I feel like judging people's houses as "not looking lived in" is similar to "that person is too thin". It's often about thinking we couldn't possibly get to that point because a person doesn't want to invest the time or effort to get there, and therefore people that can are "not ok". If you're comfortable in your space, it's lived in and is all good. Good on you. Enjoy.
I’m on my decluttering journey and love it! Husband and I have Salvation Army come and they pick up our donations off our front porch, I just recently donated all our old towels, sheets & blankets to the dog shelter and they said they desperately needed them, made me happy to help others also🥰❤️
I lived in a quite populated city in Texas that had NextDoor. When I had free stuff, I would post it on Nextdoor and say I would deliver it. I made sure I posted the items for areas close to where I lived. All the person had to do was tell me where to put it when I delivered it (like front porch, behind the chair, next to the garage). They didn't need to be home when I delivered the item(s). I didn't post the items on Nextdoor until I was ready to deliver. Everything moved quickly on Nextdoor. It took me 2 days to deliver (a couple hours each day), but I got rid of the items on my time schedule. People were SO HAPPY to get the stuff I didn't want. Some people wanted a whole bunch of stuff, too, so that cut down on the deliveries. Before I did this, I would be waiting and waiting for someone to pick up an item. When I was in the driver's seat, that was a game changer!
Your videos are very inspiring. 1. I love your yellow chairs. 2. I love that you both are wearing the minimalist black. I also have for my casual clothes 6 t shirts in neutral colors. I then throw on a sweat shirt, or sweater during the colder months. It is so much simpler when getting dress for the day. 3. I love your philosophy on just giving your stuff to other people and knowing that you are making other human beings happy. 4. I have received similar comments stating that my walls are bare and that I should put some art work on those walls. My response to that was: When you start hanging items on the walls, it will then start to close in on a room and begin to make the room appear smaller. Also if I ever get a projector, I can have the whole wall for viewing. 5. I also loved that you just have 1 small potted plant on the diningroom table. Its simple, perfect and pretty!
Carlene - I think every wife can relate to your thoughts on unfinished jobs around the house 😂 I’ve got to the stage that if something bugs me enough I do it myself. So my husband gets home to me using various power tools. Last week, it was weed whacking and hedge trimming. But when this happens he wants to take over. I don’t let him but ask him to make dinner instead 😂😂😂
Haha thanks for saying this because someone else just commented that I’m complaining lol it’s literally all in good fun. We kept this in because it’s real life 😂
Instinctively, I have always been a minimalist. I used to declutter about 3 or 4 times a year before the minimalist concept grew. My family would say, "How can you get rid of more? You don't have hardly anything. Your home feels cold". When I married, they were so happy my husband filled our home with stuff, and it felt more homely! Slowly, minimalism is rubbing off on him now. After four years of marriage, I got rid of approximately 40 bags of stuff. It really causes me stress to be surrounded by too much stuff. I feel I am at the same stage as both of you now. Everything you are saying resonates with me. If I had seen this video at the beginning of my journey, it would have made things easier. I wish I had been as wise as you two when I was your age. Better late than never.
That’s really cool to hear that minimalism is rubbing off on your husband… sometimes that doesn’t happen :/… I feel like what you’re saying though is great… when you start decluttering you think it’s going to stay that way forever.. but life changes and we’ve got to learn to be ok with that… and have moments where reevaluate the stuff we’ve brought in ❤️
My dad was a ruthless declutter so my childhood home was super clean but not bare, but everything had a place, and when my room was messy we had to pick it up and organize the closet. Now that I am a home owner I am so so messy, and it's affecting me big time.
Haha thanks for including the real and relatable talk about painting and other home projects! I'm the same way with cleaning; I'd jump at the chance to help anyone clean their home but I drag my heels to do anything around my own home.
Thanks for addressing the giving away and donating aspect in the context of “I’ve already wasted the money”. So much of this journey has been accepting the fact I wasted money and not beating myself up. 😊
Yes, definitely agree, staying at home with three little kids, for me it also was too much meeting with people to give all the donations, it ate so much of my time and made me feel very anxious...and stopped me from decluttering sometimes... That's why I found a place near our flat and now go there to donate the good things, and all the rest goes in the black trash bag.
