I'm also a mechanic at Yanmar in Japan, so it's not as hard as everyone Mr./Ms., but I know it's hard, so I want to say thank you for your hard work and shooting the video. Be careful not to injure yourself. Thanks to you, I like John Deere even more. Supreme.
Your commitment to every detail and patience in doing a job, no matter how hard it may be, shows the type of mechanic/technician you are! Hats off to you! I enjoy all your videos.
I'm a heavy duty tech up in Saskatchewan ,Canada, watching you out on the fields makes me want to bite the bullet and buy myself a mobile rig and go independent... decisions, decisions.... keep up the good work!
i feel your pain brother, been there myself. fixing stuff never goes as planned, always 1 more problem creeps up. your doing a great job. enjoy watching you at work.
My favorite way to flush the cooling system on these it to remove the drain fitting in the radiator and plumb a hose to the hot water pressure washer and run the engine while hot water flows from bottom to top of the cooling system. I usually pull the lower rad hose off once in a while to really drain it quickly too.
Hi Zeth,I’m a 60 plus old farmer and I do like the JD tractors, but from watching u , it seems that the JD tractors (newer models) r having a lot of engine problems, from water pump, fan drives, turbos, to exhaust issues. Seems to me that JD needs to redesign their engineers! These tractors are also low on hours, (running time). Kind of conserning. But then, u would not have anything for video content. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos.
This video is a great representation of all the problems field mechanics have to go through. I worked on pumping equipment in the field for 45+ years. I feel you brother. Keep up the great work.
I’d be disappointed if my tractor had this many defects at fairly low hours. Nice to watch a good mechanic. Funny seeing one of these new tractors start up with no smoke. Remember the old 8640 I had for a while, wow that thing used to rev up all by itself and blow a bunch of black smoke, I liked it.
You fellow are at the top of your game, it’s not a case of just replacing parts it’s knowing which parts to change, many men would have missed the turbo problem, something you spotted as soon as the tractor drove up the field. Great video and very interesting ❤
To help lift the fan drive in place you can use a small strap anchored to the charge air tube on one side and hook the other end to the crane on the other side run it across the bottom of the pulley essentially making a basket. The aluminum tube should be strong enough to support the weight. As you pick up on the winch line it will help lift the drive assembly. I use that the same set up to lift belly pans back in place on heavy equipment.
I would of bought 5 or 10 gallons of oil eaters and ran that straight in the coolant system and it would of removed 99%. That stuff works wonders. I’ve used purple power and super clean but nothing came close to oil eaters. Shops in my area order 55gallon of oil eaters every 6 months.
You my friend, have patience no end. Especially when thing(s) were going wrong one after another. Plus all the time having that playful mutt trying to trip you up! I love watching you work because of your vast knowledge & would trust you with my equipment any ole time. You also are a nice guy with a good sense of humor. Thanx . . .
Those sort of days soon become very long, it looks like Miss Pandora's Box was already open prior to your arrival, you start to wonder where it will all end. A new day and a new start makes a big difference. Good Job.
Awesome job!!! I use Cascade dishwasher powder dissolved in hot water to clean out oily/dirty cooling systems and have been very successful with it. Thanks!
Great Video of how a service call can go from decent to more repairs. I had to laugh at the dog that refused to give up on fetch. I would have loved to have a truck like yours when I worked on farm equipment. I have been in the Commercial HVACR Service Field for almost 25 years. It doesn’t look easier to work on now than the mid nineties. Be Safe. Thanks.
You truly are a Master Technician. And, your narration is as good as your mechanical skills. What amazes me is that during disassembly of anything on John Deere equipment, it involves removal of what seems like dozens (or more) fasteners of every size, length and description. It amazes me that they all go back where they belong without any "spare" ones left over. I would have to have a Fastener Wrangler to keep up with what went where. Great attention to detail.
