      Hi there, first off : amazing mod, I LOVE the use of mold and the slag, adding some processing complexity and making a true foundry possible 😀
      I've been playing around with your mod and KubeJS since this video was out and from my own tests, adding a multiplier (maybe even customizable by in a config file ?) to the amount of molten metal coming from the raw ore/crushed ore might :
      - add an interest to go through those additional steps
      - avoid any possibility of infinitely duplicate metal (at first I made the mistake to "simply" duplicate the amount of ingots from the splashing step... forgetting they can be re-melted)
      Honestly, even just as it is right now, your mod is already awesome for people making modpacks and toying with recipes : it's a perfect framework to add a foundry like Tinker's Construct, like the recipes I'm working on right now is the "if you smelt ore blocks, you get that ore + some trace amount of another metal"
      Thanks for your hard work !!! (and of course thank you polartt for that video 😄)

    Im working on a modpack like this by locking certain metals behind your tech progress rather than just allowing you to work with zinc and iron at the start. You pretty much nail why Metalwork is just a flat out better mod. Universal slag is just not at all worth it unless you get a lot of it from ore processing like Immersive Engineering does.
    You'd need different richness of each type of ore slag, with each tier requiring more work to get more out of it in order to make up for not getting as much with the normal melt/press steps. I was considering going {Ore > Crushed Ore > Tailings > Swarf > Slag > Gangue} to get the best yields out of a single ore, with each step requiring more exotic materials from other mods like Create: Destroy's Sulphurics or Chloroflourocarbons. From there, instead of just heating stuff, some steps would require in-world drying times or pressure from the Destroy Chem Vat to separate further and further, which would mean more expensive/exotic tech to produce.

  • @egeoeris
    @egeoeris 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Opens up a lot of possibilities for future updates and interlinked add-ons really.
    The Centrifuge from vintage tech can separate alloys if needs be.
    Perhaps an iron waterwheel can run on flowing molten metals with way more SU but less RPM.
    Automating netherite gear by using spouts and few presses.
    (or automating making different armor by changing the combination/amount of spout and press uses on sheet metals, costing the same in ingot volume bit cooler.)
    Agreed on a higher yield on an ingot basis since they're refined.
    More realistic setup for making steel etc later.
    Cheesing infinite ore once you somehow managed to fill a 10k pool with a hosepump.
    Perhaps some cosmetic or utilitarian crafts like zinc coated pipes etc if you put the parts with the coating ore in a basin&mixer.
    Or anvill-less repairs if spouts and blaze heated depots are used.
    Over all i can see is just more cool possibilities to intertwine and branch out with a core add-on like this.

    • @ByteSizedGamer

  • @geekjokes8458
    @geekjokes8458 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    i hate that people forgot about the standard of 144mB per ingot... being highly divisible, it worked with *everything:* want one ninth for a nugget? 16mb! a nice power of 2! a number youre used to seeing in the game! want half an ingot because some (a LOT) of mods have PLATES OR RODS OR WIRES OR BOLTS that output 2 from a single ingot? fret not, 72mb! another recipe calls for two thirds of an ingot? 96mb! OH and another one needs three quarters? which, like half an ingot, is not *a whole number of nuggets?* 108mb!
    "but a bucket isnt a block!", yeah it's a lot more! and it's exactly 2 ingots and half a nugget more, no _repeating decimals_ required - doing all this calculation is mentally easy because 144 is divisible by 2 and 3 multiple times
    OH, and if for whatever reason, because no mod gives you five-fold output on a single ingot, you need to divide by 5 or 10, which are the easiest mental math, once again, no repeating decimals!
    meanwhile, with a bucket=block - which is even *visually* not quite true - mentally, the easiest divisors are the useless 5 and 10, and of course also two... but what the hell kind of recipe uses four AND A HALF ingots? and, surprise surprise, a thousand is not divisible by nine! so each ingot is *already* weird number, 111 PLUS _ONE NINTH_ - which you THEN need to divide by nine to get nuggets! 111 is divisible by 3, but NOT by 9, so you get an even weirder fraction with a bigger denominator! oh and by the way, if you're not following along, the game *wont tell you* any of that because it CANT properly display fractions! in this *very video* we saw JEI say one raw gold = 111mb, which is A LIE - the waila/jade/TOP (or whatever other mod it is) was the one showing the proper *fractional* value inside the tank, but good luck trying to make it display "1/81" _in the minecraft font_ without making it hideous

