How to route the StarLink cable and make your install much easier. This is the most difficult challenge to get up and running on StarLink. Anyone can plug in the router and get a signal but crawling through the attic or basement gets hard and dirty very quickly. Plan your strategy and consider all options before making your move. Good luck and hope these tips help.

Awesome. I'm not exactly what you would call a skilled carpenter and don't have much, if any experience with carpentry tools. So I found the pre-drilled board absolutely genius!! That's exactly why I wanted to watch this video to determine what size of hole I need to feed my starlink cable through and never would have thought of just doing that at home to check!! I'm sure it's carpentry ABC but I never woulda thunk it!! Love the video!

I found that if you look carefully at the bottom of the router (version 2), you can see a light inside when it is powered. I agree they should have put at least two lights on the face, one that tells you it's powered on and another that tells you signal is received from dish to router.

Just received my starlink yesterday. I was in waiting list for basic home dish since November. So I canceled that and purchased the roam dish. Received it about 5 days later. Going to mount the dish on roof using old Dish tv mount . Looks like it is going to be much better than my crappy frontier!! 🙄Great video. Thanks

Thanks to your video I was able to figure out how to remove the cable from the antenna. The wire looked as if it was molded into the support tube, then I saw you pull it out!! I was leery of pulling on it till I watched you do it, Starlink instructions makes no mention at all as to how to simply remove that cable at the antenna end !! That smaller end is MUCH easier to fish through a wall than the 90 degree end connector !!

I intend on using mine on my fifth wheel. I will purchase a separate cable and install in in the fifth wheel. The antenna feet will sit in pins drilled to accept a clevis pin. I can then dismount the antenna while leaving the cable in place (exterior connector covered to protect it). I can then unplug the WIFI router and take it to the fifth wheel. We will see this spring!
Hopefully Starlink will have an opening for you at your RV destination. Once they achieve full mobility, I will be using it on the road as well. Appreciate your comment and thanks for watching.

I'm in the UK my kit arrived 2 days ago. I need to feed my cable through a double skin cinderblock then brick wall 18' up the wall under the eves so I'm going to have to tape it to my cable feeder. I have the long wall mount kit. Unfortunately it doesn't come with Rawl plugs.
I know why they made the cable the way they did but like you said you have to start feeding from the router location.they should make the cable the same on both ends then have an adapter that connects it to a female connector near the router. Thanks again.

Great video. I had an easier time of getting cable into the house than you, thank goodness. I went in to the stand up part of the attic then down through an interior wall near the top since router sits on a tall cabinet. I am also interested in using my Starlink for my RV but it would not be convenient to undo the cable install to have use of it with the RV. Looks like I will have to buy another 75' cable for $64 for the RV.

This is pretty helpful info, I installed a Starling dish and had teh whole cable routed from the dish to the house, before I figured out the cable could be removed from the dish itself and that was thinner...

How does it remove from the dish? Do you just pull? I feel like I'm going to break it 😂

My experience with computers and Ethernet started in 1993. I setup mine in 5 minutes at home, I’m in Oregon headed to Arizona each winter to avoid snow and got the RV version of Starlink. Mounting in an RV gives problems to most and should not be attempted by newbie’s. Permanently mounting on an RV is possible without disassemble of the system to move. TH-cam videos confirm this. Great job on your install young man! 😊
It’s possible to cut the cord and reconnect/splice it for hard to get thru places. Power over Ethernet (POE) is the cable used to realign the dish motor. In Oregon (Sunriver) 3 days after I ordered Starlink it was delivered .

Your original service must have been DSL. That's about how slow my DSL is. I usually go to a local Starbucks or Subway sandwich shop for my video uploads.