I hate those can of worms jobs! Sometimes you just wonder when it will end, lol. I was a senior vehicle tech at FedEx Express and had 50 trucks in my fleet, retired now, don’t miss those days, hahaha! Keep doing the good work and the videos!
The Vari-cool fan set up has been a huge money maker for Deere and company. Parts parts and more parts. Even with scheduled maintenance they still have a propensity to go shit sack.
Those fan drives are a good time by yourself for sure! Don’t know if you have seen it before, but I have had two positive battery cables fail on my 9460R. The splice that feeds the master fuse opens up after heat soaking and you will have loss of voltage to the cab. Wasn’t the easiest thing to diagnose as it worked completely normal once it cooled down a few minutes.
Now I see why John Deere designates some as Master Technician, Holy molly. All of those problems but you kept your cool and repaired it right and with the pride of a Master Tech. God Bless. :-)
This is not Andy’s tractor farming fixing fabricating Syracuse New York lol! Probably not the exact number but close to it. Another good TH-camr with an excellent John Deere Mechanic he calls on quite often
I see it’s been mentioned, but you would think the tractor manufacturer would make it relatively easy to lift that hood off ( even if you had to use a lift like yours). I guess even one like big trucks have, would work for service. Great job 👍
Well, you know what cleanliness is supposed to be next to Zak! So thought your idea to backprime the coolant system with detergent a great plan - so many guys wouldn't have bothered. Also loved your evangelist comment - many lumps of green iron have been indeed blessed by your giant mits.
Huge on the farm service repair job, Zeth!!.. Great job as usual.. You had me laughing when you threw out your quote "hotter than Shania Twain in the 90's." 🤣 That was hilarious, and actually true!!.. Have a great weekend...😉
Head gasket failure due to too low of liner stand out height. And while the head is off you'll probably notice that the head is cracked. Gotta love 13.5's. I rebuild tons of them. Easy money for me but it sucks for the customers. And you better replace those leaking exhaust manifold gaskets while you're at it. I love your channel. Keep it up!
do you in general recommend staying away from the 13.5? many others say lots of issues w it too. all my big tractors have the 12.5. I know it has issues with injectors and cups. Any other issues you see a lot of? ty
The Vise Grip Garage of the ag world. Case in point, Derek even said ‘hotter than Sara Evans in the 90’s” in his last video. Your commentary and the knowledge definitely make videos entertaining. Also just had the sealed head bolts pip done on our CP690. Quite the job considering don’t have any overhead space on a cotton picker
I've watched numerous of your videos and I definitely have a to say that you are very Very good at your work no doubt about it Thanks for the these videos I like that you explain quite well the plan of attack so good in my opinion I'm saying hello from the pickle capital of North Carolina Brother
Those exhaust fittings and bolts get heat cycled either get super brittle or hard and snap easily. I used to deal with those a bunch. Glad you got spares
I will agree with you on the tools you listed that you said, you’re not a mechanic without those tools. Retired marine technician here. Agree 100%. But as I got older and the younger mechanics (notice I said younger mechanics, not young bucks) came into the field, the tool that most were missing was COMMON SENSE! Yes common sense! It was funny how they knew what was wrong, but didn’t have the common sense on what tool to use or how to approach the job and get it done in a reasonable amount of time. Those drill bits, are they Cobalt? For all my years in the marine environment I always used better quality HSS drill bits but always suffered. They dulled up fast with stainless etc. Then I switched to Cobalt, also pricey, but what a HUGE improvement. Only problem with them is they are a little more brittle, so you have to be a little more steady and don’t bind or they break quicker. They are more suited for drill presses. Oh, and by the way, I had the magnets, from 1-5 pound pull, but bad part with marine environment is a lot is Stainless Steel.
I had a 5065M. I know it’s a small one with that 5 cylinder POS engine in it. Had less than 1000 hrs on it. 4 oil coolers replaced and was leaking coolant from the front timing cover. I was sooo happy when that thing left. No more 5 series tractors for me.
Hi, may I suggest using a reverse drill bit with your drill switched on reverse, many times you do not even have to re-tap the hole and the broken plug spins out in reverse