  • @SpiderKoloPL
    @SpiderKoloPL 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    Being able to melt your metals does get one massive advantage that we can get with other liquids - if you have enough of them, you can get infinite source of them you can pipe out of!
    That means that all the molten metals become renewable through that method if they weren't before.
    For that reason alone... maybe Molten Metals would be theoretically more balanced?
    It's slightly harder to pull the resource out of the infinite pool of it since you have to go trough using Molds (preferably the Iron ones since they are reusable) and you don't duplicate the resources in any way...
    That being said I like Create Metalwork for ability to melt crushed ores into the liquid as you are not loosing experience in the process... though I guess the same could be said about melting ingots in Molten Metals.
    Another thing I'm wondering about both mods: Do the new fluids get any interactions with other fluids?
    Particularly Water and Lava - with Water they could cool down into something useful, like perhaps the blocks that you could crush into respective crushed metals?
    Lava would theoretically make some sense for obtaining said rocks as well... those are rocks.
    If I was to add such interactions, I would try to make it kind of both like with Basalt Generators - you have molten metal spill into both Water and Lava at the same time - Lava to add in some stone content, Water to cool it down into the new mixture.

    • @fatmaaan3403
      @fatmaaan3403 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually, in the default configs for create, only water and lava can make infinite sources.

    • @SpiderKoloPL
      @SpiderKoloPL 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wait, really?
      Not honey, not chocolate... just Water and Lava?
      I mean obviously not milk since it can't be spilled outside of the tanks to flow - it will only slowly drain the tank away...
      I will have to investigate this... get like simple modpack with default settings and check it...
      Notably even if that's true, it can be always changed by modpack makers in settings, meaning that likely in one of the modpacks you would be able to pull those liquids and keep that as renewable source of your metals.

    • @gostlyplays
      @gostlyplays 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SpiderKoloPLmost modpacks just keep it at water and lava because like they already have molten metals from tinkers and stuff and having like infinite of any liquid is generally way too op

    • @SpiderKoloPL
      @SpiderKoloPL 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gostlyplays I can agree that in most cases having unlimited amount of stuff is really powerful... but at least for Molten Metals addon you have to go a round about way to actually pull those resources out of the system.
      One balancing factor for the unlimited metals is ability to first make unlimited source of them. You can't cheat the system by pulling them out of natural infinite source of them - you gonna min them or craft them in some way first before melting it.
      I believe for Lava you need about 10 thousand sources of lava in a single giant container. That's a lot of lava, BUT it's a lot easier to get because there is already natural source of lava in the Nether.
      With those metals though... you first will need enough to make 10 thousand liquid sources of metals (which if my math is right equates to 10 thousand BLOCKS of the stuff).
      Some are easier to get than others - Iron and Gold already having their own way of getting them renewably in basic Create and Copper being dropped by Drowned, which leaves only Zinc which isn't renewable by default (if I remember correctly, there is chance I might misremember this) as well as... Netherite.
      Yeah, getting enough Ancient Debris to melt it into infinite source of it sounds like A LOT of work... but once you reach the goal, you will never have to mine for it again.
      Considering how much work you need to even get infinite source of the metals, I think this is surprisingly balanced. Might be easier to pull on servers if everyone cooperates, but in giant servers (I know, good one) with a lot of players duking it out with each other? Well not soo easy anymore is it?

    I think the whole thing with the faster textures for the molten metals that are faster in animation, and messier, just honestly makes me think of REAL LIFE molten metals, they don't flow slowly when FULLY molten, and are quite VERY messy when poured.
    I'm gonna be honest, I think the first one doesn't need an up in efficiency, I think it's going for a more "realistic" but still minecraft feel of molten metals, as it feels like a more "real process" of molten metals, while the second one is a more "minecrafty" feel of stuff, so both I think should be what htey are, how they are, just due to how they FEEL.
    want a more realisticish (or realer feeling) molten metals from create and process? you choose the first one.

    Since andesite is a volcanic rock, it would make more sense if you could use lava to create andesite alloy, instead of "molten andesite". Kind feels like the "steel ore" in that one 1.7 tech mod.

    I think they should combine efforts! Both of these mods bring something great to the table and a unified mod would be incredible.
    I definitely think using the crushed stuff for it is better, and refinement giving you more for your efforts makes sense as well. I do think they should be cast into molds though, and simply pressing the molten stuff down to ingots doesn't feel sensible.
    I really hope they work together on this in the future, this has so much potential to become a core add-on for folks if it's perfected.