I order a skip and make an appointment for secondhand collection by a charity shop and start decluttering. So or it goes in the skip or it goes to the charity shop. I never sold anything. I have given it away in community, but waiting on people is not handy when you declutter. It cost a lot more time. I declutter after every holiday that are longer than 1 week. Observe what everyone uses and declutter the rest. And definitely nothing is missed. Cleaning the house gets much easier and takes less time. More time to focus on God. Nothing in this world is so important. Enjoy yourself in nature.
4 years into renovations and honestly the paint brushes, hammers and other things out are driving me nuts 😂 I laughed so hard at the tape conversations. We are still painting and caulking trim. I can honestly say I’ll never renovate a house I’m living in with young children ever again.
We are so lucky that we can have a dumpster for trash in our area that we live in - getting your stuff out is very important when decluttering. Great video.
We had a dumpster where we lived at that time but we couldn’t put most of our stuff there bc they didn’t allow any bulk :/… that’s great that you have that… Makes decluttering so much easier
You guys have been so inspiring to me throughout my own minimalism journey. Love your videos and I’m so glad you’re back on TH-cam ❤ So funny that you point out Cjons “laziness” because I used to be jealous of how much he was helping you around the house and invested in the process…trust me there are husbands doing less. 😂
My goodness. I’ve been doing buy nothing a lot and it literally feels like a second job. It’s exhausting me and frankly upsets me sometimes. And bothers my husband. I need to do what you’re saying. I literally have about 20 things I’m looking at that I put on buy nothing. 🤦🏻♀️
It’s really tough… and I admire people who try the buy nothing… but like you’re mentioning it can be a lot of work and we try as much as possible not to added more layers of work in whatever we are doing… Sometimes it’s worth the extra steps sometimes not… but it’s good that you at least tried and are seeing where you might adjust ❤️
Please don't get frustrated with the negative comments- people can be cruel yes, but some come out of true confusion. As for yalls path- minimalism has a plethora of versions and all look different. I'm into color and patterns and wall art, etc and am a minimalist ❤️ Eta- that painters tape will not pull off easily after too much time 😳
Believe it or not I got the “frog tape” and it’s less sticky… that blue tape will definitely rip the paint underneath… But I’ve definitely gotten stressed looking at the tape I left up there and thinking ima ruin the walls lol
Ajajaj I think a lot of wife would say the same about their husbands. What I do is I put in the agenda a day to do a project and I tell my husband like a week before so he can prepare to do it jeje
I would find a local charity instead of goodwill or salvation army. They throw away a ton of their donations and mark them way up so the people in need are outpriced for needed items. I refuse to donate to either of them.
Forreal lol… it’s a struggle… it’s gotten a little better with having a couple rugs and furniture… but we have really high ceilings and no walls… so it echoes!
I don't like the hotel look in a home. It feels like a person has nothing to do at home - like in a hotel...after you go into the room and dump your stuff...what do you do? Turn on the tv or maybe turn on the computer....and just wait til bedtime...because there's nothing there.
What I see in this video is a kind man who keeps giving compliments to his wife while she keeps complaining. Wake up! No one is perfect but need to be aware of the blessings. Keep being brave in this decluterring journey and kind to yourselves
C’jon here! I just want to say that Carleen and I joke a lot and make fun of each other often… we don’t keep things too serious and thankfully after years of being with each other we both just laugh at things that we used to disagree on .. trust me I didn’t feel bad when she said it in the video 😊 and she didn’t mean it in a condescending way ❤️

Wow that’s actually a great idea for some worn out belongings!!! I literally would’ve never thought of that..
Where else have you donated to??
@@TheArmsteadFamily I’ve donated to goodwill, and any veterinarian animal hospitals too for extra old towels and blankets ❤️

You could post with the items that you do not hold items. First come first serve

I love the honesty!
This is your best, most helpful in a practical way video. Thanks!
❤️
I want to thank you both for being so open, so helpful. God bless you and your family 👍👍
Thank you ❤️
You both are so endearing!
Working on my minimalist journey, you guys touched lots of things am still struggling with, thank you.

I don't know if it's because you have moved recently but your house sounds hollow. Like too many hard surfaces with nothing to absorb the echo.
We have an open layout.. with not a ton of furniture 😂
I like it, weird I know 😂

Sorry family. Why don't you guys do a video about decluttering projects. I am guilty of being a project hoarder.

This is just how we joke.. 😅
Great content! Your home is beautiful. Minimalism is so fluid. A constant “job” ,changing things and decluttering. 🤍
Fluid is the perfect word
