I'm retired and finally having the time to learn photoshop via TH-cam, your 4:32 made my goals for the week be done in one click! Thanks, and now I'm subscribed too.

That’s a great tutorial Nathaniel. No loud music, no shouting. And you don’t say ‘What’s up guys’ at the start!

Thank you for explaining masks so clearly. Your analogy of a black ski mask- that made it finally click for me, even after watching numerous tutorials on masking. That’s how I’m going to think of masking, inverting, black/white brushes from now on.

Glad to see you back and making vids.
One thing I've made a habit of is softening the edges of the mask. But first contract your mask by a pixel or so, so it bites into your subject
There are a few ways to do this.
    1) Under Filters panel, apply a lite blur to the entire mask. Be sure to zoom in to a edge first so you can fine tune the blur to your needs.
    2) Convert the layer (or folder) to a Smart Object and then add your mask and apply your filter. This way you have the option to go back and adjust it at any time.
    3) For most of my projects, I simply zoom in to the mask's edges and manually apply the blur with the Blur tool. Adjusting it's size, fall-off, and strength as I go.
Doing the above helps the masked item blend into overall image better. It needs to be noted that Layer Folders can also have masks applied to them. And there's also the Clip-Mask feature. This allows you to use the layer below it as a mask. And clip-masked layers can stack. However, you can not apply a vlip-mask to a folder layer. And clip-masks do not have the same options as normal masks. But combining the many masks options does open up a lot of opportunities.
And then there are the Vector Masks that can be applied to a layer that already has a traditional mask.
Working in school photography, I use all kids of masks in my editing. Makes for MUCH smoother work when I'm not worrying about possible careless mistakes. I'm looking at you Eraser Tool, that I've not touched in literally years.

You have to create a selection, right-click that selection and choose to "Save Selection", give it a name and save it. Once you have a selection saved you will be able to use "Load Selection" to load the selection you saved. Hope that helps!

Nate, I have a question and a video request.
Since the last series of PS updates, I have had to re-enable the "Use Gpu" setting. The problem with that is it takes forever to load large files.
If I disable that setting now, my pen tool, resize handles and other features change to those grey, matching ants style visual and I can't resize or use the pen tool to draw paths.
I know many people are having the same issue and Adobe just doesn't seem to address it at all.
Do you have a solution to this and if so can you please make a video about it?
    Thanks very much 😊
