Yo OG, started my Judo journey and I'm loving the advice and videos. Keep up the good work! Osu! I'll spar u in my white belt
I would do this but I dont have tennisballs... maybe next time

Every BJJ student should get to a green belt level of Judo, minimal. That’s 1 solid year dedicated to Judo. 2 solid years, 2 days a week 104 weeks and you could be a sankyu. This is not somebody who’s like already a purple belt in BJJ.
When I started training Judo, I’ve exposed myself to how much I don’t know and it was truly humbling. If someone came up to ask me if I know how to fight, I’d still say “I don’t know”.
whenever i take a BJJ class from 730pm to 9pm, i would stay awake until 5am, even after taking Magnesium. I feel incredibly sleepy but body is incredibly agitated.
In Japan it's not unheard of getting a Judo black belt in 3 years, if you train intensely and show results competing. It's rare, but not impossible. This will of course vary immensely from person to person, from sensei to sensei, country to country, etcetc. Some people train 2 times a week and never compete and take 10 years to get halfway to a black belt, and that's perfectly fine depending on your objective.
So where’s a sample workout routine!? 😊
@@meditaciones_y_ser will be making some simple workout routines soon. Osu🥋
Dan Zan Ryu Jujitsu which was founded by seishiro okizaki who held a black belt in Judo amd studied classical Jujitsu and other arts included more striking in his Jujitsu style to fill in the gaps modern judo has.
Thanks for the video. I'll give up judo. I can't afford to get injured.
I'm a very mid Judoka and BJJ blue belt. I've been taking down a bit by wrestlers when I have an upright Judo posture.
@@robertkearney4458 with the gi or without?
They have amazing groundwork but now they should try something new like Judo or wrestling so they can have good standup as well and be well rounded grapplers.
Bom dia!
Would Muay Thai or boxing be better for a 42 yr old man to start getting in shape learn some self defense
@@Canecorso14 muay thai imo
I agree with OG here. I did 3 years of MT and 1 year of boxing. In those 3 years of MT combined I took less hits to the head than in the 1 year of boxing. The fact that your opponent wants to attack your whole body rather than just the torso and primarily head definitely lessens the amount of times you take one to the dome since they have other targets to prioritize as well
Should u train at a school that has floating spring mats or once u know how to break fall any mats the school u go to has is fine
@@Canecorso14 ideally spring mats but you’re right, once you know how to break fall and you keep yourself in shape, any mats surface is fine, not puzzle mats though, those are way too thin
What gi are you wearing in this vid

I agree with you for the most part, and it's the view I've had for a long time. The only question I have is what is the substitute for something like the deadlift? Being able to lift heavy things is important; I don't mean lifting 500 kg (I remember you said that excessive heavy lifting can lead to issues in old age), rather, being strong enough to lift and carry a person away from danger, for example, and being able to do so with relative ease. What is the deadlift analogue in calisthenics? Thank you in advance for your advice.
@MH-jc3uj im 45 , never needed to deadlift anybody in my life, if you have to pick up someone to carry him, you’d have to carry him/her with your arms in front, or fire man’s carry on your back. Ask yourself this, would a male olympic gymnast be able to carry you ? I believe so, and they don’t deadlift at all. They arms, core, and back at super strong, and they’re legs are solid as heck too. But as a trainer, i would say 1.5 to 2x your bodyweight at most if you must deadlift, only if you have no back issues
@OGFITNESS Thank you for your reply, friend.
@ osu🥋
😂
How long do I need to get a black belt i js started and I don't do competitions and what does switching belts depend on? like is it skill, time spent, etc?
Bruce was so ahead of his time it is insane…
Advice: on point. Great stuff
In judo kata there is hammer fist❤❤
How heavy should one lift at a maximum? If we take deadlifts as an example, what is the maximum weight one should lift while young and when older? Also, what is the man's name, please?
I already play golf two to three times a week, lift weights twice a week and box twice a week, I done judo a while ago but never got past the white belt stage due to inconsistency. I have no hopes or ambitions of ever being great or even good at judo, it's mainly for some self-defense however if I could throw around or submit someone who doesn't know any grappling, I'd be happy.
Humans are monkeys. Do monkey things. Return to Monkey.
I go to BJJ to make sure my Judo works, it does But they don't like when you just pin them even if you're up in points lol
Funny because as a four strip BJJ white belt I recently joined a Judo club to work on my stand-up and I tap out orange and green belts with ease 😂😂
@@JEFFMAN90 but did they throw you/pin you? Not talking taps out here Jeff
Ive only seen one person too bulky for bjj... It was a retired rugby player who got so much muscle and fat, he cant really push his arms together... However he can overhead press me with one hand so he doesnt need bjj to be honest(i weight 190 pounds)
Your ausome! Is it ok to do hip thrusts abd squats if i dont have a booty builder??
@@tdyfallu whats abd?
Im almost 44 I do 3 simple classes per week that hurts they be added a 4th but more intermediate...I'll be doing that and mobility everyday and weight 2 to 3 times a week is this too much??
I have the answer. Why choose? Judo is jacket wrestling with certain submissions allowed. Wrestling is wrestling with no submissions allowed. Jiujitsu is wrestling that has a wide variety of submissions. Do them all!
@@Agtren time, energy and money, but if those aren’t a factor, yes course, do all!
Is it possible to wear a headband in training?
@@LV.3223 sure, never seem anyone wear one , but i think it’ll get in the way at one point.
@OG Fitness it's been a while Happy New Year to you and i'm finally 40 years old today. My question is Judokas in Japan have great submission game compared to other Judokas because they put plenty of time into Kosen Judo so isn't the fault of the Judoka for not putting enough time into it because BJJ came from Judo in the first place?
I know to many people that trained judo. And not they complain about how broken their bodies are. Most people don’t train judo that long. I have seen jujitsu work in the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Which are way dangerous then any place in America. The only people I know that use jujitsu in America are law enforcement officers.
😂 Judo is actually bigger than BJJ in Brazil! Brazil has very good Judo and it is state funded. Unlike BJJ. Most people don’t realize that.
The main problem with judo is all the clubs are for boys only. So either you train with kids or you join bjj
not true at all lol smh
Yeah aint lying about the coach liking you and being promoted.
Juijitsu the most overrated art
Who was the speaker?

