@texasjody9835 Same! I’ve always loved red wine, but since I hit my 50’s, even just one glass gives me a headache a few hours later, and I can’t stay asleep all night. A great night’s sleep means more to me than the wine these days. 😴 😊
I became sober curious in 2020, honestly, just to see if I could quit. It was actually harder than I thought it would be to just stop drinking, after doing 1-2 glasses of red wine nightly. I stopped all alcohol completely just a couple of months into 2020 and have not returned to drinking. My health, my nutrition, my body, my weight all improved. However, I did lose a good amount of friends by being alcohol-free. I miss those people, but I don't miss the life centered around alcohol. Thank you for sharing and being honest about alcohol. I hope more people with quit drinking for their health and longevity. Thanks for all your excellent videos!
I'm sorry you lost some friends. Along those lines, I "love" it when I tell a waiter that I'm having water with my meal and I see the smile leave their face. Then, I might as well be invisible. I guess kindness is directly proportional to tip amount.
Sober for nearly a year now. So happy. It changed my life. I’ve lost 50 pounds. I handle life differently. I’m more calm and I feel so confident. I feel worthy and loved. It’s great
I'm realizing this dry January that it wasn't coffee causing me anxiety, it was alcohol! The day after even a few drinks I wake up with terrible anxiety and Dread for no reason. The other thing I noticed is that when I had absolutely no alcohol this month my menstrual cramps were zero and they usually are pretty terrible. I can't believe I've been in this body almost 52 years and haven't figured this out until now. 🤦🏼♂️
General anxiety is the worst! I know what you are talking about bc i have had it too. It feels like you are going to crawl out of your skin all day every day. Thank you for sharing your story with us and i am so glad you are feeling better and found what works best for you and your body!
Autumn! This is one of your best videos EVER! Thank you for sharing your personal testimony. This message needs to be shared with every generation! ⭐🙏🏻😊
Thank you so much for saying "in spite of" drinking. As someone whose family lives right on the Mediterranean, it's always annoyed me that people slosh olive oil and red wine all over their diet and call it Mediterranean. As far as I've experienced, it's the total lifestyle that's healthy - especially factors like work-life balance, daily low-key exercise, very restrained red wine consumption and very wide variety of vegetables, fruit and yes, meat/seafood. In most Med countries like Italy, Greece, Spain etc. it's considered poor taste to get drunk, and a glass or half glass of wine is merely to enhance the meal.
I'm 60 and stopped drinking five years ago and never looked back. I joined Soberistas for support - hundreds of other middle aged women who stopped or want to stop drinking. I bought into that "red wine is good for me" culture. It's not. My sleep is a million times improved along with less anxiety. Best decision ever!
Thank you so very much for sharing this! I quit in November after a pretty significant health scare. I have no regrets quitting and it helps to not feel alone!
Some of the old studies that showed that moderate drinking was beneficial were accidentally confounded because non-drinkers who quit due to alcohol-related health issues were included in the non-drinker group, making the non-drinker group sicker. When those people were eliminated and the data reanalyzed, the non-drinking group came out ahead of the moderate drinkers. (Sorry, I don’t have specific citations at hand)
Thank you for putting this out there! It does seem like many are realizing the bad effects of alcohol. I have never had even a sip of alcohol but I’ve seen the really negative effects in loved ones.
This was an awesome video. One of my favorites just because it’s a light that needed to be shed on the culture, and because you were so honest. Thank you for that. I have been a life long sufferer of anxiety and depression. I haven’t had a drink since 2019 and I can say I’ve experienced it less since then.
I really appreciate that Autumn always emphasizes that there is individuality in the response to alcohol/food/exercise etc. and that you should be willing to adjust to find what works best for you. To me it lends her a lot more credibility than influencers who say “Do and all your problems will be solved”. Thank you Autumn!
Great message, and so important for a healthy lifestyle. I used to be confused as you used to promote dry farm wine and even some tequila brand on your channel - never understood that. Guess I’m even more confused now that you say you have not been drinking for years as that was not so long ago. Anyway, thanks for putting the message out there, the level of misunderstanding and misinformation about alcohol is astounding.
I really enjoy it when you speak about the affects our diet, exercise, and sleep have on anxiety. Do you think you could do a video on that topic specifically? Like if I suffer from anxiety, what do I need to know or what can I try to help ease it? Thanks for your consideration!
Many good reasons and points here! Thank you Autumn. I gave up alcohol when I got serious about my cancer recovery and weight loss goals (alcohol = sugar; bad for both)
Thank you for sharing this! I was in high school and college in the late 90’s early 2000’s it was a major party time. Then in my 20’s and 30’s I dated a bartender and then owned a bar. Now in my 40’s and I’m so over it! I have always suffered from the worst hangovers and basically, like you, said why am I still doing this after all these years!?!? Then I had my baby and that was it I was done I haven’t had any alcohol in almost four years. Never felt better. Sadly I have lost too many friends to lifelong use and I realized it was the best decision I could ever make.
So glad that it’s more normalized to not drink now! I’ve only had a drink one time, a vodka slushie with my husband at a pool bar, and I didn’t like it. I felt out of place in college since I didn’t want to ever drink or be pressured to, so that is in part of why I was so antisocial in college. I felt like everyone else was doing it. I hate the taste of it, and I knew I would, and I don’t like the idea of being under the influence either. Just no thanks all around. Great being a mama and in that phase of life, because I feel like I can relate to other moms a lot, and moms don’t drink around their little kids anyway, generally.