I'm kinda glad there are no lights on the front. Seems like every kind of tech I own has bright green or red or blue lights that I have to cover with tape or else they light my bedroom up at night. Just got my Starlink shipping notification yesterday! I live in the boonies of northeast AL so any speed I get over 2mbps will be better than anything I've had in the past 2 years
My router is in a room where we seldom go so lights on or off is not a problem but I know the issue with lights on electronics in my RV. Appreciate the comment and thanks for watching. BTW, you will love your Starlink. :)

They are a 1" split grommet for 3/8" cable the face of the router is Elons vision of the planetary rotational relationship of Earth and Mars everyone thinks it should light up but it doesn't.
This was a very good install video the kit your getting includes the 2 split grommets a 1" spade bit a 1/8" pilot bit a 7/8 " carboard tube, a tube of silicon and 5 cable clips. so now you need to wait for the Ethernet adapter.

The inside of the grommet is a ribbed section with I think 5 ribbed fins what I did was just cut down the ribbed fin to fit inside the hole.

To find out your speed in Megabytes, divide the Megabits numbers you see by 8. Hopefully at some time in the future the speeds will be symmetrical, the upload speed still sucks compared to fiber and cable, but if you cannot get either this is better than what you have for now.

You did a great job routing the cable and you said it is a headache doing it, you will seal up the holes using the grommets, you want to then undo all the work and take it on RV trips? I did my install mine professionally with the version 1 dish and it is staying there permanently as I do not want to do all that work again on the return of road trips.

Great Job! This is exactly what I was looking for. There isn't much video with someone running cable to the house.
1. Is your the RV version?
2. We are on the list for the actual Starlink satellite, so in the mean time we opt to buying the Starlink RV.
3. We just finished building our home and the last thing I want is more holes. So, the builder installed a box outside the home for any service provider to fish their cables and into our box in our closet.
So I am wondering if you have any insight as to how much of a cable do you need to run the cable from Starlink to house. From the looks of my setup, it goes to the side of the house to the attic and back to my closet. But the Starlink box needs to be in the middle of the house. is there a way to incorporate a router from my closet using a cat 5 to the Starlink box? Right now, I am running the cable under my patio door.
I do not have the RV Starlink. Hard to estimate how much cable you need. Some people has an outside box which converts the Starlink cable to a Cat 5 then run the Cat 5 to the inside router location. Hoping the Starlink that just got here, that we've been waiting about 15 months for, will serve the whole house. My room is an enclosed carport, and has a brick wall between me and the rest of the house.
I expect to be disappointed. That's just my luck.

@@LandingZoneHome Unfortunately it's a solid wall. There is a door on the other (previously external) brick wall leading into the house, but wifi has never played nice.
After looking around a little, I'll probably end up having to get a wifi range extender. But I keep reading that it cuts the speeds way down.
And there's no ethernet connection on the router. That surprised me.
Will check out your other Starlink stuff. I hope I can find a cheap and easy way to get what I've been waiting for since hearing about this thing 3+ years ago, and spending 15 months on the waiting list.

I've another question or two, if ya don't mind: Can the SL router do both ethernet and wifi at the same time? I'm finding conflicting info online.
Also, how much do speeds suffer through wired connections? I've read that it's as much as halved, or that it's barely noticeable.
@@Quazi-moto We use both at the same time and don't see any speed reductions. The speed is so good even if you did loose a little you wouldn't notice it.

Drilling my holes this evening. What size did the grommets in the kit end up being?
They are made to fit several sizes and worked perfectly for me and I used the hole size you see in the video. Thank you for watching.
I highly recommend using a grommet for the hole you drilled through the metal you can get various sizes. I installed a outside camera at my house and I ran my cable about the soffit those panels are really easy to remove with a vinyl unlocking tool , that way your cable is hide

How far away from the house did you have to be so the house did not block the dish view of the sky? Does the dish need to point north or etc? I would like to do a pole mount but not sure which direction / side of the house and how far away from the house? The house is over 20 feet tall. So a pole mount could be blocked by a 20 foot high house.
Dish about 10 ft from house but roof eve is only 1 story or about 9 ft. looking almost due north and almost straight up, you can check using the smartphone app. thanks for watching.