(((Don’t know if I used the right name it but I know what you had to do at least))). So you got things done and just have the turbo to go, but you said it was not as noisy now. So maybe you will not replace that or not. Up to you I guess. Big operation on this one/wow. You got you way worked thru it so the farmer can use it for now. I am amazed at how you got the immediate issues taken care of away from the shop and going again. Will be waiting to hear on the turbo situation ZK. Thanks for sharing all of this with us. 50% of maintenance causes 50% of maintenance sometimes. Great job!

I agree with you on that, I’ve heard negative comments regarding the R series.
This video is a great representation of all the problems field mechanics have to go through. I worked on pumping equipment in the field for 45+ years. I feel you brother. Keep up the great work.
Brother I've worked in truck shops for 25 years switched over to equipment about 7 years ago and my crane is the best tool i have
I’d be disappointed if my tractor had this many defects at fairly low hours.

I live in a country a long way away, the farmers are very lucky to have someone like you to work on their very expensive machinery !
Thanks 👍
You're a braver man than I am, saying "that wasn't even a challenge" when the machine can hear you? That's a risky gamble...
I have no fear lol
I had to look this 9510 R up. $381xxx and 510 HP. What a monster! Its nice you found/ fixed the problems before they escalated! Go Green!

Another fine video on the green carnage for sure. Keep up the good work, those farmers need you!
It's nice to see someone young with a good work ethic.
We can all see why you are called the Master Tech. 😊
Shania reference was awesome. I hadn't heard that one.
She was so hot in the 90s, she was downright annoying..the media overdoes everything..it calmed down, i still like her
I believe Derek at VGG was the "founder" of that line originally 😉
I hate those can of worms jobs! Sometimes you just wonder when it will end, lol. I was a senior vehicle tech at FedEx Express and had 50 trucks in my fleet, retired now, don’t miss those days, hahaha! Keep doing the good work and the videos!
The Vari-cool fan set up has been a huge money maker for Deere and company. Parts parts and more parts. Even with scheduled maintenance they still have a propensity to go shit sack.
my 12.5 L tractors have the thermal fan clutch. Does it go bad often too and how do you test it?
Those fan drives are a good time by yourself for sure! Don’t know if you have seen it before, but I have had two positive battery cables fail on my 9460R. Now I see why John Deere designates some as Master Technician, Holy molly. All of those problems but you kept your cool and repaired it right and with the pride of a Master Tech. God Bless. :-)
You have the patience to deal. I think the dog and the ball thing was a crack up but surely a patience tester. Good job. Great attitude.
Thanks 👍
Wow. A few different issues on this tractor. Hopefully we can see the final repair on turbo and manifold
This is not Andy’s tractor farming fixing fabricating Syracuse New York lol! Probably not the exact number but close to it. Another good TH-camr with an excellent John Deere Mechanic he calls on quite often
Good job Zeth. Unless I’m blind, those filters say fitted date 03/2021.
I see it’s been mentioned, but you would think the tractor manufacturer would make it relatively easy to lift that hood off ( even if you had to use a lift like yours). I guess even one like big trucks have, would work for service. Great job 👍
Dish washer tablets work wonders , no foam. Top vid as always
Liquid Cascaide works best
The repairs in this video were good, but the commentary was just top-notch buddy😂
Well, you know what cleanliness is supposed to be next to Zak! So thought your idea to backprime the coolant system with detergent a great plan - so many guys wouldn't have bothered. Also loved your evangelist comment - many lumps of green iron have been indeed blessed by your giant mits.
Awesome video keep up the good work Eugene from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks 👍
It would be interesting if you included the year the tractor was manufactured and the total hours of operation.
Shania Twain In 90's is a good one ;)
Another great video I find them so interesting worked on farms in the UK for 30 years driving tractors and servicing them keep them coming
You Make my Day Explaining everything you do and how to Perform the Tasks!
I’m Retired Now but still want to do things except my Heart won’t let me!
You know how to edit, what to include, what to cut, matching commentary to extreme skill and concern.
Im interning at a John Deere dealership this summer. I hope to become a tech like you some day.
It goes to show that good tools make every job easier!
Nice job!
Huge on the farm service repair job, Zeth!!.. Great job as usual.. You had me laughing when you threw out your quote "hotter than Shania Twain in the 90's." 🤣 That was hilarious, and actually true!!.. Have a great weekend...😉
That was a very tricky job to do ..good job you have your crane to help out with those heavy parts .👍👍
Looks like you've made a new friend!
When I worked at a JD dealership in the 80’s, I remember someone saying “John Deere paint tougher than Cockshutt steel”. 😂
You're producing some awesome content. This was more of a realistic job.
I appreciate that!
Really enjoy these videos👍. Hats off to all you mechanics out there keep this machinery rollin🫡🫡👍
wow alot or repairs for a tractor with 1500 hours

