Wow! This video hit home for me. I share these same feelings you felt about feeling overwhelmed and cluttered, spending tons of money at target on unnecessary things. I’m literally in tears. It’s been on my mind to get rid of things in my home. We live in a small apartment and the amount of things we have is insane. Being in quarantine the last 2 months has made me realize how we live and all the things we have and that I do not need to live like this. I just can’t... something has to change. You’ve inspired me to finally make that change for me and my family. Thanks for sharing your experience and being vulnerable and transparent about it.
Eliza I really love your response... start where you are 🙂.. we try to focus on the small victories! One side of the house at a time One room at a time One section at a time One drawer at a time Before you know it.. you take a deep breath.. and you feel that peace 🙂
You too are remarkably on point! The Green with "Jealousy-Haters" are so frustrated with the clutter and mess! No peace in their environments. Joshua Becker is so Right on! Thank you for all you give your fans. ❤👍👏❤
You are such a beautiful couple, I’m in awe of how loving and sweet you are to each other and in general. I am hoping decluttering will have a positive impact on my marriage as well. I really love the way you support each other and back each other up. Such an inspiring couple ❤️ Love to you both and your family from Australia xxx
@@TheArmsteadFamily Thank you so much for your reply :) I am brand new to your channel and it's by far the most relatable minimalist family channel for me. I can see my end goal, in your family. My decluttering has progressed so well in the last couple of days since finding your channel! I need to watch more of your videos now and try and get the rest done! Thanks so much and love to you all from Aus! xxx
I just discovered your channel and I am hooked! I have known about minimalism for awhile now and really want to move in that direction with my little family (husband, 2 year old daughter, and myself). We were just given a 60 day notice that we will have to move. (Our landlord is selling the house we are renting). We will most likely be downsizing due to the crazy cost of rent here in CA. I am hoping that this will be the push we need to really declutter a lot and reevaluate what is important! Thank you for sharing your journey! ❤️👍🏻✨
Great video! 👏 I am impressed how awesome your minimalistic journey has rewarded both of you with daily peace, acceptance and happiness. Congrats y’all 😍Thanks for sharing your amazing story with good information and ideas. Being seniors now, turning 70 and 67 years young this DEC’22, God willing. I actually have been slowly decluttering some things for 5 years (we own a big house). I have been giving away furniture pieces, etc. Hubby keeps buying things. Lol! Many blessings🙏
Wow this video is a year old and idk how it came up on my feed but….. Subscribed✅ You guys sound so genuine. The way you guys described how you guys felt in the beginning of your minimalism journey…. Wow.
I had a musical fake flower vase from my aunt. I’d cry every time I wound it up and listened to it because I missed her so much. One day, I finally felt ready to get rid of it and I actually don’t miss it. I still have happy memories of my aunt. I don’t miss being so sad and attached to that empty feeling. It was really amazing and freeing to let go of! We’re still working on decluttering but it’s never been a massive overhaul. It really has been phases and stages. There’s also been periods of burnout-wanting to get rid of items and not knowing what to get rid of or how to create space for the things we do keep.
Amy Doucette wow. That’s amazing. I agree with you. Her memory is enough ❤️ I highly recommend the book the minimalist home. It’s so simple and takes you room to room. It’s at your own pace 🙏🏼
I love this. I'm a minimalist at heart I have days I wanna get rid of everything. I would love to see in your drawers closets in the house your. Hope that's not weird. Love you guys
This is amazing!!! Wow I love your story!! We have been pretty minimal since we’ve seen your lifestyle grow! It’s so amazing and feels so nice to have less things! 😍❤️
Oh my I just love you two, I’m thrilled I have found you and can’t wait to watch your TH-cam channel grow. I’ve been a minimalist for years and have heard it all, are you moving in, moving out, your house doesn’t look lived in, it’s to sterile, it looks like a hotel room, do you use your kitchen. When my children when young and still lived at home they would ask if I let them play with toy. People who don’t live the lifestyle just don’t understand. Looking forward to your home tour and other videos. Do you have Facebook and instagram?
Rochelle thank you so much for this comment 😃😃... we definitely relate to everything you said! Our instagrams are: @theminimalmom @cjonarmstead Can’t wait to connect with you more!
Guy! I’m a huge fan of Joshua Becker and The Minimal Mom. I’ve read all of Joshua’s books and done his uncluttered course and Dawn from the Minimal Mom has a Private FB group and a new course I’m doing. But your TH-cam Channel has lit a new fire under me and I’m absolutely in love. I think you’re gonna be one of those top minimalist names people talk about so inspiring and really helpful. I’m so curious to know who the lady you were following and showing your pictures to on Instagram. That was a cute story. I’m Sharing your channel with other minimalist and aspiring minimalist and hoping to help support you. Like and comments help your channel grow right? Can’t wait to watch all your videos and watch new ones as you post.
