.. The folks in the plant want to get home for the weekend.. :)
Nice try to give the receiver your pet name, but it is lame. Your videos need to get to the point. Stop the "fluff." Drop the tea cup. Not impressed with the channel.
Many blessing to you and your family my friend. You are free to move on. I will charge you the same price if you stay or if you go.
I found his video helpful.
@@jcristina he’s just a hater, Mr Bevel is a very catchy name vs Dishy
