What if Dr. Eggman merges Gemerl with the Phantom Ruby instead of testing it out on Infinite. And instead of a custom hero in Forces, Sega would let you customize Gemerl, and that is why "Infinite" (Gemerl) seems to have a personal vendetta against him. Edit: I meant Emerl instead of Gemerl when I said "-, Sega would let you customize Gemerl,-".
Original Infinite would be very angry cause he still get’s his ass beat by Shadow (likely not. I just think that one thing is funny enough to keep it in) But that would be an interesting thing to see, we all know where the Phantom Ruby would go (*cough cough* Forehead *cough cough*)
Or possibly since from the comics it seems eggman got the phantom ruby before meeting infinite it’s possible the story could of been altered to having the jackal squad retreating and infinite when sonic forces happens having to join the good side kind of a neat concept to add on to this one

Not at all, for one simple reason. Shadow has amnesia in Shadow the Hedgehog, and does not in Battle. Ergo, the relative order has to be Shadow > Battle

I think if Emerl survived, eventually Tails would find a way to enhance Emerl so that he could function at full capacity w/o the Chaos Emeralds, in case the need for Sonic to become Super Sonic would arise again. That said... if that were the case, Emerl would be an interesting ally to Sonic in a story like Sonic Unleashed.

I'm genuinely terrified about the possibility of Emerl copying other beings like Chaos (i.e., Dark Gaia, the Time Eater, etc). Combined, he'd be virtually unstoppable. Especially with that sentience of his, which could be persuaded - again. At that point, I don't think any amount of positivity from Sonic and friends could undo that kind of damage.

Seriously, I don't know how in the hell Sonic was supposed to beat him-Emerl took Sonic's speed (Sonic Run) and GOT FASTER (Ultimate Run). He took Knuckles' strength (standard attacks, deep impact) and IMPROVED IT (ultimate standard attacks do more damage, able to kill in one combo). He can use chaos magic better than Shadow can, he can heal himself better than anyone can (to be fair, nobody was shown to be able to heal themselves before). Ultimate Emerl specifically is like the most broken overpowered Sonic character, and he got beaten through plot armor
Couldn't have put it better myself 😁 At the end of this part, Emerl isn't in his Ultimate Emerl state anymore; as Super Sonic managed to stave off his ancient programming - so he doesn't have access to his "Ultimate" moveset at the moment, but he still has all the abilities he's accumulated so far! But, there's always the possibility that Ultimate Emerl may return.. if an even *greater* power shows itself to him. We'll have to wait and see!

But, something I forgot until now, is that Emerl himself didn't need to be Ultimate in order to learn and use the Ult. ability cards. Is that going to be a factor in this What-If? Also, do you think you could do a "What if Mephiles survived (the end of Sonic '06)?" I think there's lots of potential behind an independant second villainous force, and Mephiles himself is pretty darn awesome.

I always thought of it as Sonic going all out. In the final story after Sonic and Shadow are beaten by Emerl, Sonic seems to imply Emerl still has a lot to learn. Implying Sonic wasn't serious while Shadow seemed to be. But I can see the arguement for just plot. Ultimate Emerl would probably still lose to Egg Wizard, Egg Salamander, Solaris, Imperator Ix and Time Eater. Super Sonic class opponents are still above Ultimate Emerl since he can't use them to their full extent. Emerl beating Mephiles, Silver and Infinite would definitely increase him to broken levels though. Forces might not even play out the same from Sonic's and Infinite's first encounter.
@@99sonicrocks Sonic *was* going all out. But with the way that Emerl's copying worked, it seems like Emerl would be able to copy and improve *those* improved abilities as well. Except... He doesn't copy everything instantly. The new, all-out Sonic was able to beat Emerl the first time, accidentally also killing him. Which meant he couldn't copy any abilities... obviously.
This just came up in my head: What if they didn’t bring Emerl back, just kept referencing him to an extent. Then in Sonic Forces, they brought him back as a villain in place of Zavok. WOULDN’T THAT BE SO COOL?! Now that’s a character we’ve actually grown to love, and then came back as something worse. THAT’S interesting storytelling!

I really enjoy this idea of Emerl still being alive and Gemerl becoming his arch nemesis, as it were. I would imagine Emerl would be a very key player with the Sonic Gang, helping them in their travels. I wonder though, how Emerl will favor when Unleashed comes into play. Emerl has the emeralds inside him, so Eggman wouldn’t be able to use his cannon to spit up the earth and awaken Dark Gaia, meaning it is possible that the events of Sonic Unleashed might not happen with Emerl still alive, but that’s just me. Forces is another interest I have for Emerl. He’d be very helpful in the resistance and I wonder how he would fair against Infinite. Not to mention with Gemerl fighting alongside Eggman, I think Gemerl will replace that phantom copy of Metal Sonic. With Gemerl around, Eggman might not even need Metal Sonic anymore. Having said that also makes me think of another factor. Metal Sonic and Gemerl. I believe that seeing how Metal Sonic has failed him numerous times, Eggman might want to discard Metal Sonic and have Gemerl take his place, but not without a fight. Actually I would differ.Although Metal Sonic has shown to fail he has be shown to be an equal with sonic and shadow.The reason he loses is because he has a liability being a robot so he has a straight game plan while sonic has multiple options since he has a soul.plus metal can obtain bio data of an opponent as shown in identical plus he can go super since he literally is sonic.metal is Eggman’s child plus he is the closest thing Eggman will get to sonic.

