As always I don't expect to see many of the vehicles I see on Fully Charged here in Canada but it's nice to know that somewhere ... science continues to move forward.
Yes, the door seems to swing up and out. My question is, can you control how far the door swings out in a tight car space or does it just open until it hits the car next door?

I can charge at home because I have solar panels. That's the kind of car I'm waiting for. Hopefully made by Toyota because I love that brand. Very reliable.

2:03 - A bit of a gaff. The vents do not "open at speed" but rather stay closed for aerodynamics. My Ioniq 6 has these and they open at low speed and/or when charging for air flow to cool the battery. Generally at speed there is plenty of air flow underneath to cool it without the venting system.
@@_Rafiki. wrong. The car is designed for top aerodynamics (drag coefficient of 0.22). That is with the vents closed. Opening the vents f**ks with the air flow.
Drag co efficient is impressive. If we’re going to focus on efficiency though why not drop some of the show pony stuff? Ditch the scissor doors, flashy interior lights, self drive and LiDAR sensors etc, glass roof and just strip some of the unnecessary weight out of it. I reckon they could save a heap if they got it a bit more back to basics.

A half-yearly check-in with multiple cars to look at trends/progress seems far more sensible, and using someone in Asia to cover all of Asia makes far more sense than in-depths on cars we'll never see.

At last the truth is out, and EVs are dead. EV manufactures are going bankrupt like Polestar, and also charging company's are also going bankrupt. It's great to see we are at a end of al this false lies a propaganda about EVs. Long live real cars, cars with engines, car that you can drive and have fun doing so.
7:10 and nice roof you get there! I guess it getting hot on sunny days ;) and no heat-pump is strange... don't they have an air condition systems? i.e. heat pump?
The roof has auto light sensing dim function, so it's actually significantly better than the same roof on the Tesla (tested it in person with 2 cars next to each other). Heat Pump only on top end, but If you ask me, all EV's should have the heat pump. The Heat Pump is more than just aircon hot air, the heat pump provides the BMS (Battery management system) heating to ensure it stays within its operating temperature. So when it's cold, as we know, battery drains rapidly, so heat pump keeps it in its optimal temperature to maintain charge. And every charge loss to cold temperature, is the same as charging the battery for another cycle, the more that happens, the quicker it loses SOC. So imo, all EV's need a heat pump.
This top spec with the more powerful motor and 710 km CLTC rated range costs 340k RMB (around 47k USD), but it is obviously not the best value trim. There is a less powerful version which still has the 710 km CLTC range and 800V fast charging for 260k RMB, which is a far better buy. Or you can go with smaller battery slower charging base trims with 560 km CLTC range for as low as 220k RMB. Which sounds cheap, but this car is already 6 MONTHS old and have therefore being outclassed by newer better EV sedans in the ultra competitive Chinese market. I don't think it will actually sell that well, given that Geely just dropped a bomb in China by releasing their brand new Galaxy E8 which starts at just 176k RMB. Plus the TOP TRIM Galaxy E8 with dual motor and over 500 hp as well as 660 km CLTC range only goes for 230k RMB, the equivalent of 32k USD, which is mind bogglingly cheap.
3:00 Charge 450km (279miles) of range in 15min. Only one article lists the full range, ev.motorwatt and it claims 710km (441miles). Obviously real world will be a bit lower, but it's still impressive if true.
Rule of thumb, CLTC converted to Actual real world (not WLTP, not EPA), is about 30% penalty. So expect about 500km of actual use on the top spec, then the other specs would be around 420 km and 350 km respectively.

