@@gmg8771you must know that even in custody of police it is their responsibility to look after the criminal. This is college this is the least a teacher could do to their students they should have taken the responsibility and monitored him until his parents arrive. Teachers are not trained only for reading text books also to help/counsel a student help them build a strong personality which they obviously failed to impart.

Those people who harrassed him and neglected their responsibility should be booked and train the teachers on how to be considerate of student's emotions and caring towards their students. Imagine being treated like a criminal for just a malpractice.

I am a recently retired professor in the USA who has spent my entire professional life teaching medical students and young doctors. Based on my experience I've come to the conclusion that written final exams are outdated and should be abolished. You cannot judge a students knowledge and abilities based on his/her cramming for written final exams. These exams do not test whether a student understands a concept and how they will use the concept to solve a problem or diagnose and treat a disease. They merely test a student's ability to regurgitate facts which are soon forgotten. Problem solving discussion groups and hands on practice led by students with guidance from the professor is the future of education, especially at the tertiary level..

Absolutely agree with you Farook. I was a lecturer in engineering college in Bangalore 25 years ago. I moved to Newzealand & never looked back. In NZ, education system is so good, no stress for the kids. Kids enjoy & not stress about education. Here, final exam results doesn't count but rather they grade them by their performance through out the year. Indian education system sucks, it needs to change, big time 😢😢

True written exams don't appear during your career only it's application can be used during your job but what you study in 4 years of engineering is outdated .Teachers and parents please treat children not as commodities they are human .please don't be judgemental. error can be done by anyone teachers, parents, and students..parents want their children to be engineer's .All cannot be engineer's or doctor's.they are not machines to rolled out of assembly line in a factory .If Teachers find this children not capable taking such courses.immiedeatly counsellor needs to be appointed and counsel the parents and the child . First find out child passion and make them join the courses what the child likes and so we don't create one more adthiya. Teachers have patience treat each child unique .first teach them in a simple English or any language they understand the subject and give them assignments and ask them to complete it at home students have fear they may not be able do exam well.so exam should not fear oriented one we can copy. Learning should be fearless then treating them as demon.. if child has copied from a book mobile..teacher has to give him extra time and confiscating any evidence at the examination centre. Same day correct his paper whether he has copied or not .Give him a chance to prove innocence or you want to punish give him a back log end of engineering degree.

@@Panther581 , agree with you. But one person can't change the system. Indian government needs to make that change right?
Just memorizing the whole text book and writing the exams & getting top rank doesn't make students brilliant. Some kids have so much practical skills and knowledge but they just can't memorize & get through the exams.
When I was studying engineering in Bangalore, one of my classmate took his life because he couldn't get the top rank & his parents would punish him. Really feel 😢 😢 for each & everyone who is struggling in Indian education system.
I lived in Newzealand & Australia for many many years. What I have realized is that, there is no "Pass Fail" system in schools. For example, every kid passes each year & moves to next year until they finish year12. Some kids realize that university is not for them and they go on to join certificate courses & become plumbers, electricians, beauticians etc etc. But bright kids go to university & go on to become doctors, engineers , lawyers etc etc, there is no pressure for kids. They choose to go to university only if they're capable not because their parents push them to join university.
See, even if I come back to India, I just can't change the system. Indian government needs to make that change, hope it makes sense. I love my country India, don't get me wrong. I want kids to be happy, enjoy life and lead a stress-free life without worrying about their grades. Kids have lot of potential, some kids are practical minded, they can become rich by starting up their business etc etc. There are endless possibilities.
In Newzealand, in kindergarten, kids just play & socialize. They don't teach alphabets, numbers or words at school. Trachers encourage kids to only become social. In highschool, kids get extra marks by working at McDonald's or getting driver's license at 16 years of age. I mean, it's not just studying & getting good marks. If a child works in community helping others like old people, they get extra marks at school for doing that service. Hope you know what I mean.

@@Panther581 I'm afraid that you have misinterpreted what I said. I was not comparing the educational systems of India and the USA. As a matter of fact most US Universities still have written exams. However, the passing grade is not based solely on a single written final exam. Course work, practicals and oral presentations have equal weight in the final mark given to the student. My conclusion is based on my 50 years of experience as a professor. I am advocating a total change in the way we educate our children, doing away with rote teaching and learning, memorizing and emphasis on a single written final exam. This will remove the stress children experience in school making education a more enjoyable experience. THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO RESORT TO SUICIDE. Such change has to be instituted by the ministry of education at the national level, not by a few professors. In most developed countries that has already taken place or is currently happening. It's time for it to happen in every country.

Telling from my experience in the same campus , pes has very worst exam system , firstly there are five internals which will happen almost alternate weeks and then they assignments and then finally we have our exams , pes has been changing their exam systems from past 3-4 years and causing problems to students studying in that term , earlier in Covid too we had to attend online classes and Give our exams offline , the reason y they are not afraid of anything is because he was member of legislative council , I can keep on telling negative things happening in this college - a frustrated student of graduating batch.

In 2007 a similar thing happened where 2 students and 1 staff at 3 different months committed suicide at the BHM department because of constant harassments from the management. Every time there is an issue regarding suicides or harassments the management uses their political friends to get away with it. Barely anything comes in the news over the years thanks to the money involved in keeping everyone's mouth shut. They collect huge donations to make big infrastructures and pay bribes to their political friends but when a student complains about any issues regarding the teaching standards they come with some lame excuses and put the blame on the students. This college need to be investigated and shut down. Glad at least one news channel is covering it.