I love Emerl (also one of, if not my favourite), but honestly I'm satisfied with letting him remain dead. Reviving dead characters is something that strips tension and consequences from stories and though I would rather if the game was just written so Emerl could have lived, it's too late now without retconning anything. However I would like to see Gmerl get some screen time again and follow in Emerl's footsteps, perhaps having some vague memories from Emerl, but not enough that he stops being a separate character.

Ultimate Emerl is actually what me and my brother named Emerl after we gave him all of his ultimate card things. We called him Ultemerl. Alongside Cream, he's the most powerful thing in the game.
I think in the Dark Brotherhood Emerl would learn about the histoy he forgotten and may try to help get his fellow Gizoid free from there servitude to Ix maybe even having Charyb and Scylla becoming his Tails and Knuckles in a sense. (by that I mean best friends and teammates to form Team Gizoid)
It would be interesting to see Emerl and Gemerl become allies like Sonic and Shadow as this goes on, oh, and see how it'll fight the Deadly Six being how they can take control of machines and all
As a fan of Emerl and Sonic Battle, I enjoyed this. I’m glad you mentioned Super Sonic’s positive energy and how potent it can be, people tend to forget that bit. And while I suppose Mecha Sonic is the only one I can think of using the Master Emerald to go Super in the canon of the games, it makes a lot of sense that one could. After all, it’s powerful enough to keep the Chaos Emeralds in line, and seems to use the same Chaos energy. And while it isn’t game canon, Sonic and Knuckles also use it to do so in the Archie comics, if one cares. On to the continuing story... It’s not like Rouge hasn’t fudged facts to the President before, lol. Besides, Sonic’s power in Super form is able to keep Emerl Linked to him, so he won’t be going wild anymore. Gizoid can’t copy each other sounds legit enough. Going to have to go back to those tablets and Nocturnus lore in Sonic Chronicles... Unfortunately Sonic Battle seems to be post-Heroes due to Shadow, but the two of them could provide an interesting counterpoint to Neo Metal if it wasn’t. Oh well. Unleashed could have potential, too. Emerl could probably recognize Sonic in his Werehog form by some crazy Nocturnus tech that still recognizes his Linked entity. And maybe there’s something about the Ruins of Gaia in his ancient databanks. Having him mimic Werehog moves could be neat, too. The whole Gizoid rivalry idea between Emerl and G-Mel could be it’s own plot somewhere.

Emerl's 'super moves' in Sonic Battle are essencially enhanced versions of Sonic's own attacks. He's basically using Super Sonic's moveset at that point.
Why did Sega get rid of the original custom character in Sonic games! And don't bother adding any other customizable characters untill forces (unless there's others I don't know about)

