- 30 of the best bass fishing anglers compete in the 1975 Bassmaster Classic on the Currituck Sound, North Carolina. The expert anglers talk about the appeal of the sport, and what makes the bass a challenging species to catch. Tom Mann, Paul Chamblee and Bill Dance top the leader board on Day 1.

I still fish this way today, same reels, same rods, no electronics, and when you catch fish, immense satisfaction. I'm 65 yrs. old and thinking back, the most pleasant and content moments of my life have been spent Bass fishing.
You’re awesome sir!
🙏😁
DVD please bassmaster bring these old gems to DVD these are national treasures of the greatest sport in the world.
I kept expecting him to say...Here come those Duke boys with Boss Hog hot on their tail. Lol
Love these old fishing vids.
Man this is pure fishing GOLD!!! I wish professional Bass Fishing was still like this. Just pure fishing. If you didnt have a boat than they had one for you. Only 10 lbs of lures in one tackle box. No big 10 plus inch electronics. The old electronics we see them using in this video is a dinosaur to use but back then that was pretty much what a top end graph is to us this dat and time lol. I would have loved to grow up tournament fishing in those days. Plus look at the boats. Man what a change! 😮 I use to have one of those old 75hp Johnsons on a old 16 foot sprint bass boat I had about 10 years ago and to be from the 70s it still ran like new and would rip across the lake!
Tom Mann. I remember running into him in Nashville as a kid in 1970 in the Ernest Tubb Record Shop. He was a super nice guy.
Back when it was a blue collar sport
Yeah now it’s for the rich wealthy people who can afford to pay a 100 grand for a bass boat
Hiding that brick in that tackle box as a prank was gold
Oh Lord! I love watching these videos!! Real talent.. shows 93 year old yodeling. Had me rolling.
Jimmy Houston in those white polyester pants is hilariously!
Lolllllllllll lmfaoooooo
Lil bassin boy 🎣
1974 classic was GREAT as well.
What Bill Dance says at the very end makes me tear 😢 up in a good way.
Absolute legends
Wow, you have no idea how much I loved this! Just looking back and seeing the trolling motors worked by your foot on the handle, the cone shaped weed guard on the blade and the fact that everyone had the same boat and tackle restrictions. I'd love to see some of this stuff come back! BTW, I REALLY enjoyed the 70's documentary vibe this threw out there.
Them all looked like the Evinrude outboards. Too bad the company is no longer in business
The band was playing Deep Purples, "smoke on the water" awesome!
1975, better times.
back then jimmy houston looked like johnny bravo. lol
AWESOME year that 75.
The way it used to be. GOOD OLE DAYS!
Now it’s all about money and the people with money who can afford to pay 100 grand for a boat.
I love these. Keep posting them!

They were popular practical no nonsense weekend attire in the '70's for married, family oriented men, giving them a break from their suit or uniform, which they wore during the work week. Usually plain Jane worn when handling the "Honey Do List", fishing, chilling out w/ a beer, fixing the car, or working the grill. I remember Dad buying his at K-mart.
10 pounds of tackle? oh how times have changed. 😂
Tell me about it lol. Hell two of my crank bait boxes probably weighs close to that lol 😂😂
Man…I sure miss the good ole days!!!Red Man Chew and Bass Fishing!!!Man I miss my ole Dad!!!
The Bassin Boy song went top 40 that year ..
Lyrics (slightly different than in this video) and a story about the "Music Row Stringbuster's" group are in the March/April 1976 BASSMASTER.

Man all those pistol grips! Don’t think my dad ever had a pole that wasn’t a pistol grip
Smoking cigarettes and bass fishing. To funny. Enjoyed the video and thumbs up.
What's funny about it? Nothing has changed.
Nothing but the tackle, boats, electronics, limits, ten pound tackle rule, the men who fished it and when is the last time you saw a pro fisherman pulling his boat with a car? Only thing that hasn’t changed is the bass.
Did anybody take note of how Jimmy Houston was dressed? Talk about a "Rock Star". 💯🙏😁
(Few men could ever pull this off)
those bic writing pens sold for 19 cents apiece and I always liked them and thought they wrote well

Literally my stomping Grounds where I enjoyed fishing with my Dad in the year 1975 and a few years beyond that..... We fished the creeks and if anyone fished that water during that era they will fully know what a Water Moccasin is..... Because that place was loaded with them......
olde school
2025 we deserve the 50yr anniversary return to the sound…..
Yessssirrrrr
Even though the opening credits say music and narration by Tommy Faile, the story is being told through the eyes of contestant Jon Hall, who finished 27th. At the end, the narrator mentions the last names of all the contestants, EXCEPT Jon Hall and John Pryor. Four of the names are only spoken once, which is understandable, even though there were two Martins, two Manns, two Wards and two Greens (Greene).
Smoke on the Water!
Deep purple 💜
Using old ambassadeurs!
The timex of fishing reels
Al Linder at 22:57 ?

Or Dad won 78........whatever...he won 1 and the Classic on Barnett. So 2x. Whatever. Le Shane Murray.
Yes
Anyone notice something...none of the anglers are fat. Nobody is overweight. That was back when people were more responsible with their diets and more active. No cell phones, no tablets, just you, the boat and the bass.
Billy Westmoreland was a big ol boy
Observation: You have to put in work to catch bass. But it can be a worthwhile work, especially when you figure out a formula that works.
10lbs of tackle? Heck, my line weighs 10lbs.
What's the name of the song lol
Jimmy should make a salt water video biggest swimming thing I have ever caught 30 pound stingary
Back when men really had to go out and catch fish to find them and not rely on electronics
Jimmy Houston hasn’t changed the way he does his hair in his life.
Make America Great Again!
How many pounds of tackle are we aloud in tournaments nowadays I feel like its alot more than 10 lbs
Unlimited .
is that an 8 fish limit, or 6? I thought I heard the announcer at the weigh in say 6
8 bass limit.
Hearing a bass fisherman say "them saltwater fish, they just always there" is hilarious... Clearly dude has never been inshore saltwater fishing or experienced a shitty tide on a quarter moon on a hot summer day 😂😂😂
lol 9:44 nice save buddy
The late, great Billy Westmorland.
How on earth did they get the boats to the ramp without $100,000.00 trucks?
Sounds like Tommy Faile.
Yoo
Unofficially I'm the base bass fisherman in the world of bass fishing. HF CALE. BANK FISHING. JUST SAYING. LOL.
Caught my pb on the bank
Are all the fish dead?
No, this would have been after B.A.S.S. instituted the catch-and-release tournament rule. - Sara
Best damn vids on boobtube!!!
The worst thing about the 70's was the haircuts.
At 17:20 ... It realllllly rolled in , heaviest seas I've ever been bass fishing in.
Are all those fish dead?
You may be tom Mann he told back in the 70 s throw you a jelly worm you will catch a trophy bass it used 2 be a7 in worm it was 7 inch worms
and they're killing the fish? o man these weigh ins are hard to watch. makes me sick. I'm truly greatful how much the sport has grown in terms of sustainability.
Back when boys were boys and girls were girls
Exactly the way Mr. Rodgers explained it. 💯
