I always thought Sharpay was the protagonist. She's a student in theatre, a subject that’s underfinanced and unappreciated, then all of sudden, Troy and Gabriella, who come from clubs that are expensively financed and are looked highly upon (Adcademics and Sports), want to be in the musical because it seems "cool" and then Sharpay's the villian because she doesn't want anyone getting in the way of her passion.

Agree I know that she does not seem like a realistic character, but she is, she reminds me of a Slytherin or maybe a Ravenclaw she gets to where she wants to be whatever it takes which I somewhat respect not saying that what she did was right but let’s be realistic here most of the time you can’t get far in life without doing at least one thing that might not be considered “right”
100% disagree with sharpay evans. Poor lass just wanted her moment that was constantly stolen off her when there was nothing else she could do. She'd been doing theatre since she was tiny. Poor girl does not belong with these bullies.
That is correct i also liked Sharpay . All she wanted was to perform on stage Gabriella and Troy had sience and basketball and unlike Sharpay theater wasn't their priority .

She gave Gabriella a vocal exercise, she tried to give Troy the chance at a good scholarship, she gave her brother a trophy despite the fact that she won it through her own hard work, and not to mention that she worked as a mentor to her high school after graduation in a department that pays peanuts for it. Shall I give you more reasons to why I don't think she's a mean girl

Everyone who said Sharpay is a good character- uh yeah no? She tried to keep the "status quo" the way it was because she didn't like people who were one way *possibly* being another, so she bullies Troy and Gabriella, as well as Kelsey who had the play's songs written one way and she and Ryan had to make it completely theirs because spoiled brats like them need their world to solely revolve around them. And what THEY want for everyone, not giving people a choice. When it came to HSM2, she was only trying to win Troy over because she was convinced he would change his mind about Gabriella, and nothing more. She always flirted with him even though it was clear he wanted none of it and it made him uncomfortable (ya that's called harrassment), and she always tried to do everything to sabatoge his friendships and relationships bc she had a crush. If you ask me, she's a solid mean girl trope. Not a "good character who had the new kids steal her thing bc they thought it was cool". Dude, no.

Can someone tell me the name of the movie which starts like this: a popular girl getting ready for high school day, she looks into her wardrobe and finds new matching skirt and jacket to wear, she is tall and gorgeous, she is putting her parfume etc..and her parents keeps shouting her name so she would come down and drive her sister to school, because as usually they are going to be late..she comes downstairs and then she says something bad I think..and her parents are like you are rude...or what is she wearing to school...idk and she says bye and sits in car and puts her lipstick and then they drive off. By the way she has brown hair..and then they come to school where she meets with her friends and boyfriend.