It is funny to see you working as the customers dog supervise in the background!
Always always an amazing job!!!
I've watched numerous of your videos and I definitely have a to say that you are very Very good at your work no doubt about it
Thanks for the these videos
I like that you explain quite well the plan of attack so good in my opinion
I'm saying hello from the pickle capital of North Carolina Brother
Good video it’s nice to get out of the shop from time too time, ( only if the Weather is nice ) and don’t get too dirty, awesome job
Those exhaust fittings and bolts get heat cycled either get super brittle or hard and snap easily. I used to deal with those a bunch. Glad you got spares
Wow lots wrong with the tractor. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching

There is no such thing as common sense. Absolute fallacy.
You doing exllant keep the good work up I like how you explain on what wrong and how you going to fix it step by step
Another excellent video Zeth! Great job!😀👍
u doing great 👍 my friend from one john deere technicians to another john deere technicians
Get a set of CCW drill bits sometimes the drilling will backout the broken part.
The dog thought he found a buddy to play with .
Get the oil cooler in for pressure testing tonight to eliminate the cooler from being a cause -or not. The Pandora Box could go deeper yet. 39:58
I had a 5065M. I know it’s a small one with that 5 cylinder POS engine in it. Had less than 1000 hrs on it. 4 oil coolers replaced and was leaking coolant from the front timing cover. I was sooo happy when that thing left. No more 5 series tractors for me.
Those matco hyper steps are badass
That machine doesn't look that old for all that damage
Rapid-Tap works great when making new threads.
Hi, may I suggest using a reverse drill bit with your drill switched on reverse, many times you do not even have to re-tap the hole and the broken plug spins out in reverse
Good job and good patience when I’d be swearing!!!
I think he edits out the swearing
You should fab a small hoist that secures over the top of the engine to make your work easier and safer.
Another masterful job!
Thanks again!
Thanks for another great video ZK. It was most interesting and informative and enjoyable.
Wow. Lots going wrong with this beast. Never did heard how many hours on it. Looked it up. Expensive beast around the $385,000 mark and 510 hp-wow.

I am amazed at how you got the immediate issues taken care of away from the shop and going again. Will be waiting to hear on the turbo situation ZK.
Thanks for sharing all of this with us. You are an amazing technician ZK.
You take care.
The Iowa farm boy. Steve.
Thank you!
When I worked for Cummins in the late 1970's they had us use Tri Sodium Phosphate for cleaning oil in coolant.
What a beast of a tractor. Well done, bud!
The dog tried to tell you, that you needed a break and play awhile.
No...Im not throwing the ball again.....oh yes you are! Good stuff.
Great job video and content - never easy
I guess the oil cooler did test bad? Or did I miss that report. Love your channel!!
We are going to get it tested.
Sometimes I have good luck using left handed snap on drill bits
Cannot believe how calm you are ZK. 'Did that just snap? Dang it'. I would have had the swear dictionary out and read it A to Z. I wish I had your temperament.
Those that throw tantrums over every event they have no control over don't last long. Nobody likes being around a toddler at work.
Another awesome vid! Wow,what a job! Keep the deere's running! Stay safe
I'm curious how many hours that tractor has on it. The fuel filters marking had awful low hours if that is an indication of the low hours on this tractor.
You are a meany not throwing the Ball😂😂😂😂😂
Good diagnosis all about selling Green Iron Parts 😅😅😅😅😅
Keep the green iron moving Zeth💪
It's always stressful to have a multi problem machine and more time than not you will encounter the unexpected! Great job keep that struggle bus rolling!
Thank you very much for your efforts and hard work , thanks for sharing your experiences with us , Yours from Egypt
As a welder,I absolutely love JD equipment. Everything they make is just so freaking gorgeous! I was disappointed that old Mike Mitchell (TH-camr from Sask) got a Case to pull his seeder this season. I’ll still watch his videos, but there’s just no sex appeal!
Brilliant video, great work from an No 1 mechanic.
Another satisfied customer.
Doing Great!! Really like your T/S skills!! to think, you use to do a lot of that work without a crane!! They do come in handy!! Oh yeah, I've had to work late on a Friday night then come back into work first thing on a Saturday!! It's no fun but somebody has to do it!! Stay safe!!
Loved the Video! You taking and talking us through the process was really enjoyable to watch, would love to see you replace that turbo aswell :D Next time u'll go there, consider taking a chewing toy for the Doggo with ya, so the Bossman stays happy u ain't "wasting" your precious time :P (Doggo time are hard working hours though)