I loved Emerl when I first saw him and despite Sonic X's take on it being kinda meh, when I saw the Cream/Emerl fight I actually got emotional (although I was like ten or twelve, but still) loved seeing a video about him surviving his debut game. Also a couple what if ideas: First what if Sonic had saved Shadow from falling in SA2 instead of just retrieving his inhibitor ring? Second, what if Amy hadn't stopped training in those latent psychic powers she was said to possess? Third, what if Sonic learned Chaos Control earlier? Fourth, what if Sonic kept either the Seven World Rings or Caliburn from the storybook series? And lastly, what if the games took some concepts from the Comics, like Eggman's Adventure redesign being because of his body being a cybernetic one, or there being other Echidnas than Knuckles, or even Amy not being so Sonic obsessed and contributing to the fights against Eggman more?
I'm not sure if anybody else has mentioned this yet, but Sonic actually has used the Master Emerald before to go into his Super State in Archie Comics. I figure it's worth mentioning since you brought up IDW as well. In the Arc of the Third Enerjak (Knuckles Enerjak), Finetevus used a hex to control the Master Emerald, which even prevented Locke (Knuckles' father) from being able to access it despite his previous Guardian status. Sonic had a great enough connection to Chaos Energy that he bypassed this and used it to become Super Sonic. Nonetheless, your reasoning was already pretty solid considering the Master Emerald is the more potent source of Chaos Energy compared to the Chaos Emeralds. The fact the Master Emerald can make the Chaos Emeralds into Super Emeralds and is stated to be able to nullify their energies in SA2 should be proof of that. Good video though! I found this what if to be pretty interesting, I hadn't really even thought too hard about Emerl outside of Battle and Sonic X tbh.
Long post incoming. Sorry dude. I had just finished watching a ton of Dragonball "What Ifs" from MasakoX. And I was thinking "Man. Those were cool. I'm surprised that there aren't other What If series for other franchises. As I say that, TH-cam recommends me THIS video. First off, I'm a huge Sonic fan and had no idea someone was doing this for the Sonic universe. Second, Emerl is MY favorite Sonic character, followed by Metal Sonic and then Sonic himself. Third, this What if is of the EXACT scenario I have wished for, for YEARS. Of course I had to click this video. And it was sooo good! I'm glad to have watched this and "met" someone whose a big of fan of Emerl as I am. His relationship with Sonic, Amy and even Shadow was wonderfully written and Gemerl was NO replacement for the OG Gizoid. I also want to see how he'll interact with Metal Sonic (especially since he and Metal have quite a bit in common.) So I just wanted to share that. But I do have a bit more to say, if I may. About Emerl's arm. The one Tails made him should be fine for now. But if Emerl copied Chaos' powers, shouldn't he be able to regenerate a better arm? Or at the very least, adapt or modify the arm overtime to working just as good as the original. So it shouldn't be an issue in the long run. Emerl and the "Gizoid Clause". I think that's a really good clause. It helps keep Emerl from getting TOO strong (his one issue and probably why the writers killed him off to begin with) and keeps Gemerl (and any future Gizoids relevant.) It also makes sens to me after playing Sonic Chronicles. After all, if 1 GIzoid could copy another, they'd just copy each other's battle data and be invincible. Emerl's Soul and the Link System. I think that this is something that would have to be addressed in the future. If not, Eggman could just keep blowing up future stars and resetting Emerl back to his default settings. But I've always had an idea to fix that, that I want to share. I think that Tails (with Shadow's input) could "improve" the Soul Programming that Gerald Robotnik created for Emerl and that its something that they'd both want to do. No hero benefits from various factory resets of Emerl. Emerl has been conscious after having his "link" reset quite a few times and Tails is more than capable (and on the same IQ level) as Gerald was. Not to mention, Tails has the benefit of having 30 to 50 + years of advanced technology. I think that Tails would be able to "upgrade" Emerl's soul that the latter could prevent himself from defaulting to his default settings. Or to word it differently, choose which "Links" to prioritize. After all, he's linked with Sonic twice; something the Nocturnal Echidnas didn't expect to occur. Not super easily of course, but it would eliminated as a major weakness of his, symbolize how much he has come towards having his own humanity, surpassing his original programming and so on, so on.
(Had to split my comment, so that it wasn't too big) You mean the Chaos Emeralds?! I think we'll get to a point where Emerl needs to abandon the Chaos Emeralds. He can't keep them in him forever. Sonic and friends will need him. But can Emerl "live" and function without all 7 Chaos Emeralds in him? I dunno and I don't want to push all my ideas into your What if. But I know this will need to be addressed. But! There is a backup to this. Remember that Tails can make FAKE Chaos Emeralds. Plus, the world needs the original 7 to probably return to nature and what not. With Emerl sticking around for the forseeable future, I think Tails could consider making a considerably weaker set of Fake Chaos Emeralds to power Emerl, so that the original 7 can be used for other reasons. Also, Emerl not having all 7 real Chaos Emeralds in him would make him LESS of a target by people who want those emeralds. Being powered by weaker Chaos Emeralds might make Emerl weaker for awhile, but its worth it to keep him around (and for narrative purposes. After all, Emerl comes off as a very powerful character. Gotta keep that in check. Especially when he meets and copies the abilities of characters he hasn't met yet, like Blaze, Silver, Omega, Metal Sonic and even the Deadly Six and the Phantom Ruby. Man, Sonic Forces is going to go in a whole DIFFERENT direction with Emerl around). All in all, I love the idea of this What if and I'll definitely return to this channel for more of this. I love Emerl so much and I really wish he was still around in the franchise. I want to see Amy treat him more like a Son. I want to see Shadow have an actual friend outside of Team Dark. I love how Sonic, Emerl and Tails bounce off of each other, freeing up Knuckles to work with Team Chatoix more... or make a fearsome foursome with Team Sonic. Last but not least, In my mind, I always wanted to modify how Emerl looks... to separate him from his Gizoid clones and Ancient past. Also, Emerl and Tails share the same color (Yellow/Orange)... which would be a problem in the games. My answer to this was a simple addition to Emerl. GIve him an Emerald Green Scarf. That way, his design is the same, but now his main color is Green; which plays off of Team Sonic's color palette well (RBY). Now you'd have RBGY. Okay. Enough of my ideas. (Feel free to use if you want.) I can't wait to see more of yours. Until the next video. :D
The best thing that could happen is Emerl vs Infinite? Would Infinite make copies of Emerl? Could Emerl copy abilities from beings made from the Phantom Ruby? Is the Phantom Ruby powerful enough to override Emerl's link to Sonic and obey Infinite? Would Eggman's conquest even succeed?

