    Love this! I'm an OT thinking of retiring from my school gig in about 8 years so I could travel around in an RV. This is a great way to combine the both ideas. I've also thought about doing Telehealth while traveling in the RV.

    What are the biggest draw backs for being a new grad doing travel therapy? Also do clinics/hospitals ever hire travel workers to a full time position? Thanks for sharing your experience guys !

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Drawbacks we see are if you don't like constant change or if you want to get a clinical specialist. Residency programs or a organized mentorship program would be best at a permanent position.
      Clinics and hospitals always are willing to hire travelers to full time if you're interested. The reason they need to hire a traveler is usually because they have a need for a therapist full time!

      There's many different housing options out there for travel professions and we've met other couples or therapist also traveling via RV! This would be a great topic for a video! We wanted the adventure of renovating an old RV and the financial savings of doing so! Plus we hated the idea of needing to find short term housing, then moving all our apartment stuff every 3 months. So packing what we owned into an RV and staying at RV parks was our solution and we've loved RV life so far!

    I am nearing the "next step" in my life and have thought about PT. If I choose that route then I am strongly considering doing travel therapy. I figure scratching my nomadic itch while I am young and do not have a family to look after is a better idea than packing up a wife and kids every 13 weeks when I am an older man. Thanks for the info! 👍

    Hi Ryan and Megan! Thank you so much for the informative video. You both helped shed light on travel as a whole and it was insightful to hear both pros and cons. My fiance and I have been talking about travel PT being a potential path as my fiance finishes up his last year of rotations, and while he's interested, there's a lot of nervousness around the topic since it's an unknown territory for him.

    Sir what about an international student being travelling pt?
    How to become a travelling PT?

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are two great questions! We don't have much experience with international students becoming travel PTs and the specific differences. I would assume that if you become liscensed in a state in the US, then it would operate the same as non international students. :) sorry we dont have a better answer for you, but I hope our videos to come in the future help!

    Are we, as therapists, able to break a contract at any time if we were to find ourselves in an unfortunate situation? Or what would be the consequences?

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Typically in your travel contract, you'll have a certain amount of days you give the facility notice that you're ending your contract early. Usually 30 day or 14 day notice. This is also usually the same amount of days the facility has to inform you that your contract is being ended early. So it goes both ways. Now that being said, each situation is different and unique, so some facilities may be willing to work with you depending on the circumstances. Hope that helps! 🙏

    since y’all do live together on the road, how do y’all manage to find jobs in the same area ?

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We just have great recruiters who search for two within driving distance! While it is definitely more challenging than solo traveling, it is still possible to find, especially before COVID! We are seeing jobs open back up, making our search even easier now! We also try to be flexible with where we're willing to go to work since we have a smaller pick! 👍🏻

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically, yes. A part of our income is categorized as a housing stipend and a meals and incidentals stipend. We are also usually allotted a separate sum to cover part of our travel expenses to get to the new location.

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has definitely slowed the travel job market significantly just like other industries, but we're hopeful to see an up swing in jobs in the next few months due to increase orthopedic surgeries and decondition patients. It's all tough to predict tho! As of right now, Megan and I are thankful to have our current contract and keeping busy here in Montana.

    2 questions:
    - Can you travel with an OT?
    - can you chose to work in your home state if you’d like?
    Thanks!

    • @RyanMegan
      @RyanMegan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Great questions Justin!
      Yes you can travel as an OT and with an OT! We just met a PT/OT couple that have been traveling the past 3 years together!
      Yes you can travel in your home state! You just want to make sure you're a far enough distance away from your tax home to be able to earn the tax free stipends. This usually means far enough that it's an unreasonable commute and you have to spend the night away from your tax home. You can find more details on that at traveltax.com :)
      Hope that's helpful!
