I know everyone’s upset, but you have to remember... two of the most famous and beloved musicals of all time, Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera, are both based on books. They’re not originals.
I mean, I wish we were getting some new musicals with original plotlines and concepts, but really I’m more excited about just getting new musicals, to be entirely honest.
I’m stoked for Hercules. And Beetlejuice will probably be good.

Don't forget that Wicked, one of the most famous Broadway hits of all time, was also based on a book.
Um..most shows are based books...
I feel like when something is based on a book though there is more room for interpretation. But when you base something on a cult movie, you’re handling a lot more expectations from audience members as well as images and actors that already exist. I wish more broadway shows were being “inspired” by stuff instead of being an identical copy with songs stuck in. And I personally feel currently so many musicals that seem to all be in the same vein of theatre are all coming at once. I just wish there was more variety so that the season is more balanced.
Nothing wrong with basing shows off of fresh material, but when that material is only being used for commercial ideas, that's when the show becomes something unoriginal

Hercules is such an underrated Disney movie with great music, so I bet the musical is going to be amazing. Also can't wait for Pan's labyrinth!

I have to admit, I didn't know that most of these were becoming Broadway shows... but I'm honestly not surprised by most of them. The Princess Bride though... that'll be hit or miss for sure.

I have been waiting for Hercules the musical for forever. Just to see zero to hero live
I can't believe Hercules didn't become a musical sooner. It has great songs, interesting characters, amazing costume options and it even already has narrators! They could do so many creative things with the muses! Although, I suppose the good thing is that they can make it even better now. Hope it shows the same quality as the new Frozen Broadway musical did because that one really impressed me. Very excited for them to bring one of my favourite Disney movies to Broadway.

Even though Tracie Thoms has a minor role as Andie's friend Lily, she was in Rent! She can sing her ass off! I'd for sure see this as a musical.
I like the idea of this show and all, but I’m not sure Elton John is suited for the show (I kinda wanted Rachel bloom, jack dolgen, and Adam Schlesinger to do it, since they write the music for crazy ex girlfriend, which was co created by the writer of the devils wears Prada movie.). Idk
Well it's up to the actors of they want to do that or not, and acting on the stage is waaaaayy different from acting in a movie. Stage acting requires more skill, in my opinion, because the audience sees everything and not just the camera angle you want them to see.

My Mothers Would Be Thrilled She’s FANTASTIC. Ugg what a voice. When she sang Firework I was on the floor. The whole show is amazing-would highly recommend. The dancing, the costumes, the singing!! The whole thing is spectacular and funny.

I very much agree that originals are amazing, and tend to be more groundbreaking than adaptations, but do we have to choose? Movie adaptation musicals, when well produced, can be great too!

@@bareabopopera3091 Just look at a lot of Disney's Broadway stuff. Not every one of them is a success, but when they hit, they hit it hard. Or... the Spongebob Squarepants Musical. That thing was the LEGO Movie levels of it had no right to be that good.
Knowing broadway. They probably won’t have a dance number to thriller, but they’d write a song to replace it.
That would be up to Michael Jackson's estate to give permission to use the song.

The Devil Wears Prada could literally have been a musical since the beginning because of the actors in the movie haha. It's one of my favourite movies ever, the Rockwell adaptation was really good and I'm so excited to see the Broadway adaptation!!
I did hear that "Beetlejuice" is coming to Broadway, but didn't know "Hercules" is coming, too. My concern for those two shows are how are the Sandworm from "Beetlejuice" and the Titans from "Hercules" are gonna work on the Broadway stage.
David Graham I’m concerned about how they’ll cast these shows-they need big, experienced actors for adaptations of cults and it seems like they’ll be double booked
King Kong is a 2000lb puppet that takes 24 people to operate. Broadway always finds a way.

The Sandworm makes about two appearances (at least in the DC run) and it is really well made. However, the second time we went to see the show- it did have some minor technical difficulties and wouldn't slide out to the stage without some force.
I think the Sandworm would be great on the stage.
Unfortunately, the head of Disney Theatrical Productions claimed no Hercules musical is in the works. Alan Menken could've just been sharing his desire to bring Hercules to Broadway.

The Notebook again?! A walk to remember is more suitable. It already has a kickass soundtrack and score.
It’ll be good if it has a good cast, and people are already gunning for Laura Osnes (Cinderella, Bandstand, Grease Revival), including herself. I just wanna know who’ll play the male lead (Derek Klena?).
In Insta and Twitter, I saw a lot of Osnes+Jordan. Scrolling through it, it's mostly LAURA OSNES + *insert young famous Broadway here* And honestly, I couldn't agree more. Laura is one of their best choices.
Clicked in hopes to see Hercules and I wasn't disappointed.
I think all this musicals based on movies are starting to be way too many. I mean, it´s ok to have a musical based on a movie and that, but I´d like to see more original content and not things like "Mean girls", "Clueless" or even "The Notebook". They´re ok I guess but meh.
I recommend you guys Hadestown. It´s going to Bway on March I think. It´s based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice but it´s really really original and with really good music.

Being in Tarzan (the musical) has WRECKED me. Everytime I hear "Tarzan," "Jane," "Terk," (I was Terk) or any other character from Tarzan, I immediately give whatever the source was my FULL attention. Whenever I hear any song from the show/movie, it's just muscle memory to get up and start performing my dance routines. Everytime I see my costume from the show hanging up in my closet, I shed a tear. Help.

I wish that people would start making original musicals rather than base them off shows and movies and don't get me wrong I thinks its fine but I just would really like to see more stuff originating on stage.

Will you guys chill? I saw Dove Cameron on Hairspray, and she was great, and I also love clueless so I know why are you afraid of the show not being good but c’mon, you should wait until you see it to criticize it. I personally loved the trailer, but a trailer it’s not the whole show
And btw, a few things that people were scarier that’d turn out bad on the first looks, but we’re actually great: She-Ra, Mean Girls (to some ppl)

I seen the bodyboard musical in 2016 when it was on the UK & Ireland tour and honestly it was amazing. Seen stuff from Clueless and just looks like a high school production not a musical ready for broadway
i saw king kong last saturday and i wasn’t expecting much except the puppet but HOLY CRAP i’ve seen a lot of shows and this show definitely had an amazing set and the 20 foot puppet really took the cake. i liked the score and LOVED the choreography. if you can grab tickets see it! i will definitely be seeing it again. and i am not the one to see shows twice (which says a lot). Christiana Pitts was amazing and came outside after to talk to the audience members, she is so sweet. GO SEE KING KONG

I heard the movie Beaches is also becoming a broadway show but it’s all to be announced with a cast being released since 2015. So I don’t know when it’s happening but I’m kinda excited for it 🤷🏼♂️

This got me thinking what are some of my fave movies I'd love to see on Broadway. Thinking Practical Magic or Starship Troopers for a more comedic one. Apparently they are doing Death Becomes Her with Kristin Chenoweth playing Madeline. THAT I need to see!

There's already a stage adaption of Moulin Rouge, it's called "Baz" and it's a show I saw in Las Vegas a few years back. It's not just Moulin Rouge but the music is very predominate and makes up most of the musical numbers. The concept being that it's a musical medley of all of Baz Larmen's movies (Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge, and Romeo & Juliet with a little bit of Strictly Ballroom) with the characters, story lines and songs all mixed together. It was an amazing show.
Las Vegas isn't the same as Broadway though.