As much as karate is known for it's fist conditioning, if you look at the height of the "punches" in kata, they are almost always at torso height, not head height, and most head/neck height strikes are done with the hammerfist, knifehand, elbow or forearm. Knuckles against teeth or forehead isn't fun for the knuckles even if they are conditioned, and orthopedic surgery didn't exist in 1600's Okinawa.
Judo is getting expensive in the UK. I joined a club with mostly young school boys, but the tutor was charging me 15£ per hour session! Which is probably about 20 dollars US. I quit after a few weeks, didn't feel I was getting much from it
Thats insane, was it privates? If not you got screwed i think
@OGFITNESS yeah it was a lot of money. Plus half of the session was just warming up or fitness routines. I'm in London. There are adult clubs about but they are far from me and very late at night. But I'm always on the look out
@Fury851 If you're in London UK, you could do worse than join the Budokwai. When I was working in London (as a northerner) I would get down there and they welcomed me with open arms. Friendly club, very high level, but they do have beginner/intermediate sessions. Good luck.
Never heard of anything like that in the UK. Most IJF clubs are £5 for drop in, or about £100 pa. Most BJJ clubs are £10 for drop in or £80 pcm.
@@endurojimmy3109 the club was in Stepney green. Very over priced
Just train, have fun and grow. There’s good and bad in every discipline.
I had the privilege to get to know Ken Norton Sr., who had been World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and he told me he wished he had been doing weight training during his boxing career, he would have had a longer career.
Just started Judo 2-3 Months ago and I am 40. Absolutely loving it. The next day or 2 after I always feel every bone.
100 percent !!!😊
I think I watched in one of your other videos where you said when you were a kid you did a striking art, maybe Taekwondo, I can't remember which one, but I think that you might benefit from revisiting that or karate now that you have a lot of Judo experience because the Kata of Karate (which Taekwondo adopted, like the Pinan kata) were designed for clinch fighting. The foundation of karate is actually Tegumi, the Okinawan version of sumo, and then striking was added on top of that so basically Karate is how to strike while grappling at the same time. That's why the hands aren't up guarding the face and why the other hand is always pulling back to the hip because it is hikite for the same reason it is hikite in judo, it's pulling something.
In NYC, BJJ and Judo are the same price
Also non of that in classical japanese MA (koryu) - just mutual bowing, and the osu is not there (neither in Japanese judo I believe). I suspect the dominating practices and top down things are misunderstandings of japanese culture by brazilian and american practisioners.
*western practitioners in general
When I did the math and adjusted for inflation, the dues I paid in the late 80's and early 90's for karate in my area (and all other arts were charging the same), it would equal around $70/month in today's dollars. Today, karate, taekwondo and judo in my area (with their own dojo to pay for) charge $80-100/month while the BJJ schools charge &120-150/month.
Going to trigger a lot of people with that statement 😂
What is your advise for kids under 10? Most MMA gyms focus on BJJ.
