    I have one that looks about the same, I was surprised by his confidence, almost fearless, but kakariki aren't generally very fearful at all, presumably because they have very few natural predators, but mine does remember traumas, a bad vet trip knocked me back for an entire year with his training, and he's now learning very slowly, I think because hes being cautious, he is a ridiculously clever bird, he puts my conure to shame on figuring things out! Be prepared for plenty of poo and food in water dishes, these guys make a mess and their nails grow FAST, or at least Aris do!

    I need help here, basically my cousin had a cockatiel and a kakariki. It was very clear that he didn't like the kakariki. It had a smaller cage, it was rarely let out of the cage, and always bullied by the stronger cockatiel. My cousin said if I wanted I could take the kakariki and I did. He told me that all kakarikis were flightless, as we've never seen it fly before. I believed him untill I saw this video. My kakariki still doesn't know how to fly, is there anything I can do to help? Is it traumatized so much that it doesn't even fly or could it's wings have been damaged permanently by the cockatiel?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Does he have his flight feathers? Cage bound birds have to slowly develop their chest and wing muscles to learn how to fly.
      Let him out of the cage and he should start hopping around and try to fly. You can target train him to start flying. Start by having jump a few inches at a time to your hand or another perch and slowly increase the flying space.
      What was his diet like?

    • @PolishJohnWick
      @PolishJohnWick 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Loveofpets He has his flying wings, I don't know how the previous owner fed him but we give him parakeet and parrot bird food along with eggs, pepper seeds and lemons.

    Hi, can I pair my newly bought cockatiel with my 7 month old kakariki together ??

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, its best to have separate cages. Let out together under supervision. If they fight you will have to let out separately.

    • @nikolasrusinko7081
      @nikolasrusinko7081 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Loveofpets i've put them together 2 days in a row for couple hours and they just seem to be looking at each other making some sounds here and there but they do not fight, they just look curious. Do you think i can keep them overnight or not yet ?

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's best not to. Its a 50/50 chance that they could fight. If they are babies they may get along for a while in the cage but once hormones set in it could be dangerous. The Kakariki is too active to be housed in a cage with a cockatiel. You also have to worry about food, perch and toy guarding.

    I love your set up! 😍
    Wondering if anyone can give me advice
    A few years ago I got a hand reared kakariki. I believed he was male but can’t be sure. He never had a cage and had an large room filled with ropes and branches to play on.
    For the first few months having him, he was playful and really attached to me. Then one day he bit me and from then on he would attack me whenever I walked in the room biting my ears and neck. It got so bad I had to get rid of him. Feel so embarrassed to say it but I got bullied by that kakariki 😅
    So my question is, any ideas what might have caused this aggression?
    They are my favourite bird and I’m thinking of getting one next month but I’m scared the same thing will happen :/
    Thank you for any advice!! ☺️

    • @Loveofpets
      @Loveofpets  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I wish I had an answer for that but it's happened to a few of my birds. The only thing that I can assume is that they are very hormonal and see you as a threat.
      Baby birds are so loving until they become an adult and hormones kick in. They like to choose their mate and fight others. Did he like another person in your home?

      @@Loveofpets thank you so much for replying 🥰
      It’s not a busy household so there wasn’t many people for him to meet but for the few he did meet, he seemed to be ok with them.
      He never bit anyone but me :(
      I used to let him take bits of food I’d dangle from my mouth (sounds vile I know) and I read somewhere that that can cause them to assume dominance. Other than that I can’t think why he turned so mean.
      Sorry to hear you’ve had the same issue with your birds. It broke my heart when it happened to me.

In my cage i have budgies and finches they get along great🐦 i do have a question, did you go through the "bluffing" stage with any of your parrots? Im currently going through that with my ringneck. And also birdtricks made a recent video on body language and she said that birds can get aggressive by playing under blankets etc etc. But my ringneck literally does that by himself all the time. He also sometimes plays aggressive with his toys by himself.Should i be worried about that behavior? Hes only around 4 months and a half. Sorry to ask so many questions 🙂
