I started my firewood business using an Echo Cs-590 24” $400 never one problem with it.
They are simple to get 5hp out of with basic mods, And run 3/8 chain.

Echo 590/620 is the answer here. You can get brand new home depot return saws for around $300. Lots available from HD pallet sellers

My first saw a 1996 272xp. After about a year it was woods ported for a remarkable gain of power and speed. 28yrs later it still starts and runs the same as when I picked it up from the saw shop. You're better off getting a quality saw of sufficient size and power in the long run. Two strokes do not like being lugged, they will last nearly forever running free and easy.

I was thinking about the 3120 and how the 61/272 was just a smaller version. Built to last forever and how Husky probably wished all their modern saws were made.

@@Man-Time honestly to me the 272 was underpowered stock. It bogged and stopped fairly often. After porting it gained so much it just sings easily through anything no matter how much pressure. That's free and easy. Big believer in porting.

While a husky 61 is great choice. They are all 25 years old. So they will all come with used saw issues. Can they be made to run yes. All the Ebay saws are projects. I have bought many a “good deal” on eBay and spent new saw money getting something that is usable. Add $100 for bar and chain + $100 for misc. parts + purchase price + shipping. It all adds up quickly.
I would not recommend any old used saw as the first choice for one saw operation.
Buy a new Echo 590 ready to cut out of the box. $460 Warranty & parts support of new saw model. Best value for money in today’s 60cc class saw today. The 61 was that saw but that was 40 years ago.

Really good points. I’ve never had any experience with echo stuff. I know there would be many with your same opinion. Having ran worked on several Stihl and Husky saws I chose from that pool

The Husqvarna 61 and 272 are still being manufactured in South America as of today. The 61 is the longest running production saw that I am aware of.

I just looked on the Brazilian Husqvarna sight and saw them. Man that would be cool to have a new shiny 61 or 272!

@@Man-Time you should have seen the look on the girls face a few years back at my local Husqvarna shop when she tried to tell me I couldn't get parts for my Mother in Laws Husqvarna 61 and I explained to her that yes I could. She then confirmed to her consternation that they were indeed still in production!

Forget Ebay, it no longer gets you the best deal. I got a Stihl 044 in good shape for $200 off FB Marketplace. It was dirty but the piston was in great shape, carb was good, just needed a couple little parts. It's been running like a champ. I also have a 372xp that I got used for $400, also a great saw.

I’ve had some luck off marketplace, but prices lately are sky high. The availability of pro saws in my area are so few and far between. I used to be able to find them but not much anymore.
Good point though for anyone looking to start with looking on FB marketplace.

A new echo 590 is the best budget pro grade saw on the market.

I had a buddy who said that same thing until I handed him my 61/272. And told him I had half the cost into it

That’s a great point! The value proposition isn’t there. A junker is $300 and upgrade options aren’t there. It’s a really hard to find saw in good shape. A great 60cc saw and light weight option. One of my favs

    What about 572 XP?

    • @Man-Time
      @Man-Time  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

For value I would rank it way down the list. I was comparing performance to dollars spent. If you want to spends lots of dollars and don’t want to work on a saw cause it’s new, then the 572 is at the top of the list

I think around 70+cc saw is probably most universal saw, for all needs...
    But every situation different...
I personally take reliable saw, all day - everyday, over ported formula 1 saw... 🪵
