Whoever designed that bearing setup needs a slap! What hope does the DIY driveway mechanic have when even in a garage, you need specialist tools and another pair of hands to replace a simple wheel bearing! Great work again mate! 🤘
I'm an old guy. In my day there were no special tools, or very few if any, and if you didn't have it you could make something to get you by. Obviously times are different and you need an expert with all the equipment to get the job done. Sad times!!!!! In my day, Sat/Sun mornings saw everyone tinkering with something. Have a look up the street these days!!!!! OK I'm a dinosaur, I'll see my own way out!!!!
I'm always amazed at the corrosion on UK vehicles because of the gritters. I worked as a mechanic in southern Spain for 10 years before retiring and never came across anything like this kind of corrosion on a vehicle.
Povs like me, Baz, use 3 bolts with nuts as "The Special tool" for removal.. Then for cleaning, a wire wheel just like yours works mint. For installation, the "Pov Special Tool" is Ze length of beefy threaded bar & assorted big washers.. Same same but less Shiny. :-)
Oh to have the right tools. Saves so much time. My old boss had me doing these by taking the rear suspension off and braying the shit out of it with a hammer 😂
This is why you fix your own stuff, he did a nice job of cleaning the necessary areas and the repair. But if you did your own you would also have brushed of the rest of the rust and sealed it with some synthetic primer at least. BTW on the test drive it looked like the whole steering wheel was bobbing around when hitting bumps. I know... most of us don't have a nice lift.
I did both rear bearings on mine this year, as they were singing that loud it was clearly audible and exhausting from the driver seat. Managed to break one of the ABS sensor. For some reason I tried to remove it, whilst the bearing itself comes out without anything touching the sensor... Oh yeah broke one bearing on the tool. Used dry ptfe lube on the tool. Yours came out really easily. :D
Did my first one of these on 2006 t5 about 4 /5 yr ago and bought the removal kit with about 3 different collar sizes in , not a bad job to do , doing a kadjar 1.5 dci clutch today . Had to buy gen clutch as back order with luk , now found it needs a flywheel, due to different depth of flywheel, 12.5 or 15 mm , only 644 quid plus vat from renault, customer is not smiling at all , not my fault , his car I said Baz 😂😂😂😂😂, I am in an old cotton mill in sunny Bolton , I feel like a tool hire shop that dosent get paid to lend tools out 😂😂😂 with the guys on site , all nationalities 😂😂😂😂
i need one of thoses tools for my focus front wheel bearing, the branded ones are very expensive,Sealey around £400 but ive seen a US Pro one for £60,think i might give the US Pro a try

Agree entirely. Even Baz doesn't have all the special tools required. What chance does the amateur have?????????

I had some success with a £50 amazon tool. Nowhere near as beefy as the one you used though.
Get mark to show you the Pichler gear for bearings, it’s mega
Menjao sam par puta, lep posao, lep i kombi. Puno pozdrava iz Srbije...❤❤❤🍀🍀🍀
So all that is holding that bearing in is the clips around its outer circumference?
