Spot on! Traditional jujitsu is fun to explore movement and old techniques, but the Judo/BJJ mats keep you honest about what you can do against fully resisting partners. Thats been my experience juggling both interests over the last few months.
I think the American gun community has self-defense down pack. Instructors who are worth mentioning. Craig Douglas from Shivworks. Warrior poet John Lovell. Sheepdog response Tim Kennedy. Imo. If you look at old school pugilism (BareKnuckle boxing) and no hold bard submission grappling. Are better for self-defense. French kickboxing , 52Blocks as add ons work for me. Also Learning to incorporate your EDC and other tools. Pepper spray, Flashlight first aid/IFAK. Firearm, etc. FMA for stick fighting that transfer to bladed weapons. None of that matters without proper situational awareness. Learning martial arts from a combative perspective would be the best case scenario. Not everybody is training to be athletes competitive fighters. But you can go to the same gyms with a different perspective and get what's best for you.
@@OGFITNESS was all ground started on knees chokes with gi that wouldn’t work on the street your not wearing a thick gi on the street maybe no gi would be better
In my humble opinion, for self defence you need to actively train in a grappling art and a striking art that MMA athletes train in. (Boxing kickboxing Muay Thai or judo wrestling bjj) for most of us any of these will do so choose the ones you enjoy and local to you. AND most importantly, even if you get to point where you can kick ass, walk away from any fight u can.
Great stuff as usually brother. I agree that there’s no way of having a proper self-defense system since it isn’t possible to emulate ALL possible situations, which would involve different types of people with different skill sets. I think that DESCALATING the situation is the bet way not to hurt or get hurt and works fine here in Japan. If you pick a fight here you’ll get arrested, so the best way s to live in peace with all. Regarding pressure testing, judo has been the best source for me because we attack and defend all the time and that would be useful in a real life situation, I also think that my practice in gojuryu karate can help me with blocking punches and kicks as I can also use them to attack and aikido gives me a space perception, since we practice defense against multiple attackers and also teaches defense against knives and sticks,In other words, self-defense involves getting aspects from several martial arts and make them work in real life. However, it’s best never to use them. Personally I never needed to use my martial arts skills, because I don’t look for trouble and don’t go to place where trouble is bound to happen. If I could do that in Brazil probably everyone can do the same!!!LOL Now that I live in Japan I don’t have to worry about trouble at all, so I’m just enjoying practicing judo(black belt coming soon), aikido(got my black belt recently) and karate!! Love your videos, my friend 👍👍👍 I have a question that would make a pretty good video, I think . Is the judo that they teach now, even Judo anymore? kano jigoro lay-out for what judo is and what should be taught and why if you really study and go into it . Is not what they are teaching, .
@@devriestown hmmm… let me think on that, i have some thoughts for sure, ill have to research it a little to get my facts right, great suggestion, thx 🙏 🙇♂️🥋