Would the link be broken again? Would Emerl copy its abilities? What would Team Sonic do without the Chaos Emeralds at their disposal? These scenarios are interesting to think about, really :)
I do enjoy this what if story that you shared, I've always like/love Emerl as a character since he's bond does have a big impact to the cast besides his arsenal of fighting skills/abilites would frightened some various foes. Like having Shadow's chaos control, knuckles strength, tails intellect, amy's boxerise & Hammer, etc. The point im getting at is besides the lovely character growth for the entire cast (and good writing) Emerl meeting the rest of the cast of characters beyond his initial death would really make him "The Strongest Character" due to his flexability to handle the situation with what skills could get the job done, what would stop him would be him establishing another link by another power or something else? The story you've put up sparked me to really think of how far emerl would go in the story being by their side. (To probably find a power supply to substitute the chaos emerald but who know.)

I actually had no idea Emerl was in Sonic X (i have yet to finish watching that series) But I've played hours and hours of sonic battle in my early teen years, and I love Emerl! Great job on this story, and I hope you continue each and every one of these what ifs. It's funny that I've always wondered if I'd ever find a Sonic what if because I've watched over a hundred DBZ ones. Great job again!
Just imagine, there's an alternate timeline somewhere, where the sega saturn was actually completely different console. A console that was just as good as the N64 and PS1. And then the dreamcast didn't fail, and SEGA went on to create a console to fight against the PS3 and XBOX 360 and Wii. Can you imagine?
Let's see... Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Rush, Sonic 06, Sonic Colors (DS), Generations, and Forces all seem like stuff Emerl would be able to partake in.

Emerl's death is easily one of the saddest and most impactful within Sonic canon, but at the same time when you realize how easily he has access to infinite power scaling it makes sense why he couldn't easily become a recurring character without causing problems for the writers

Then for Gemerl why not have him be able to fuse his moves with his ability to amplify the aptitude of the technology around him so he can for instance make knuckles' punch even stronger. Yeah... emerl can fuse techniques, but only his ultra moves are fused together. - Sonic's punch + Knuckle's deep impact = explosive punch - Sonic's kick + Rouge's special kick = Cutting kick - Sonic's top kick + Knuckle's rock throw = Rock kicking - Sonic's air kick + Knuckle's deep impact = Aerial explosive kick - Sonic's "wind mill" kick + Tail's aerial spinning attack = Aerial super spin attack - Sonic's breakdance kick move + Chao's water attack = Water breakdance kick - Sonic's wave shot but stronger ( both air and land versions ) - Sonic's up draft + amy spin = Pink tornado attack These are the ones i remember, clearly fusions of techniques from different characters.

here's an idea I came up with on the toilet: What if Blaze didn't go back? like something happens at the end of Sonic Rush and Blaze ends up stuck in Sonic's world
Things would get extremely interesting in Sonic 06, because Silver comes back in time with another Blaze. Meaning Silver could encounter Rush Blaze and possibly even fight her.
This is definitely an interesting story I would like to see continue. Though without me personally knowing when this game takes place, I don't know the exact time it would be in this story's history. Still, I would like to see the future. Would Emerl be affected by the Wisps when we get to Sonic Colors? What team would Emerl form in Sonic Heroes (maybe slip in Gamma and another lesser known Sonic character)? And maybe in the Storybook games he would be a version of some golems from their respective worlds?
I was thinking throughout the whole video, but what of Gemerl? Isn't he a rebuilt Emerl? Then a few minutes before you brought Gemerl up I just remembered that Eggman built Gemerl, not Sonic and crew and I was like could they exist at once? I just had a weird idea: _*What if Blaze was sent to the Chaos Dimension early? (Could be during Heroes, 06, or even Sonic 2). Though I'd love to see the possibilities of her staying after that, going on adventures she previously had no involvement in, and what she could even change with her powers.
Actually, Sonic going Super with the Master Emerald makes a lot of sense. But you wanna know what would make even *more* sense? Him turning into a form that's even *stronger* than Super Sonic (not necessarily Hyper Sonic, but that is a possibility)! 'Cause the Master Emerald *alone* is more powerful than all seven Emeralds combined!
Ok, so here is a rather interesting thought, what if the events of the Metarex Saga from Sonic X were in the game series as sort of a "Sonic Adventure 3" (and since that might not effect too much afterwards, maybe have Cosmo live this time, also no Chris Thorndike)?
I'm curious as to how this would affect Metal Sonic. With Gemerl still alive and on his side, would the doctor even have a reason to use Metal? He would probably be more loyal than the gizoid.

