    These actually came out really nice I agree the grimey look is totally necessary. They look like a hard fighting unit. Those Lego Ninjas are toast.

    I amazed everytime I see a kid who is willing to let his father paint some minis for him. My boys are insatiable with the demand to paint more, even given one of them is not the most artistic. At any rate, these look great!

  • @jamesespinosa690
    @jamesespinosa690 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey guys!! I just want to push back a bit. If you're using rattlecans, I would still recommend you basecoat your mini's first. The rattlecans don't always adhere properly to bare plastic. The rattlecans also do go in and out of production, and have their formula's changed relatively often. So if you've found a colour you really like and expect to be working on the same army/project for more than a couple years, I would recommend you pick up maybe half a dozen cans and store them in a dark cupboard!
    Thanks for the vid though 52! Great work!

    I just stumbled upon this video, and your channel, from a recommendation on the TH-cam homepage, and I've already subscribed after watching this masterpiece. The cinematography, the immaculate script and narration, the lesson to be learned by the end of the video- it's unlike any other piece of miniature painting content I've ever seen. Good luck to you, sir, and keep making stuff like this! It's amazing. I'll be binge-watching the rest of your videos now.

    Fantastic video! That red looks great and I'm confident the battle between Ninjago, Dinosaurs, and Space Marines will be legendary. I agree with setting a time limit too, I make sure I don't go over 2hrs unless I'm invested in what I'm painting but I think 2hrs is perfect to prevent boredom because once that sets in the fun begins to fade fast
    Great video Alex

    The time it takes to figure out which paints to use, and creating a new workflow for something you haven't painted before...that was spot on. I'm sitting on a fully primed Stormcast army, struggling with that same, exact dilemma currently.

    • @52Miniatures
      @52Miniatures  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A good place to start experimenting is silver for cool colours and gold for warm. But mainly try and think of a colour wheel and think of gold as yellow. What happens when you add yellow to blue or to green for example.

  • @mordy2v
    @mordy2v ปีที่แล้ว

    I use this for all my armored minis. I also like applying a wash before the contrast to give a little more depth

    • @52Miniatures
      @52Miniatures  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is another good idea. It’s then possible to tint the armour in other ways as well. Like adding a blue wash to get more purple like shading 👍

  • @ladyattis
    @ladyattis ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve found going in with a plan for the model paint scheme helps. It doesn’t have to have exact steps but having the colors you want in your scheme helps set the time table imo.

    Fantastic work, they look gorgeous! I agree on the concept of pacing your painting to yourself. I think even an evening spent enjoying thinking about how to paint a model in front of you, idly twirling a paintbrush, is just as valid a pastime in the hobby as actually finishing something.

    Oil washes lend themselves inmsanely well to the "grim dark" aesthetic, I've used them for years in the world if miniature moidelling and they pick out details so well on well sculpted models.

    My son is 6 and he started painting space marines because they look like robots (he even calls them space robots). But he wants to paint them by himself (he asks for help only for the eyes) and wants a squad to fight my chaos marines (evil space robots).
    So I painted a space marine along with him and it was my first "speed painted" mini (and my first non-chaos marine).
    Thanks for the great tutorial...and a beautiful video with superb narration.

    i think they came out really nice, the gold priming gave the red colour a nice metallic look. i will definitely try that out.
    and as someone who rarly plan out my painting sessions and only goes in with a general idea, i do think it is good to make a plan and set a time for how long you will paint. i have tried it once or twice and when i look back on it i can see that i got more made then compared to when im just sit down with a general idea.