I had two that came with the Starlink Wall Kit but I have yet looked to replace that "tape" you mentioned. But I'll eventually get to a hardware store and check. Thanks for the comment and for watching.
To hide your wire better i would take a small paintbrush and I a can of white paint and go over the wire as you attach it to the building.

LoL my Starlink 2.0 gives me about 3mps down and 8 up. They insisted it’s the Ethernet connectors that are bad. Ends up they did “tests” on the equipment and determined the dish is failing. This is my second unit, first failed in less than a month. Not looking forward to exchanging the equipment again. Having second thoughts about the longevity of Starlink dish.

I have a trilevel house that is a nightmare to run cable. The ground floor is a slab and i have the second floor above . I have two separate attics that is a challenge to run cables to each other.

Great video, but I have to say. American houses and especially wiring is giving me the chills. I just don’t understand why anybody would build houses like a shed and run wires on the outside of the House. Blows my mind.

The cabling is bullet proof. They must use the same ingredients in their cable insulator that they use in the space X rocket hulls. I had it tightly shoved behind some aluminum flashing. I had decided to reroute the cabling. And it was stuck like how a fish hook gets stuck. Anyway my only option was to pull. And pull hard. AF! And the flashing did scratch the insulation. But the cable was fine. Works like a charm. I feel like you’d have to do some pretty terrible things to put that cable out of service.

When connecting to the base, can you run the wire throught the bottom of the base or no?
I no longer use the ground base and can't remember. On the pole mount you can so maybe the base is the same. Hope someone else can chime in and give you a better answer. The answer is yes - the wire can be routed through the bottom or the side. I also switched to the pole mount since I needed height to get above trees in my yard.

My walls are 3 ft thick brick. I soon found out the fun game of getting that proprietary cable through the wall to the outside. Having to make a 1" hole for a 6mm cable is pretty silly, I dont see why they didnt just stick with Cat6... but hey, now I have to spend £35 on a network adapter, so I guess thats why.

I’m so pissed off at Starlink. We just got our kit after waiting 10 months, and right out of the box the modem and or Ethernet cable was bad. Are there any companies that practice QUALITY ASSURANCE anymore? For the price I paid, I should NOT have ANY ISSUES. I’m not real happy, but the internet I have now (Viacom) SUCKS, and it’s expensive (60 gb for $160 a month, and I can’t stream so I have to pay for Direct Tv also so my wife can watch her “how to kill your husband” crime shows.) I live VERY RURAL so my options are extremely limited.
I feel your pain my friend. So far mine has been perfect but I do know sooner or later electronics do fail. Unfortunetely you apparently got a bad one right out of the box. I hope you have contacted customer support, I understand they are pretty good at replacing failed items but it does take a little time. I am not impressed with the engineering on this product, it feels like it was designed by an intern.
No builtin ethernet port, custom poe cable required, double rt angle cable connectors makes it extra difficult to feed through a wall, a power indicator that you can barely see, no power indicator on the antenna, no admin page for setting up the router..cant change the un & pw without using an app on your phone.
I am sure i missed a few..I hope they have better engineers working on the rockets.

There is no lights on the Router and it is one of the things that bugs me about the Starlink Router. Just the stupid light on the bottom and that doesn't tell you anything. Perhaps in the future they might work on it and learn from the error of their ways and fix that issue but for now it is what we have to work with. In all my years of working in IT I have never seen a router with no lights. Been doing this for 28 years and it is just Baffling. I also notices that Starlink router is one of the most difficult routers to setup as far as the network settings and security goes. I have never had any issues ever in the past setting up any other brand with a password for the network. Usually just type in the IP address from any web browser and it it lets you login to the admin interface but not with Starlink, it says to use the MOBILE APP. It is a poor system and they should work on that. We should be able to USE A PC to access the ADMIN panel if we want to.