If anyone is interested for this FAQ..... Q: What's under the bonnet? A: A "Frunk" storage, similar to the Tesla models. Q: But what's ACTUALLY under the "Bonnet" traditional terms? A: A single motor RWD, producing 250KW / 430NM, 0-100kmh in 4.9sec Q: What "Self Driving" features does it have? A: The system is Level 2++ system. It is however capable of performing all functionality as FSD including Start-Stop, Steering, Overtaking, Undertaking, navigation on-off ramp functions. However, due to legislative restriction more so than hardware ability, It's "NDA" function (the one that reads red lights and stops etc), is disabled majority of the driving as it isn't allowed to be used in most areas, except for specific testing conditions. But it is capable to do so. The vehicle also has remote parking and summoning functions. Remote as in, you need to be in the vehicle and it parks itself. Remote as in, it will memorise your parking spot and you hop out and it drives itself. And also summons the vehicle to you as well. Q: What Battery Technology does it have: A: 15min / 450km range charging speed, around 3C. It is lower than the Extreme charge on the Hyper HT (SUV Version) that does the same 450km range, in just 10 mins. The battery is also a Magazine 2.0, with safety tested beyond BYD's "needle" test. They fired an assault rifle piercing 3 battery packs and no fire. Each battery cell contains its individual suppression system, rather than an overall. So when one pack breaches, the individual suppression system acts immediately to stop and control the heat and therefore, fire. Q: How does it go in the Snow/Slippery surface as a RWD? A: The vehicle has been engineered to include what they call "Eagle Grip" ESC system. If you accelerate the vehicle on ice, with NO hands on steering wheel, the vehicle will control itself and go straight. (Was proven on their WeChat channel) Q: What else does it have? A: Not that it's important..... but you can plug in your Nintendo Switch and play from the 14.6" infotainment screen and play......? Karaoke is standard....... Q: Is the 2m+ Sky Curtain going to be an oven like the Tesla? A: Without actual cover, it will always be hotter. However, it has automatic light sensing and the ceiling will auto dim as required to refract light and heat. Q: Those scissor doors aren't for "My" driving or garage or whatever? A: The scissor doors are an option, you can opt in for the standard swing doors (Front and Rear) if you like. Q: What about the price? A: Without knowing the details, but the vehicle in it's RMB format starts from AU$50k-$70k over it's variants. Q: What sound system does it have? A: It is equipped with an Atmos Dolby certified 23-speaker system. Yes, 23. It even has speakers on your head rests.

And it could accelerate 0-60/100 in say 8 seconds and I would be fine with that. Maybe it could also have a battery that is as easy to swap as NIO offerings, so when people want to repair the battery in 12-13 years they should not have to disassemble the whole car. And maybe we need a manufacturer who would just sell parts to 3rd parties to repair, not lock it all up and charge exorbitant repair fees.

This seems like a M3 upgrade that Tesla should have done. I like how they used the good things of a M3 and put their own spin on it. Nice car.
I watched this fullscreen on my Model 3 and I'm 188 cm tall so I had a very good view for comparing both. That is not Model S sized, it's a little bit smaller than Model 3. And "like a rabid dog sniffing for truffles"... my man, what a tortured simile.
yeah - I felt Elliot kinda lost his way with that simile, and was looking for an exit, any exit, to end it :D
I believe he is right. If some of that air goes through the car then there is less air resistance
@@_Rafiki.
@@_Rafiki.
Going forward, there will be no more Back to the Future( basics of the past ). Self driving is the goal and Lidar is there to prepare and assist when Regulations are in place. These are not gimmicks, these set goals will be realized.
@@canismajoris3910 why? I like driving. I appreciate that there are applications where LiDAR/auto drive is useful but if I didn’t want to drive I have public transport, Uber etc for that.
I think there is still a place for enthusiasts who want something lightweight, fun and simple otherwise I guess they’ll keep driving petrol cars.
Fingers crossed they sacrifice some of that excellent cd-value and make an estate version. That would be an instant order from my end.
Not an estate but they Aion Y Plus is super spacious, could not believe how much space the rear passengers have. Feels like in a London cab. Recommend to check it out if you get near one.
@@experimental_av - But can you put the back seats down, and use it like a truck? How much room between the back of the front seats, and the inside of the back? Can you get wheelchairs, prams, and bicycles in?
@@hamshackleton Can you fold the back seat but not totally flat. Of course a truck will always have more space, this was more in reference to asking for an estate. There is a good 20cm space between your knees and the front seat in normal configuration. The most i've ever seen with a car of this size. You should be able to fit all those things, but likely not at the same time. I don't own one just had seen them at a car show. There should be some reviews here on TH-cam.
I can't get over the radar on the top. It's just such an eye sore

