      Just because you bottleneck running low settings in csgo doesnt mean he does.
      Its not as simple and Xcpu+Ygpu= %bottleneck.

    3060ti running with a stock 5820k and it handles every modern game beautifully. Definitely starting to struggle a tad when it comes to rendering but considering I can finally OC and I bought it damn near 7 years ago the thing has exceeded all expectations.

  • @andrewrout8712
    @andrewrout8712 8 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Just something for others with the ASUS RE5 and 5820k to try out...
    I have the following settings:
    1 and 2 active core multipliers set to 47
    3 and 4 active core multipliers set to 46
    5 and 6 active core multipliers set to 44
    with the core voltage set to 1.295
    The reasoning behind this is that most programs that benefit more from higher clock speeds (such as games) typically only use one or two cores. Other programs such as compression or encoding tools benefit more from number of cores and hypertheading than it does higher clock speeds (obviously more clock speed is always good to have).
    Using the settings above, the 5820k will give you a blistering fast 4.7GHz when you need it, or all six cores running at 4.4GHz -- which is 800MHz faster than the stock Turbo Boost speeds.
    Overall, a great way to get excellent speeds without compromising the system with high voltages and temps. I do have a custom water loop; if you're on air or running an AIO you may/may not hit the same speeds, but the same theory still applies.
    Hope that helps someone out there.
    Thanks for all the great videos Linus!

      xmp

    • @maleiabailey2289
      @maleiabailey2289 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +DoctorGTA Those are standard stock frequencies... XMP or better known as overclocking, lets you go further then those specifications. For gaming... your just better off keeping stock frequencies upping the voltage manually and tightening up the timings. (kinda complicated, but if you research it for an hour or so I think you'll understand the basics and be able to do it.) for Work loads... there are benefits to going higher in the "bandwidth" or Frequency. thats what those numbers are... 2133 2666 3200 etc. basically it's just how much data can be transfered at once. but when you up the "bandwidth" you typically slow down the "rate" or speed in which those loads are delivered...and thats the reason overclocking ram doesn't effect the common consumer. Tightening the timings (making the numbers smaller) increases the rate in which data is transferred... and if done correctly it can give you tangible results in games.

Seriously, you see more people benchmarking it for GPUs (a 750ti can play the game at ultra settings and get around 50+ fps) than for CPUs.

    • @LPG100
      @LPG100 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The game can run better on a Pentium G3220 than an i7 5960x. No, I wouldn't say it's a good benchmark.

    • @BizzMRK
      @BizzMRK 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Arma is poorly optimized. I would never ever use badly optimized games for benchmarking at all.

    OC is like upgrading your car, put a turbo in it , add 150-200hp more but it will break sooner.

    • @Najvalsa
      @Najvalsa 9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nope, in fact it could do the opposite. By this I mean, if you have the knowledge to tweak the voltages and timings, you could keep the CPU at the same speed (Ghz amount) but give it a lower voltage than what is automatically given by the computer itself, putting a lower load on the CPU, lowering the temperatures, and so therefore extending its life. OR, you could keep the same voltage (therefore temperature) that your computer has automatically given, but gain more speed (Ghz) out of it.

    • @nextlifeonearth
      @nextlifeonearth 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SlavjanA It doesn't completely work like that power consumption wise but lower voltage in general does mean lower power consumption. Frequency though has to do with it as well.

    • @Quetzalcoatl0
      @Quetzalcoatl0 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SlavjanA You can always tune your turbo to not destroy your engine too :P , it's the same, i ran my i5 2500k on 4.5 1.27V for one and a half years and then it wanted more V to be working, i went from 1.27 to 1.30 to 1.33 now on 1.37V (3+ years now :P) but my noctua NH-D14 coundn't handle it. so i now run 4.4ghz on 1.32V .

    • @Najvalsa
      @Najvalsa 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Quetzalcoalt Damn wth, maybe your OC is unstable get intelburntest and just change the "threads" to 4 instead of the automatic "all", leave everything else as is ("times to run" on 10, "stress level" standard etc etc). After it completes, there's no error and it went fine, and your average temp across all of your CPUs stayed around 80C, then your system is stable. If it IS stable, then that's good, 4.4Ghz is fine tbh, all part of the silicon lottery :L

    • @Quetzalcoatl0
      @Quetzalcoatl0 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SlavjanA as i said u run 4.5 - 4.4 , 3 and a half fucking years, all day runing PC, never go over 76C on core in the summer!!! , and here it gets really hot. Back when i first test it for stability i ran prime and i passed 24 hours. Never had an issue until the 1.27 V wasn't enough 1 year. I've torched that CPU with everything. Live streaming game, and even did a C4D project that had to render for 7 days non stop.

    great video guys! my personal experience is with my own 3930k on a rampage IV extreme. I definitely won the the silicon lottery with this chip as she easily handles in the 4.25 Ghz range, I've had it stable at 4.5 ghz but that's just a bit too high for me to be comfortable with... Oh I also found the H100i to not cool well enough so the cpu is on its own water cooling loop with two D5 variable speed pumps and an extra thick 360mm XSPC rad.

      @madshaugaard9867 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      kreeper24 Pc Builds Mods & Tech Hey, i'm not sure if you have fixed the problem but i will come with some stuff you could try.
      First off, Did you re-install Windows 8.1 on you'r HDD or SDD?
      Okay, make sure you got a good PSU (500-650W recommended)
      In BIOS look for all the SATA devices you have in BIOS. Make sure you'r OS HDD/SDD is the first in the line Should look like this: (Kinda)
      |SSD|HDD|.... and so on.
      Or see if there is some Ram or what ever that is not installed correctly. If you use 4X DDR4 memory Make sure they are in the correct RAM slots. (Slot1, 2, 3 ,4 and so on)
      Try look for a "Reset" botton on the motherboard.
      Els i have no clue. (I'm not a Expert or anything. Just something i could think of when i built my X99 system)

    • @robotbeatrally3328
      @robotbeatrally3328 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      kreeper24 Pc Builds Mods & Tech Not sure if you solved your problem yet. The motherboard used to have issues with power, that I think the newer bios's fixed. This sounds weird but try turning the power supply switch off then back on and seeing if you ever get a boot up error after cycling the power supply switch. Also try unplugging all your usb stuff and booting up. If you never seem to get boot up errors from either of those things, then that might be your problem. like I said, I think the newer bios's fixed that issue. I never had that issue myself. Mine just resets randomly all the time :(

    Hi Linus. Love your videos! But just wondering.. In another video, you recommend running Prime95 for 24 hours, while here you're saying it can damage hardware? I'm pretty new to building, and going to build a new rig soon. (ASUS X99 Deluxe, i7 5960X with Corsair H105, 2800mhz 64GB Kingston RAM and 1 GTX 980 Ti in the CM Cosmos II) Not going to go overboard with OC, and I'm just aiming to get the CPU to 4.1Ghz, and keep the RAM at stock 2800. Stability, reliability and lifespan is a big priority for me. The rig will mostly be used for CPU-intensive audio production.
    In short: Do you still stand by 24 hours of small FFT, or should I run AIDA64 instead?