The idea that gizoids can’t take the power of other gizoids is a perfect limitation to their copying powers. I also wonder what might happen in sonic chronicles, the dark brotherhood, with g-merl and emerl both meeting other gizoids. Please don’t flame me If chronicles came before or not, I don’t exactly have a good idea of where it is in the timeline.

What if Dr. Eggman merges Gemerl with the Phantom Ruby instead of testing it out on Infinite. And instead of a custom hero in Forces, Sega would let you customize Gemerl, and that is why "Infinite" (Gemerl) seems to have a personal vendetta against him.

Shadow has amnesia in Shadow the Hedgehog, and does not in Battle. Ergo, the relative order has to be Shadow > Battle

I think if Emerl survived, eventually Tails would find a way to enhance Emerl so that he could function at full capacity w/o the Chaos Emeralds, in case the need for Sonic to become Super Sonic would arise again. That said... if that were the case, Emerl would be an interesting ally to Sonic in a story like Sonic Unleashed.

I'm genuinely terrified about the possibility of Emerl copying other beings like Chaos (i.e., Dark Gaia, the Time Eater, etc). Combined, he'd be virtually unstoppable. Especially with that sentience of his, which could be persuaded - again. At that point, I don't think any amount of positivity from Sonic and friends could undo that kind of damage.
This could be good tho it could mean the return of hyper sonic
if Emerl survived, and he stayed as Ultimate Emerl, then basically every villain would just get instantly wrecked.
Seriously, I don't know how in the hell Sonic was supposed to beat him-Emerl took Sonic's speed (Sonic Run) and GOT FASTER (Ultimate Run). He took Knuckles' strength (standard attacks, deep impact) and IMPROVED IT (ultimate standard attacks do more damage, able to kill in one combo).
He can use chaos magic better than Shadow can, he can heal himself better than anyone can (to be fair, nobody was shown to be able to heal themselves before). Ultimate Emerl specifically is like the most broken overpowered Sonic character, and he got beaten through plot armor

At the end of this part, Emerl isn't in his Ultimate Emerl state anymore; as Super Sonic managed to stave off his ancient programming - so he doesn't have access to his "Ultimate" moveset at the moment, but he still has all the abilities he's accumulated so far! But, there's always the possibility that Ultimate Emerl may return.. if an even *greater* power shows itself to him. We'll have to wait and see!

I always thought of it as Sonic going all out. In the final story after Sonic and Shadow are beaten by Emerl, Sonic seems to imply Emerl still has a lot to learn. Implying Sonic wasn't serious while Shadow seemed to be.
But I can see the arguement for just plot.
Ultimate Emerl would probably still lose to Egg Wizard, Egg Salamander, Solaris, Imperator Ix and Time Eater. Super Sonic class opponents are still above Ultimate Emerl since he can't use them to their full extent. Emerl beating Mephiles, Silver and Infinite would definitely increase him to broken levels though. Forces might not even play out the same from Sonic's and Infinite's first encounter.

He doesn't copy everything instantly. The new, all-out Sonic was able to beat Emerl the first time, accidentally also killing him. Which meant he couldn't copy any abilities... obviously.
This just came up in my head: What if they didn’t bring Emerl back, just kept referencing him to an extent.

Sure, it’d be nice to see Emerl learn psychokinesis from Silver, but I think we should look at how this robot rides the wind first. What happens when a Gizoid interacts with Extreme Gear?
Some abilities Emerl could gain from others.
- Blaze: Pyrokinesis
- Jet, Wave, and Storm (possibly): Extreme Gear Skills
- Silver: Psychokinesis
- Wisps: All Color Powers (Essentially becoming a walking talking Wispon)
- Deadly Six: Magnetism Manipulation
I really enjoy this idea of Emerl still being alive and Gemerl becoming his arch nemesis, as it were. I would imagine Emerl would be a very key player with the Sonic Gang, helping them in their travels.
I wonder though, how Emerl will favor when Unleashed comes into play. Emerl has the emeralds inside him, so Eggman wouldn’t be able to use his cannon to spit up the earth and awaken Dark Gaia, meaning it is possible that the events of Sonic Unleashed might not happen with Emerl still alive, but that’s just me. Forces is another interest I have for Emerl. He’d be very helpful in the resistance and I wonder how he would fair against Infinite. Not to mention with Gemerl fighting alongside Eggman, I think Gemerl will replace that phantom copy of Metal Sonic. With Gemerl around, Eggman might not even need Metal Sonic anymore.
Having said that also makes me think of another factor. Metal Sonic and Gemerl. I believe that seeing how Metal Sonic has failed him numerous times, Eggman might want to discard Metal Sonic and have Gemerl take his place, but not without a fight. Also, I would love to see a fight between Metal Sonic and Gemerl if it came to it.

