@@Q8Webmaster this is a bit disingenuous because the rode comes with two lavs and a series of windshields for each lav. If you try to buy just two Lavs for the DJI mic 2 it’s actually more expensive than the rode wireless pro.
The Rode Wireless Pro kit is very impressive, with a lot fo nice features other mics don't have. And they sound good. Great review Jake, thanks for sharing.
@@JakeSloan I...LOVE...my Pocket 3. I've had all three generations of the Pocket and this is by FAR the best. That's to be expected, but it legitimately surprised me...the video quality, built in wireless receiver, comparatively massive screen, built in wifi, the whole thing is really, REALLY good. Highly recommended.
@@JakeSloan Jake, I don't want to stir s...t but I've seen something about this Putin guy claimed back Alaska in a presidential decree a few days ago... Are you guys in Alaska aware of this madness?
really helpful in my situation as a solo videomaker and often throw myself in chaotic or extreme outdoor environments where u just don‘t have time for setting up audio things. pro seems to be best fit for someone who wants reliable versatile gear but don't need really "Pro" functions and price tag. thx~
Great review, Jake! Really like the rugged versatility of these mics, they sound good (the cat whiskers definitely a huge plus!) and especially having the lock down microphone to the transmitter!
Jake, I really love your channel and videos! I am a small creator with less than 2000 subscribers. I normally do road trip videos from Colorado but have recently changed gears a little and now I am also doing videos regarding video equipment. What can I say, you inspired me. If you could lend any advise it would be much appreciated.
I am writting my consolusion after a very tough comparsion of the 2 mics regarding sound quality! DJI MIC 2 Firmware version: v04.02.01.13 Røde Mic 2 Firmware version: 1.2.8 1) Using Røde Lav II mic on both units (DJI Mic 2 , Røde Wireless Pro) : -- Noise Cancellation off , No Low cut filter : Simple! They both almost identical. You will never beleive it. You can't prefer one other the second. They might sound different if you compare them using 2 different LAVs which is not fair. -- Noise Cancellation On (DJI MIC2) : Røde Wins 100%. 2) NO LAV on both , RAW audio, No DeadCat wind shield. Both clipped equally on the top of my shirt: Røde : Better sound quality! Way better than the DJI Mic 2. Of course it depends on your voice and how much is the difference for your voice, but in General from audio samples from others as well, I found the Røde sound quality is more pure and native and fuller So, Finally: in case you will be using both with LAV, I think you are good to go with the one you prefer more. - if you care about the nice design and the very handy touch screen and compact case, DJI Mic 2 is the winner. - If you care about the noise reduction, then DJI is the clear winner. - If you are going to be hybrid between LAV and without, then the clear winner is the Røde. - If you are going to use it for street interviews, Røde is the winner again. If you have any questions, Let me know! :)
While doing the distance test for the Rode wireless Pro in the background it looks like a drone was flying and then descended quickly heading to the water (an edit was made so I could not see what happened). Did the drone hit the water? By the way great video as usual!
It's interesting that you're just now publishing a review of the older Rode system. It definitely has something to do with the fact that the DJI Mic2 has just been released and has put Rode in his place. Whether rightly or not doesn't even matter. But the fact is that TH-cam is full of the very best reviews for the Mic2.
I did wait till the DJI Mic 2 was released to see what some of the differences were, but mostly I wanted to really test the Rode system in a bunch of difference scenarios and really figure out what the strengths and weaknesses were. Usually people are so rushed to get a video out they don't get the chance to really know a product deeply
Great review Jake. The batteries can handle the cold beautifully, and the range is amazing. Wondering how they handle damp conditions - say high humidity, very light spray from say being near a waterfall or sailing ?
I would say to be safe they should be in a waterproof bag with only the lapel coming out. They don’t have an IP rating so it would be best to keep them dry
It's the first time I've heard it called a furry kitten, I'm almost tempted to call mine a fluffy pussycat in my next video. The Rode Wireless Pro is by far the best system out there, the lock in lav mic is a stupidly simple addition to a mic system, one that every single system with an ounce of respect for itself should have, and the fact that the hairy cat muff goes into the case whilst still on is just icing on top of the damn cake.
Thanks for the review. Would you know what firmware you are on? I saw a vid of the latest firmware improving signal strength, your set seems very very good as opposed to my previous experience, Thanks in advance.
A lot of other youtubers are comparing to DJI mic 2 and saying that one is better... when in their own sound tests the DJI mic 2 soudns WAY worse, which a lot of people in the comments also point out.
You can get the DJI Mic system for $250 and buy whatever lavs you want... or get the DJI Mic 2 for $350 and the DJI lavs for around the same money... I don't know. Maybe the Rodes are better but I'd like to see a head to head test. I guess it's too bad that DJI didn't send you the Mic 2 system.
Sound is so much a matter of taste. And I always see, the user of the Rodes defend their mics, so as die DJI guys do. So what? I level out the differences in my video editing software the way I like it. What I don't like about some TH-camrs, especially their video titles, is that they make you believe that they now know what's going on and what's best. Something like this can never be objective, but is always subjective. Some findings can be explained using technical analysis and pink noise curves, but will this really get you anywhere? I'm not saying there aren't any differences in these types of sets with mobile audio devices these days. Definitely not. There are a lot of sets on Amazon that have all been copied from DJI and Rode and are offering their parts for a lower price. But if you judge at the level of Rode and DJI, then in my opinion it's almost just a matter of taste.
The bevy of accessories that these come with really is an advantage. It’s especially nice that lav mics are included!
Agreed! The lav mics make this such a great deal
Hey Tom
Dji mic 2 + 1 Lav is still cheaper. So its the same actually, Its actually better when its optional and cheaper
Ok, I think its cheaper in US 😅

I bought the DJI because I have a pocket 3. Added the receiver to try it out on my Sony cameras.
I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. I am considering picking one up for use with the Pocket 3 and doing a comparison

I think these sound so much better than the DJI Mic 2. However I wish it was a smaller form factor or updated design.

You can jam sync a tentacle with the Rode, and I think Rode mentioned that they will release a FW update to allow it to be jam synced.
That will be amazing if they do!

Working on it

nope my friend was flying his drone but didn't crash!

mine did not but you will have issues in RF dense places like cities. check the distance test section