It's a gimmick to trick consumers into buying these products.
The salesmen will make you believe Having Lidar = high level autonomous driving = high tech = premium in pricing(though not that much more expensive per se)
and it kind of works in China right now
@@amoondream - I don't think it's an eyesore. It looks fine to me and the people (not you, necessarily) who think so are trying too hard to find fault with the car. Now, if it had those giant Waymo systems on the roof, then they'd have a point.
fine to me
Like a 'taxi' flag!
Very nice, but it isn't a Tesla Model S competitor - Model 3 yes, but it's no S :)
No heat pump? No 5th door/hatch? Unsightly Lidar bump. No thanks.
Great to meet you in Amsterdam. Really interesting video. Affordable, functional yet spunky. Thanks, Eamon 🇮🇪
I'm sorry but I just never feel like I learn much of anything from Elliot's reviews.
He seems like a pleasant guy, but I agree. He's been to Japan -- could he not interview Japanese execs for the channel? Korea's even closer and there's a lot of people there to talk to and factories to see. Same with Vietnam. His car reviews in the density they occur are not relevant to anyone not in China. A half-yearly check-in with multiple cars to look at trends/progress seems far more sensible, and using someone in Asia to cover all of Asia makes far more sense than in-depths on cars we'll never see.
This is what the Tesla model S could have been…??? You mean, a bit shit? Perhaps the title should have said the model 3? I’d still choose the model 3 but at least it’s in the same ballpark, minus the tech, the charging network, the performance….
In 3 years, my car which is ice, and costs thousands less, will be worth thousands more then this car. So says my in-law who owns a dealership. Oh I pass E cars frequently, at charging stations going from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. There are lines of them, waiting.
So, does anyone else want to see a car, which is a metal frame, twisty knobs and dials, a big old boot, as much range as possible and maybe just bluetooth for hands free calling, a heated steering wheel (because it's a fantastic luxury) and not much else?
Self driving, iPads full of silly things that cause distractions...I don't want Playstation games, netflix, hulu and movies. Just a nice soundsystem with good bass and a car that..works. anyone else want that?
"what model S could have been..." If it looked like it was designed by committee, had gimmicky doors, bad software, and a boot vs high utility hatchback. Srsly, this guy has the worst takes ever. I like Fully Charged non-car review content, but you need to do better than you have been with car reviews. More details, more actual testing, less hot take garbage.
Agreed, it's painful, but I think it gets lots of clicks.
Oh, sorry, no, it's very much the other way round.@ndukasmith
@ndukasmith lilkewise
Tesla Model S' sales volume is so low in China, it's not even worth to compete with it.
Hey how’s Polestar doing? 🙃
I guess it getting hot on sunny days ;)
and no heat-pump is strange... don't they have an air condition systems? i.e. heat pump?
😂 AC is heat pump. But not reverse, they won't absorb heat from surrounding.
Elliot's presenting skills are improving! Nice to see! Good auto as well, just lack the price.
No discussion of the other models in the range, their differences, their ranges?
What’s up with all these Chinese EV ads masquerading as reviews? It’s so obviously paid for.
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth

3:00 Charge 450km (279miles) of range in 15min. Only one article lists the full range, ev.motorwatt and it claims 710km (441miles). Obviously real world will be a bit lower, but it's still impressive if true.
I think thats chinese standard range so maybe 550 km WLTP
@@stoapfalzrunden4150 You are right. It's also about 300 miles EPA, at most 350.
Rule of thumb, CLTC converted to Actual real world (not WLTP, not EPA), is about 30% penalty. So expect about 500km of actual use on the top spec, then the other specs would be around 420 km and 350 km respectively.
Safety, build quality, reliability, serviceability, after sale support, re-sale value.
These are the things that we can only know after these companies have 10-15 years+ under their belt.
Well lucky for you, they do. Been around since 2017 in its EV form, and GAC has over 50+ years history building their own brand GAC Trumpchi as well as GAC Toyota, GAC Honda, that often tops reliability and quality chart, even against other JV Toyota ventures.