Actually I would differ.Although Metal Sonic has shown to fail he has be shown to be an equal with sonic and shadow.The reason he loses is because he has a liability being a robot so he has a straight game plan while sonic has multiple options since he has a soul.plus metal can obtain bio data of an opponent as shown in identical plus he can go super since he literally is sonic.metal is Eggman’s child plus he is the closest thing Eggman will get to sonic.

I love Emerl (also one of, if not my favourite), but honestly I'm satisfied with letting him remain dead. Reviving dead characters is something that strips tension and consequences from stories and though I would rather if the game was just written so Emerl could have lived, it's too late now without retconning anything. However I would like to see Gmerl get some screen time again and follow in Emerl's footsteps, perhaps having some vague memories from Emerl, but not enough that he stops being a separate character.

Ultimate Emerl is actually what me and my brother named Emerl after we gave him all of his ultimate card things. We called him Ultemerl. Alongside Cream, he's the most powerful thing in the game.
I think in the Dark Brotherhood Emerl would learn about the histoy he forgotten and may try to help get his fellow Gizoid free from there servitude to Ix maybe even having Charyb and Scylla becoming his Tails and Knuckles in a sense. (by that I mean best friends and teammates to form Team Gizoid)
It would be interesting to see Emerl and Gemerl become allies like Sonic and Shadow as this goes on, oh, and see how it'll fight the Deadly Six being how they can take control of machines and all
As a fan of Emerl and Sonic Battle, I enjoyed this. I’m glad you mentioned Super Sonic’s positive energy and how potent it can be, people tend to forget that bit.
And while I suppose Mecha Sonic is the only one I can think of using the Master Emerald to go Super in the canon of the games, it makes a lot of sense that one could. After all, it’s powerful enough to keep the Chaos Emeralds in line, and seems to use the same Chaos energy. And while it isn’t game canon, Sonic and Knuckles also use it to do so in the Archie comics, if one cares. On to the continuing story...
It’s not like Rouge hasn’t fudged facts to the President before, lol. Besides, Sonic’s power in Super form is able to keep Emerl Linked to him, so he won’t be going wild anymore.
Gizoid can’t copy each other sounds legit enough. Going to have to go back to those tablets and Nocturnus lore in Sonic Chronicles...
Unfortunately Sonic Battle seems to be post-Heroes due to Shadow, but the two of them could provide an interesting counterpoint to Neo Metal if it wasn’t. Oh well.
Unleashed could have potential, too. Emerl could probably recognize Sonic in his Werehog form by some crazy Nocturnus tech that still recognizes his Linked entity. And maybe there’s something about the Ruins of Gaia in his ancient databanks. Having him mimic Werehog moves could be neat, too.
The whole Gizoid rivalry idea between Emerl and G-Mel could be it’s own plot somewhere.

Emerl's 'super moves' in Sonic Battle are essencially enhanced versions of Sonic's own attacks. He's basically using Super Sonic's moveset at that point.

I loved Emerl when I first saw him and despite Sonic X's take on it being kinda meh, when I saw the Cream/Emerl fight I actually got emotional (although I was like ten or twelve, but still) loved seeing a video about him surviving his debut game. Also a couple what if ideas: First what if Sonic had saved Shadow from falling in SA2 instead of just retrieving his inhibitor ring? Second, what if Amy hadn't stopped training in those latent psychic powers she was said to possess? Third, what if Sonic learned Chaos Control earlier? Fourth, what if Sonic kept either the Seven World Rings or Caliburn from the storybook series? And lastly, what if the games took some concepts from the Comics, like Eggman's Adventure redesign being because of his body being a cybernetic one, or there being other Echidnas than Knuckles, or even Amy not being so Sonic obsessed and contributing to the fights against Eggman more?

I'm not sure if anybody else has mentioned this yet, but Sonic actually has used the Master Emerald before to go into his Super State in Archie Comics. I figure it's worth mentioning since you brought up IDW as well.
In the Arc of the Third Enerjak (Knuckles Enerjak), Finetevus used a hex to control the Master Emerald, which even prevented Locke (Knuckles' father) from being able to access it despite his previous Guardian status. Sonic had a great enough connection to Chaos Energy that he bypassed this and used it to become Super Sonic.
Nonetheless, your reasoning was already pretty solid considering the Master Emerald is the more potent source of Chaos Energy compared to the Chaos Emeralds. The fact the Master Emerald can make the Chaos Emeralds into Super Emeralds and is stated to be able to nullify their energies in SA2 should be proof of that.
Good video though! I found this what if to be pretty interesting, I hadn't really even thought too hard about Emerl outside of Battle and Sonic X tbh.

