This is my favorite Billy Joel song ever! This whole album is a banger! Innocent Man was Billy Joel’s tribute to the do-wop and soul music that he grew up with and was inspired by to become a musician. Also “Vienna! Is a classic song, and you’ll absolutely love it!
Billy Joel Hits! ----> ***IT'S STILL ROCK N ROLL TO ME*** and ***ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG*** are different than his usual stuff! Faster upbeat fun stuff you can't miss!
The guys are his band. Curly haired guy is still his sax player. Mark Rivera with him since 80's.1 sadly unalived himself yrs ago and others still in music. All vocals here are Billy. Look up Boyz to Men singing this live in Philly with him. You'll ❤ it.
Heck yeah, Big Shot and my favorite, The Stranger, are examples of a harder sound Joel pulled out at times. I don't think BP's landed on any of those yet, but I suspect the lyrics will hit him pretty hard.
@@VroodenTheGreat, actually Billy was dating Elle McPherson when he wrote Uptown Girl. But by the time the record and the video came out, he was dating Brinkley.
It’s the 50’s Doo wop my parents era. This is what he grew up listening to he said he wanted to make this album before his voice changed and he couldn’t hit those high notes. Uptown girl was on the same album. He’s a Long Island guy lived there his whole life and being a Long Islander myself we just love our Billy Joel. He’s the best . His song catalog is amazing. 💜
Not just different outfits leaving the bathroom -- they'd also each got 20 years younger. Back to their youth the reunion was celebrating. It's what made the janitor so surprised.
His album An Innocent Man is music all in this style--Including Uptown Girl. He does a variety of music styles--all good. Check out Scenes from an Italian Restaurant (official video) if you liked Piano Man.
All the dudes walking out of the bathroom. were young again! Billy was older, at his high school reunion. Through out the video, they get younger and younger, until they are high schoolers again.
It’s amazing watching you the last 7 months or so. We’re the same age and you’re reacting to music I grew up listening to in the car on a cassette tape. What a ride man keep it going.
Don't stop bringing out the BILLY JOEL!!! He has a dozen different styles. He's 75 now. My daughter-in- law went to see him right before Thanksgiving last year. She goes to a LOT of concerts and she said it was in the tippy top of the best ones she has seen. She said she cried a few times cause he was so good.
Billy Joel is my all time favorite artist. He is incredibly diverse. This song and all the songs on this album was written during the time he was in love with Christy Brinkley. He was writing in the style of his youth because he felt so young at heart. All the background vocals are him! He writes songs often with certain singers in mind which explains a lot of his diversity. He can write beautiful love ballads, rock songs, and even gospel songs. His lyrics are so on point. He is the one person I would love to meet in my life. If you can, please binge his music. He is the most amazing artist ever!
This song is from his 1983 album An Innocent Man, which included other hits like Uptown Girl, Tell Her About It, and Keeping the Faith. The entire album is an homage to the music and musicians Billy grew up with in the late 50s/early 60s. "Uptown Girl" was specifically a tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. "The Longest Time" calls back to the doo-wop artists such as The Teenagers and The Tymes. (In particular check out The Tymes "So Much In Love.") Also on the album are tributes to James Brown ("Easy Money"), Ben E King ("An Innocent Man"), The Temptations ("Tell Her About It") and Smokey Robinson ("Leave a Tender Moment Alone"). And just to place this all in perspective, this album came out just a year after The Nylon Curtain album, which contained much more serious songs (musically and lyrically) such as Goodnight Saigon and Allentown.
Wow! Joel has such an amazing catalog! I'd actually forgotten about this song! It used to be one of my favorites in the 80's when I was a teenager! What a fantastic blast from my past!
Black Pegasus, if you haven't I really hope you listen to The Stranger, it is a really cool tune, you won't regret it! This is a great one too, reminds of 50's. Thanks B.P.👍❤️
The Entertainer, Leningrad, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, And So It Goes, Vienna, Allentown, Pressure, The Downeaster Alexa, Goodnight Saigon, Movin' Out, New York State of Mind... the list goes on and on and on and is so diverse. There is a song for whatever mood you're in.

Vienna is an older song but definitely worth checking out! It's still rock and roll to me, She's always a woman to me, & Only the good die young should be next!!
The thing I really love about this song is the subject matter: he's not singing about being in love, he's singing about the EXPERIENCE of being in love. Anyone can sing a love song to Linda Loo or whoever, but singing about what it's like to be in love ... not many people go there. Here is my frustration with the video: when they're in the music room, they should have had this song on the chalkboard, maybe a couple lines describing the chord structure. Just a little Easter egg, a nice touch for the musically inclined kids.
His daughter with Christie Brinkley, Alexa Ray Joel, is a singer and quite the beauty. You can find some videos of her performing with her father on YT. The "Ray" is for Ray Charles, one of Billy's idols.
He has so many great songs. She’s Always a Woman, And So It Goes and Lullabye (Goodnight My Angel) are a few of my favorites. He is so talented and has such a wide variety in his catalogue. ❤✌
Billy Joel of the voice actor of Dodger in the animated Disney film, Oliver & Compamy. That film has one of the most underrated Disney soundtracks ever.

Vienna is, in fact, an older song. He may have reissued, or done a new version, if you saw a video just put out in the last couple of days - but it's originally from the same album as Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, so it's been around for a while, generally.
“You May Be Right” has always been a favorite of mine. Something about the rebellious attitude of the lyrics and the faster, upbeat tempo, that riff, and being Billy of course it’s a great melody too. Absolute banger.

Billy Joel did EVERYTHING on this track and that includes singing ALL the vocal parts for it. The whole Innocent Man album that this comes from is fantastic.
You’ll be even more impressed to find out he sang all the parts himself

RIVER OF DREAMS. one of the best!! ❤
He was married to model Christie Brinkly. Their wedding invitations said "we've wanted to do this for the longest time ".
Uptown Girl was about her, and she was the girl in the video.

Best version of this in my opinion is Live from Long Island.
We don't deserve Billy Joel, because the man is from the past, the present, and the future at the same time. Just a one-off talent.
Favorite of his ballads, though, is “She’s Got a Way About Her”. That one is beautiful.
I love that one. Been a long time. Time to listen again.
It’s crazy to me that he sang all vocal parts and made all the percussion sounds like he is the entire song 🤯🤯🤯
