If the roads are done right, they last just fine in winter conditions and frost. Groves are not from snow plows their from worn out highways. I live in North Dakota most of my life and snow plows do nit hurt the roads. If you dig up the bad stuff ubder the roads and place the proper layers of rock, gravel and sand, them pleave down the vaper barrior material, then properly roop and compact the materials. You then bring in portable cement and r9ck crushing factories and start mixing the roght cement mixture for cold weather environments. With it all done properly a good cement roads will last 20 to 30 years, with a little bit of repairs and sealing off all cracks. Sealing off the cracks prevents water from leaking under the roads, its water that freezes and ice, and that is what really destroys the roads much faster. This is just a rouad that alaska is not spending enough of their resorces to maintain or replace when necessary, as we can see here. Alaska is failing big time, especially with the new infrastructure bill that was passed that helps fund these things for all the different states in the U.S. Liked your video, guys! ❤
So you do need passports to drive to alrska?

I drove the Alcan 30 years ago, but I started at Dawson Creek mile 0. The road problems are the same in the same areas once you got to Watson Lake. I enjoyed the video reminded me of my trip.😊😊

That section after Kluane Lake must have the worst frost heaves to damage the road like that. Seems like it’s always been like that even 30 years ago as you said. It’s an epic trip. Glad you could relive yours through our video!

From Kluane Lake north to almost Beaver Creek you are following the Shakwa
K strike slip fault .Almost as active as the San Andeas in Calirornia Along with the frost heaves it makes the road awful . I LIVE IN Tok .

Ah that explains it! That was the worst part of the road from WA to Fairbanks. But we loved Kluane Lake it is so beautiful. We stopped there for a few hours on the way back too on a beautiful sunny warm day. I am amazed at people who live in Alaska. I couldn’t do it just can’t handle the cold and dark winters 😆 take care of yourself out there!

The mosquitoes come visit upper North Dakota or Minnesota. When you grow up with them its all a part of life. Lol. Little secret to share, for some reason l, I always say its my German blood, but as long as there are other people around me I do not get bit as much, bit if I am out by myself then I get bit more.
