I'd have included Waitress. It's definitely not a movie you watch and think "this would be perfect as a musical" and yet it works, and it's incredibly moving and Sara Bareilles did an amazing job writing the music!

How in the world did Heathers end up from Off West End to West End but stayed Off Broadway?!
I'm fine if they skip the Broadway run and move straight to the touring company (and come to LA or Vegas)

Pretty Woman JUST started previews so I didn’t expect it to make the list. But I was curious as to why Legally Blonde, Mean Girls, Carrie, Waitress, School of Rock... there’s so many better options that would’ve suited the list just as well.

Catch Me If You Can is one of the most underrated musicals ever! Norbert Loe Butz performance was outstanding and don't even get me started about Aaron Tveit and all with music by the same composer who did the Hairspray soundtrack. It's fantastic and closed way too soon.

Frozen, Producers, Charlie and most Disney movies were practically musicals already. I think they were going for movies that don't seem (at first glance) to lend themselves to intermittent fits of singing.

And the Charlie musical they took notes from the Tim Burton movie ( which had no characters singing)
I agree with most, but, with the Disney movies they already have songs in them. Almost all Disney movies have intention on broadway. Also same with producers and Charlie.

Interestingly done by the same person. I personally like Heathers better, partially because of the insane amount of commitment that was put into incorporating the movie dialogue into the show almost verbatim.
Mia Jean Laurence O Keefe is great, but Heathers grossly romanticizes mental illness, suicide, and abusive relationships
110% correct. I have some definite mixed feelings about it, especially with the current climate around gun violence in schools. I think I just like the music and some of the artistic elements better.

I know it’s not technically a movie, even though The Lightening Thief was based more on the book, but was anyone surprised Death Note wasn’t on this list?
If it were in English, it totally would be. But this list was aimed at an English speaking audience. However, the Death Note musical is pretty awesome (and last I checked, available on TH-cam).
Tom Leonard I agree. Death note shows actual proves good anime musicals can be made. Personally makes me wish there were more anime musicals. Admit an Evangelion or Spirited Away musical would be awesome.

The version on TH-cam is in Japanese with English subtitles. And Ryuk is played SUPER over the top and is the best thing in it - I get the impression that the actor portraying him is big in Japan.

Livvy LaaLaa legally blonde isn’t surprising to most people because it’s campy, fun, and the movie gave so much spunk and character that it was almost destined for broadway

I was surprised to find out that Ghost became a musical and let me just say, it became one of my favorites and I saw Nigel from So You Think Can Dance in the audience. Not kidding

Me too. On paper, you wouldn't expect a musical based on an 80's black comedy which involves two teenagers murdering their clsssmates, and setting them up as suicides to work. But thanks to charismatic performances and rocking tunes, the musical really pulls it off!

A film was surprised that was turned into a musical is the Dutch film, Soldaat van Oranje, which translates to Soldier of Orange. It's about a couple of students in the Netherlands in the second world war and the choices that they have to make. Both the film and the musical are really good. The musical has been running for about eight years and it doesn't seem to stop anytime soon. Eight years are long for a Dutch musical, in which is spoken Dutch, of course. We're only a tiny country after all.

The Lightning Thief Musical, the first musical I fell in love with. Heathers was, maybe, the tenth.
If American Psycho wasn’t number one I was gonna lose it. Saw it on its limited run in london with Matt Smith... was incredible. One of my favourite books, films and musicals of all time 😍...

Okay people are gonna hate me for saying this but I dislike the Heathers musical. Especially how they represented Veronica and JD, they just felt so different than the movie. Veronica was scared of JD and didn’t love him by the end of the film and watched him die with no expression on her face. In the musical however she was almost sad about his death. JD is also more sympathetic in the musical but in the film he is psychotic and I love it. I didn’t really like the idea of going more into depth about JDs mums death in the musical, it felt mysterious in the movie and I liked it.
But hey that’s just my opinion.
I understand this but I actually loved how they made JD more sympathetic. I feel like that made him and Veronica's relationship a lot more realistic and interesting. I feel like since JD was just a teenager, giving him a reason for why he was the way he was makes him a much more layered and complicated character.Though I could totally see your point, considering the fact that the original movie was based more on high school nihilism which is what made such a bold move in the first place. I personally love them both for different reasons. But even if you don't love the plot difference, you gotta admit the songs are AMAZING!

I saw the original cast of Ghost in london.I was hugely skeptical but it blew me away and is in my top 5 musicals
I saw Bring it on on Broadway it was FANTASTIC! I also saw Mary Poppins on broadway as well it was incredible!
The Lightning Thief musical is actually going on a US Tour in 2019 If anyone wants to see it, it's amazing!!!