I had just finished watching a ton of Dragonball "What Ifs" from MasakoX. And I was thinking "Man. Those were cool. I'm surprised that there aren't other What If series for other franchises. As I say that, TH-cam recommends me THIS video. First off, I'm a huge Sonic fan and had no idea someone was doing this for the Sonic universe. Second, Emerl is MY favorite Sonic character, followed by Metal Sonic and then Sonic himself. Third, this What if is of the EXACT scenario I have wished for, for YEARS. Of course I had to click this video.
And it was sooo good! I'm glad to have watched this and "met" someone whose a big of fan of Emerl as I am. His relationship with Sonic, Amy and even Shadow was wonderfully written and Gemerl was NO replacement for the OG Gizoid. I also want to see how he'll interact with Metal Sonic (especially since he and Metal have quite a bit in common.)
So I just wanted to share that. But I do have a bit more to say, if I may.
About Emerl's arm. The one Tails made him should be fine for now. But if Emerl copied Chaos' powers, shouldn't he be able to regenerate a better arm? Or at the very least, adapt or modify the arm overtime to working just as good as the original. So it shouldn't be an issue in the long run.
Emerl and the "Gizoid Clause". I think that's a really good clause. It helps keep Emerl from getting TOO strong (his one issue and probably why the writers killed him off to begin with) and keeps Gemerl (and any future Gizoids relevant.) It also makes sens to me after playing Sonic Chronicles. After all, if 1 GIzoid could copy another, they'd just copy each other's battle data and be invincible.
Emerl's Soul and the Link System. I think that this is something that would have to be addressed in the future. If not, Eggman could just keep blowing up future stars and resetting Emerl back to his default settings. But I've always had an idea to fix that, that I want to share. I think that Tails (with Shadow's input) could "improve" the Soul Programming that Gerald Robotnik created for Emerl and that its something that they'd both want to do. No hero benefits from various factory resets of Emerl. Emerl has been conscious after having his "link" reset quite a few times and Tails is more than capable (and on the same IQ level) as Gerald was. Not to mention, Tails has the benefit of having 30 to 50 + years of advanced technology. I think that Tails would be able to "upgrade" Emerl's soul that the latter could prevent himself from defaulting to his default settings. Or to word it differently, choose which "Links" to prioritize. After all, he's linked with Sonic twice; something the Nocturnal Echidnas didn't expect to occur. Not super easily of course, but it would eliminated as a major weakness of his, symbolize how much he has come towards having his own humanity, surpassing his original programming and so on, so on.

You mean the Chaos Emeralds?! I think we'll get to a point where Emerl needs to abandon the Chaos Emeralds. He can't keep them in him forever. Sonic and friends will need him. But can Emerl "live" and function without all 7 Chaos Emeralds in him? I dunno and I don't want to push all my ideas into your What if. But I know this will need to be addressed. But! There is a backup to this. Remember that Tails can make FAKE Chaos Emeralds. Plus, the world needs the original 7 to probably return to nature and what not. With Emerl sticking around for the forseeable future, I think Tails could consider making a considerably weaker set of Fake Chaos Emeralds to power Emerl, so that the original 7 can be used for other reasons. Also, Emerl not having all 7 real Chaos Emeralds in him would make him LESS of a target by people who want those emeralds. Being powered by weaker Chaos Emeralds might make Emerl weaker for awhile, but its worth it to keep him around (and for narrative purposes. After all, Emerl comes off as a very powerful character. Gotta keep that in check. Especially when he meets and copies the abilities of characters he hasn't met yet, like Blaze, Silver, Omega, Metal Sonic and even the Deadly Six and the Phantom Ruby. Man, Sonic Forces is going to go in a whole DIFFERENT direction with Emerl around).
All in all, I love the idea of this What if and I'll definitely return to this channel for more of this. I love Emerl so much and I really wish he was still around in the franchise. I want to see Amy treat him more like a Son. I want to see Shadow have an actual friend outside of Team Dark. I love how Sonic, Emerl and Tails bounce off of each other, freeing up Knuckles to work with Team Chatoix more... or make a fearsome foursome with Team Sonic.
Last but not least, In my mind, I always wanted to modify how Emerl looks... to separate him from his Gizoid clones and Ancient past. Also, Emerl and Tails share the same color (Yellow/Orange)... which would be a problem in the games. My answer to this was a simple addition to Emerl. GIve him an Emerald Green Scarf. That way, his design is the same, but now his main color is Green; which plays off of Team Sonic's color palette well (RBY). Now you'd have RBGY.
Okay. Enough of my ideas. (Feel free to use if you want.) I can't wait to see more of yours. Until the next video. :D
The best thing that could happen is Emerl vs Infinite? Would Infinite make copies of Emerl? Could Emerl copy abilities from beings made from the Phantom Ruby? Is the Phantom Ruby powerful enough to override Emerl's link to Sonic and obey Infinite? Would Eggman's conquest even succeed?