This is so nice of you! Thank you so much for this sweet comment ❤️❤️ The person I was sending picture to is @unclutterit on Instagram. ☺️ Comments and likes definitely help us and the algorithm so thank you thank you. We have so much more to share ☺️😍
First I wanna say, thank you!! As a parents of 3 kids I searched a lot for a minimalism family to have a really good idea of how to do it, and you two make a very great example! I totally relate to the overwhelming feelings you described, it's exactly what I felt through out the last years, until I finally decided to go the minimalist way a few months ago... and now together with my husband. Only thing I wanna know is, how to transfer the massage to the extended family? And how to make sure they respect our new way? For example - with gifts. our family members love to give presents even when there is no special occasion, they can bring 2-3 gifts on birthdays, buy things the kids don't even need without asking us, and even give presents on their own birthdays, which Is totally crazy and i never understood that! I really want to know if you have some types for me from your own experience, and if not then some kind of idea of how to deal with that! It will help me a lot :) Keep the inspiration going, I love it!!
Wow what a great tips for people who started minimizing stuff in the house. For my family, my mom usually give away my old books and clothes to my cousin or orphanage, and some my mom just keep it for me to give it to my children.
Even though I don't call myself miminist but we have been on decluttering journey for few years we would never go back to having too much stuff... it's a on going process you do have to revisit same space sometimes and able to find more things to declutter after a year or two. We just redo our flooring and closet we were able to donate one drawer from each room. Free up so much space in a room.
Thank you so much for the inspiration! I’m binge watching your channel now getting ready for minimizing in May! Subscribed* You two compliment each other so well, thank you!
Trust me.. it's actually something we think we need but we really don't. Try ditching it and you will see that you never missed it or needed it in the first place
I loved this blog. I cannot wait to see your house tour. I am watching from Stockport in England . I am trying to mimalise. I am 49 , i have 4 children aged 30, 28, 26 and 18.and 4 grandchildren. I think it is hard because when your child or grandchild buys a present for us I feel I have to keep it. It's so hard. I do not buy anything for myself which I love. . Thank you again for making this vlog
Mandy we love the UK 😃😃.. we went through this exact same situation!!! We had to have heart to heart conversations with our families about gifts! It may not be easy but it can definitely be accomplished lovingly.
I LOVE this channel! I have spent the last year and a half minimizing our home. It's my husband and I with 2 boys. It drives me bonkers to watch “decluttering” videos now because many of them, especially families, dont have the view towards minimalism. But you dont see the whole effect of purging your possessions until they are truly minimal. You mentioned how your office is minimized. I've noticed that no one on youtube is really focusing on the productivity side of a clutter free environment and how it can benefits employers and business owners. Anyone that owns an office or business of any sort should be teaching minimalism. Maybe you could do some videos on that. There are lots of articles related to productivity and clutter. I hope your channel is successful! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for this! My husband and kids are on board, but judgment from others (family) has been hard for me. As time goes on I would be interested in what you do for Holidays as far as gifts go.
We definitely can relate to you!! It can be hard, and we realized we minimized so we could be happy, so in the end that's what matters. As far as holiday gifts, that's such a great question. We usually keep it very minimal with our kids, 2-3 gifts. But, that's a great video topic!!
After I saw your house tour it motivated me to get rid of my placemats lol I had 32 placemats and it’s just me and my boyfriend lol thnx for all the knowledge you’re sharing. Btw getting rid of all of those placemats felt so liberating. I’m still having a hard time with my Christmas decor. I love Christmas 🎄 lol
Hey Doris! That’s so great to hear! We’ve never really enjoyed placemats so that was easy for us, but I know a lot of people do enjoy them. We’ve just started getting more Christmas decor because we want our kids to have those fun memories while keeping as minimal as possible. You can definitely keep some, but make sure you love each piece of decor you’re keeping!
Well done you two, I can't imagine how is that possible. I really want to do that but I really can't see it happen. Please do more videos maybe eventually I can do at least one thing or the other. My house is quite big and I don't have space in any of the rooms and I I'm so desorganized, at home, at work and everywhere I go. But I can't see it happen because I think I can't and definitely my family won't help me or support me. The only thing I think I could easily do is to get rid of all TVs but I know for sure my family won't agree. You're doing really well. Keep up the good work.
ana I can relate to it being an overwhelming idea at first! We will show you our house and that might give some inspiration! Best thing to do is start small and begin to enjoy the idea of having less things and warm the family up to it!
It surprised me that people take offense and even try to undermine my efforts by giving me things. I ended up telling the worst offender that I was going to regift what she gave me as soon as I had unwrapped it. I didn’t ever do it in a nasty way, just “ Thank you, that was so thoughtful, and I know exactly who would really love this”.

I had to edit my comment because if people have a problem with your home, that is because they are used to, living in chaos , when I go to someone’s house and they have lots of nic nacs, photos and pictures on the wall, I actually feel overwhelmed, it seems so noisy to me, plus I’m sure your feeling the effect of living this way with the money you save, my bank account has grown, and I know if I had my old spending habits it would be very different