Thanks for the video! One year and three months sober and counting. Can relate to not liking the taste of alcohol; then came the craft beer movement and I found my pleasure in it but with a conscequence of becoming an every day drinker with an anti-social aspect, it became normal for me to sip on IPAs almost daily especially during and after the pandemic. Even getting ill with covid kept on drinking which probably screwed my up physically and mentally. My worst times took place in the fall-winter of 2022-23 when I had to move to another country and I would pass almost every evening in bars to… "make friends" which was an absolute fiasco, also ruined quality of sleep that added even more stress to what I already had been having, surely led to gaining weight after having lost a bunch during the said year's summer… then things went improving little by little the year '23 and I kept drinking somewhat daily but not in abundance and also socially. Then I fell ill with cold in October, had no fancy to have a couple of cold ones and decided to take advantage of that moment and see how long I'd keep going without alcohol (which happened to me like three times since 2021's fall and I had even managed to abstain for four months then). So here I am, still socially awkward at times especially when I say I don't drink alcohol but… it's still better than getting stupid and saying stuff I wouldn't normally say. My struggle is to give up sugar now. Fun fact is that I lost about 15-20 lbs eliminating it while keeping on drinking IPAs and all that jazz.
When I was younger(closer to your age) I drank and partied a lot. I didn't realize how much, until I was at my 25th high school reunion and old classmates were amazed that I was pretty much sober. That surprised me! When I did stop all this I was a new father and hangovers seem 10 times worse with a 3 year old. I still drink, but we're talking maybe 1 or two a month. At 61 years old, some of the benefits are just being alive and being more youthful looking than most my age. (yes that could be good genes) I enjoyed this video, as all of them as well.
Interesting video … I do enjoy some wine with my dinner occasionally and sometimes I have tequila on the rocks when I attend live music shows - I have never been drunk or experienced a hangover 🙂
you look younger than your age, so the way you feed yourself is working 🤓 i was drinking to be included, to be like everybody else too. i wish someone told me when i was 20 that it's ok to be sober
Congratulations on figuring this out. Alcohol isn't good for us anyway. I also have GAD but red wine has a calming effect on me. However I rarely drink it these days since I am focusing more on health.
very true. cocktails, on avg. r about 17 bucks for a vodka soda. However. kids r getting high as kites now. U can smell the pot on them when they walk into the gym.
I too did not like the taste of alcohol or how it made me feel. I grew up in a military community and they have a huge drinking culture as well as South Korea in general. When I did drink it was usually so i could... mentally check out and I mostly drank in Korea because in the states you can't just walk home where I lived. I do like some wine and champagne when celebrating or remembering a holiday or special event. I was very happy when I discovered Hop Wtr because I too wanted to "relax" and unwind with people because I can have really intense high energy and sometimes I too want to bring it down. When I'm stressed I do have one Hop Wtr, or if we visit family and friends I bring it with me so I'm drinking my own drink instead of alcohol. I also from time to time drink at night the Four Sigmatic Calm Organic Cacao mix and it helps!
Hi Autumn. I enjoy your videos. Sometimes it's a bit fast. The 2 2 things that helped your anxiety were quitting alcohol+?. I listened many times+ could get what you said.
First time on your channel. Please consider the music. It isn't necessary and is very distracting. I'm sure others need it (there is music everywhere now) but I won't be returning to your channel. Good luck to you.
Your Cute 🙂 (I know your married) & I'm sure your husband knows how Cute you are... immean he married U.. lol - hope that makes you'll smile. Thank you for all you do for the health NUT jobs community 🇺🇸💕🇨🇦✅️
Totally uninspiring. Sorry. Pretentious. So far Steven alcohol free is really only person so far that cuts the mustard. 21yrs drugs 10yrs clean. 41yrs alcohol 29days dry😢
I’m 56, it’s not worth the loss of the entire next day to recover from the few drinks the night before. Even two glasses of wine gives me a hangover.
@texasjody9835 Same! I’ve always loved red wine, but since I hit my 50’s, even just one glass gives me a headache a few hours later, and I can’t stay asleep all night. A great night’s sleep means more to me than the wine these days. 😴 😊

@@Arttevino absolutely!
Same here. One drink affects my sleep, I wake up with a headache, and my whole body feels “off” the following day.
bingo. the next day is gone. esp as one gets older. not to mention what it does to your skin.
You're doing young people a great service by posting this! Great job.

This video is so very spot on and true Autumn, and important for this world to hear right now. Thank you 🙏 🥂
Quitting drinking was the biggest gift I have ever given to myself. It really is just palatable poison.
Autumn, your honesty and delivery is always impactful! Incredible video!❤

Due to menopause I have had to reduce my alcohol consumption drastically, otherwise I will have terrible night/day sweats and body aches.

🌞 A lot of the mocktails are simply too sweet. Sparkling water with a slice of citrus or some berries as a garnish works well for me. 🍋🍓🫐
You’re lovely Autumn! Thank you for sharing this and all your healthy input. God bless you and your growing family ❤

Many good reasons and points here! Thank you Autumn. I gave up alcohol when I got serious about my cancer recovery and weight loss goals (alcohol = sugar; bad for both)