Good work on this. You've been handling these what-if scenarios quite well. I do have a question though: if Emerl were to see, say, Metal Overlord, what would happen? Would the link be broken again? Would Emerl copy its abilities? What would Team Sonic do without the Chaos Emeralds at their disposal? These scenarios are interesting to think about, really :)

I do enjoy this what if story that you shared, I've always like/love Emerl as a character since he's bond does have a big impact to the cast besides his arsenal of fighting skills/abilites would frightened some various foes. Like having Shadow's chaos control, knuckles strength, tails intellect, amy's boxerise & Hammer, etc.
The point im getting at is besides the lovely character growth for the entire cast (and good writing) Emerl meeting the rest of the cast of characters beyond his initial death would really make him "The Strongest Character" due to his flexability to handle the situation with what skills could get the job done, what would stop him would be him establishing another link by another power or something else?
The story you've put up sparked me to really think of how far emerl would go in the story being by their side. (To probably find a power supply to substitute the chaos emerald but who know.)
BRO!!!!!!! I absolutely LOVE this concept! I actually had no idea Emerl was in Sonic X (i have yet to finish watching that series) But I've played hours and hours of sonic battle in my early teen years, and I love Emerl! Great job on this story, and I hope you continue each and every one of these what ifs. It's funny that I've always wondered if I'd ever find a Sonic what if because I've watched over a hundred DBZ ones. Great job again!

Just imagine, there's an alternate timeline somewhere, where the sega saturn was actually completely different console. A console that was just as good as the N64 and PS1. And then the dreamcast didn't fail, and SEGA went on to create a console to fight against the PS3 and XBOX 360 and Wii. Can you imagine?
Let's see... Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Rush, Sonic 06, Sonic Colors (DS), Generations, and Forces all seem like stuff Emerl would be able to partake in.
I can't wait for the part where classic Sonic meets Emerl and mistaken him for a one of Eggmans robots.

Emerl's death is easily one of the saddest and most impactful within Sonic canon, but at the same time when you realize how easily he has access to infinite power scaling it makes sense why he couldn't easily become a recurring character without causing problems for the writers
wasn't it cannon that Emerl could fuse moves together in order to create the ultimate version of the action? Then for Gemerl why not have him be able to fuse his moves with his ability to amplify the aptitude of the technology around him so he can for instance make knuckles' punch even stronger. It could be a good idea.
Yeah... emerl can fuse techniques, but only his ultra moves are fused together.
- Sonic's punch + Knuckle's deep impact = explosive punch
- Sonic's kick + Rouge's special kick = Cutting kick
- Sonic's top kick + Knuckle's rock throw = Rock kicking
- Sonic's air kick + Knuckle's deep impact = Aerial explosive kick
- Sonic's "wind mill" kick + Tail's aerial spinning attack = Aerial super spin attack
- Sonic's breakdance kick move + Chao's water attack = Water breakdance kick
- Sonic's wave shot but stronger ( both air and land versions )
- Sonic's up draft + amy spin = Pink tornado attack
These are the ones i remember, clearly fusions of techniques from different characters.

I think battle happens after Shadow the hedgehog becuse of how Shadow acts in Sonic Battle. I dont know about Sonic the dark brotherhood.

here's an idea I came up with on the toilet: What if Blaze didn't go back? like something happens at the end of Sonic Rush and Blaze ends up stuck in Sonic's world
Things would get extremely interesting in Sonic 06, because Silver comes back in time with another Blaze. Meaning Silver could encounter Rush Blaze and possibly even fight her.
This is definitely an interesting story I would like to see continue. Though without me personally knowing when this game takes place, I don't know the exact time it would be in this story's history. Still, I would like to see the future.
Would Emerl be affected by the Wisps when we get to Sonic Colors?
What team would Emerl form in Sonic Heroes (maybe slip in Gamma and another lesser known Sonic character)?
And maybe in the Storybook games he would be a version of some golems from their respective worlds?
The emerl and gemerl relationships reminds me a lot of sonic and metal sonic. The replica that desires to prove it self to be the better entity.

I just had a weird idea: _*What if Blaze was sent to the Chaos Dimension early? (Could be during Heroes, 06, or even Sonic 2).
Though I'd love to see the possibilities of her staying after that, going on adventures she previously had no involvement in, and what she could even change with her powers.

The idea that gizoids can’t take the power of other gizoids is a perfect limitation to their copying powers. I also wonder what might happen in sonic chronicles, the dark brotherhood, with g-merl and emerl both meeting other gizoids. Please don’t flame me If chronicles came before or not, I don’t exactly have a good idea of where it is in the timeline.