@@hughmarcus1 Indeed, Chinese manufacturing is renowned for its quality and reliability.
Since when did we start using 'sedan' in the UK?
Can someone please explain to me two things... 1. Why so much China stuff? We're not going to see any of these in the US, and you're going to see precious few of them in the EU. And why is there no Korea or Vietnam stuff? (Why no INDIA?! There are many millions of English-speaking viewers there, and a greater need for EVs to reduce pollution than just about anywhere in the world.) 2. Why so many stupid impractical cars and no trucks (meaning semis, bongo trucks, and delivery vehicles)? We've seen one monster mining truck video, which I really appreciated, and we used to see tiny delivery vehicle videos, but practical truck videos -- some pickups would I guess be useful, but I mean actually practical vehicles. In as much as this channel wants to make EVs more mainstream, should not the emphasis be on scouring the world for practical vehicles, at least to show what CAN be done, rather than putzmobiles like this one and in fact the last FIVE individual car videos?
Really, why? Is this about money flow in a way which is not obvious?
I am from India
Tata, the company which now owns jaguar and land rover, is introducing evs in both passenger and commercial segments (search for NEXON.EV)
They will also introduce evs in jaguar and landrover
EVs are also steadily gaining momentum in india

Why does this car look like a photocopy of a Tesla car? Some small differences.. but at first sight i though it was a Tesla.. If price is right though.. and range wise.. might be interesting .. but I wish it was more original from the outside..
It's a "Rabid Truffle Hound"! I think you should adopt the RTH rating for all future reviews Elliot. Great video, thanks Elliot.

The aion hyper ssr barely even beats a regular plaid, zeekr 001 fr or the lucid air sapphire let alone the rimac. Except as you said on price.
Butterfly, not scissor. Minor but notable difference. Scissor works better in tighter spaces.
I think the front and back motorized aero tech can be sold as a add on for other international cars. That might be highly beneficial for the company.
It’s winter here, with some nice snow, icy roads, … and many rear wheel drive cars with many fresh dents. It’s not the right moment to accentuate it.
In winter conditions the stats appear to show that 4wd vehicles suffer a higher rate of crash damage ... in all but the most extreme conditions RWD (with EV weight distribution) combined with winter tyres works extremely well.
Those scissor doors look a bit dangerous when open. Sharp corner you or a pedestrian could walk into. Just a thought.

Problem is though guys, people don't want £40,000+ cars, they want smaller, cheaper and more economical vehicles.
And we don't have them in the US at all, and they seem rare in the EU and unless there's more noise we're not going to get them. If Elliot is running around Asia, can he not show us Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Korean practical cars/minivans? We don't need to see more SUVs or mid-life-crisis-mobiles.

If anyone is interested for this FAQ.....
Q: What's under the bonnet?
A: A "Frunk" storage, similar to the Tesla models.
Q: But what's ACTUALLY under the "Bonnet" traditional terms?
A: A single motor RWD, producing 250KW / 430NM, 0-100kmh in 4.9sec
Q: What "Self Driving" features does it have?
Q: What Battery Technology does it have:
A: 15min / 450km range charging speed, around 3C.
(Was proven on their WeChat channel)
Q: What else does it have?

Truth be told I would also have a lot of fun with Opel Astra sized EV which would have similar door handles and other tech that does not need motors as approx 2012 Astra, but just have the screens and sensors that are actually needed.
Don't like the looks, nowhere near the performance, inferior software, no true FSD, doesn't have the charging network, less cargo space, in short, nowhere near a Model S (more like a Model 3 competitor), but hey, if they say it is twice the car...