This is really heartbreaking to see and my deepest condolences go out to Aditya's family.
I graduated from PESU as well, and have my own tales of woe. During my final semester project presentation, I was severely belittled by a professor in front of a whole group of other students and professors. It was a humiliating and degrading experience, and to top it off I was being blacklisted and due to receive a failing grade. My crime? I was doing the project at another institution which the professor in question had problems with. Due to a silly ego clash, my future was threatened and my dignity shattered. Luckily I had the support of a few good professors (who I'm told have left), and my parents who helped me pull through this.
PES really needs to work on cultivating a environment of empathy and start treating their students like adults. You can't expect them to behave like adults, if at every opportunity you fail to treat them like so.

It was not just that girl alone.. I too faced this situation in my first yr when my mother got called in for my shortage of attendance and my class teacher not only complained about me to my mom but also abt one of my guy friend who was a senior (12th) and told my mom that boy is a rowdy and your daughter hangs out with him .. Teachers in any institution should learn their limits and know what to say to students and their parents and how to guide the children in their care properly instead of humiliating and belittling them.

I am from Bangalore and my many friends are in different Bangalore colleges not all colleges are like that but PES University teachers indeed harasses students. There is one teacher in EC campus who wants students to have 100% attendance, even if he misses 1 class he has to make his parents call the teacher to explain why he missed. He has got his own rules like if in internals if a student gets less than half the marks for eg out of 20 even if he gets 9.5 instead of 10 then the child would have to bring his/her parents to college irrespective from what location does student comes. He even threatens if the parent doesn't come he will not be allowed to write the exam for the semester. Think in what mental pressure he leaves the children in who is struggling to understand the subject and all the time he/she will be thinking how to get marks instead of understanding the subject and this is where malpractice and other scenes gets created.

Practical hands on knowledge with the expert guidance with lots of scope for reasoning, analysis should be part of learning. Written exams are more of a memory test and don’t really tell much about the level of understanding. Education in any field is important but shouldn’t be treated as the ultimate stepping stone to success after all there are many excellent engineers who are college dropouts.

I have given retake for one subject around 6-7 times to pass it. Finally passed the exam during final year.

0:39 I have a lot of empathy for Aditya’ mom but the fact is that internationally copying or plagiarism is grounds of expulsion. It’s not OK anywhere else in the world. However, most schools will be more empathetic than this school has been. It’s still not something to kill himself over.

Generally they book kids for MP or fail them in that exam. I think best they would’ve failed him or asked him to retake the exam or compare his past results. Child must be too sensitive. He took an extreme step. He should’ve understood, failed exam can be retaken, not a failed life.

Colleges like to belittle you to the extent that you feel more guilty than a murderer. There are no proper regulations for neither colleges nor the management.

@@in.meraki Teachers have a habit of harrassing students beyond limits. and if a child is "too sensitive" then as a educator you should be mindful of that.. just because you are a teacher does not give you rights to harrass a child . Btw what do you mean "too sensitive" are you trying to blame the child? I am not the step the child took but atleast I get it, in that moment you cannot see a future , you cannot see beyond the fear of that moment and at such a time to be surrounded by non compassionate people who tell you things like "better you die that be caught like this" that in legal terms can be classified as abettment to suicide

Usually colleges would have listed the consequences for actions like copying and plagiarism n other common misdemeanours in their handbook. When you register for that college you are explicitly agreeing to abide by its rules. The college must be exercising their prerogative and the boy instead of paying consequences for his action has chose to end his life. I am a foreigner, my son is studying law, going into second year in Sept. His doing University of London LLB, plagiarism for coursework is expulsion, non-negotiable. I told my son the choice is yours. The call to punish the college is mind boggling. As much as I feel sorry for the dejected parent, it’s high time to show our children actions have consequences. We can’t get away playing truant.

I am a professor , active and teaching at a private university. This is a serious issue . There’s always a chance of re writing failed semesters . Kids at 19 are vulnerable, undergraduates should be counselled and never shamed . Any institution should deal with compassion. Parents should also not pressurise their kids to make exams and competition so a matter of life and death . Indian parents should strengthen kids to take life as a challenge and not as a matter of societal expectations !

Oh my God . How she can bare this situation and accept her is no more. In front of mother when they call a malpractice boy , just imagine how much he might have harassed, and there was no proof that he has copied, if they want to be so strong , they should have checked every one strictly, it’s there mistake, and if they have told not to this next time , it would have over, now will they able to get him back? After this incident no one should get admission to this heartless college.

Condolence to the family for their loss. 🙏... On a different note, today's generation of kids are mentally strong just as an egg shell. They are not able to even face a small moment of downturn or embarrassment. Everyone lacks basic notion of faith and hope. This was never the scenario with our generation. We all had a firm belief system, be it on parents, higher power, religious system, or spiritual anchor in the face of adversity that makes us stronger to withstand the pressure the circumstances brought in.... The whole upbringing has changed in the society. In urban areas, I very rarely see any kids taking prayer in their own house, no temple or holy visits, not even a clue of their own religious roots... People can mock the traditions but these were the small things that guided us, boosted us, protected us, imbibed hope... and helped with that voice in our head saying 'Try it .. for one more time' inspite of failing multiple times. Days were simpler, I wish todays children got a chance to dwell in those old way of humble upbringing.

I agree and empathise with the mother. Nothing justifies loss of a precious life. Nothing justifies such toxic environments where the system has a punitive, cruel and insensitive culture. First the judgmental system needs to be fixed which means people should be made sensitive to empathy, mental health and human nature. Prayers for the boy's soul and his family
