    I like it.

If your having trouble with vibration on the flail it's out of balance somewhere. The only soluton for that is take the drum out and take to a driveshaft place and check the balance. A good operating flail mower is a cuts and operates better than most other mowers.

I hadn't thought about a driveshaft shop! That sounds like a fall/winter project. Thanks!

The tractor industry standard for mowing is that it takes 5 hp per foot mowed. This is probably for worst-case situations, as I am able to get reasonably good mowing results on tall grass with a 10 hp gas rotary mower (pulled by home-built electric tractor) that cuts 3 feet wide, but this is still 3.3 hp per foot with an inefficient gas motor. So, in terms of hp and energy consumption per foot, I would say you are doing very well with your power requirements.
Regarding the vibrations, I suspect that the flail mower shaft is out of balance, or you have lost a knife (or part of one), which will put the shaft out of balance. "Made in Poland" did a TH-cam video on building a flail mower, and he invested a lot of time on shaft balancing. My impression is that this is an inherent problem in flail mowers.
Tire and mower knockdown are inherent problems in field mowing. Sometimes living with rough cuts and grass pop-up is easier than finding or designing a front mount mower wider than your wheels.

Thanks for the comment! I replaced all the blades so that's not it. All of the factory balance weights are still present, too. I've had the drum running at speed and watched it (terrifying!) and it doesn't look bent. But yeah, it's clearly out of balance and that's a shame.
As for hp. It's generally accepted that a 1hp electric motor is equivalent to 2-3hp gasoline hp. Not sure what the diesel equivalent is. So I was not surprised at the results.
While it won't be easy to design a front mounted wide mower, I like doing that kind of thing so it's on my list of stuff to do!
      Thanks for watching.

Remove all the blades from the drum, then spin at full power to see if the drum is balanced. If the vibration is gone, then your blade mounting is the issue. Each blade and hanger should weigh the same, with equal number of blades on the mounting bars.

Yeah, that's really the only way to do it. I think that's probably a fall/winter project! Thanks

not a good design,,,,implement is too far ahead of the steering axle and frame and any small side motion is amplified and it wobbles all about,,,if it were mounted 20 inches closer to the axle, it would be lots more stable,,,however, the size of the blade and frame requirements wont allow this,,,thanks for the demo

@@bill45colt nowhere in the video did I say I have a problem with wobbles. Would moving the mower 20" closer to the frame help with the vibration or help cut grass that the tires smash down?

@@billbayer5526 You didnt mention that but i saw it. The only thing that would help with grass run over is to place the wheels behind the mower. Im in favor of a front mower since you can stick it under shrubs to trim,,,im also in favor of it being some bit wider than the main frame and tires.
Also helping with trim but maybe too wide for narrow gates, or loading on narrow trailer, or if you go over humps or terraces or into ditches the deck may dig into the rising slope on the far side. One tool wont fit all jobs, as you already know, and no design is perfect for each situation. What might help is to call your local paving company and a few days after a rain, before the ground is hard, have them come out with a medium roller to press down the small rocks and imperfections in your yard. I did that three years ago, My mowed lawn now looks smoother and the ride is better at high speed,,,thanks for the video
