    I am sober for 10 days. I relapsed after 3 years and I had a hard time giving up after binging for a week. Never try a drop, it kills everything, especially your emotional well being. It drags you into unnecessary depression. Your organs can recover after you quit but healing mental well-being takes a lot of courage and patience. Keep away from poison, please 🙏.

      Well done. I quit for 30 days then decided to have some red wine on a dark rainy night, and unfortunately this led to a week plus of drinking almost daily. Not to excess or getting drunk, but a couple of drinks nightly.... Enough to affect my diet, sleep etc.... This is such a hard thing to quit in my opinion

      @@laurajackson7606 In the video, he talks about how easy it is for people to get addicted to alcohol. He touches on factors such as genetics, environment, and personal circumstances that can contribute to the development of alcoholism. Additionally, he mentions the physiological processes that occur when someone repeatedly ingests alcohol, which can lead to physical dependence and addiction. The video also emphasizes the importance of seeking help and support if you or someone you know is struggling with alcohol addiction.

      @hellonewbeginnings9659 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You are 💯 correct and in ancient times it was mixed with water. You were considered barbaric if you drink unmixed wine. Depending on where you live, the ratio was different. Some was two to one some was three to one ratio. Which would bring the alcohol content down to very low either close to kombucha or a very low alcohol beer. Definitely not 17 to 21% which wine is today or 40 proof whiskey or liquor

    I love your podcasts Dr. Axe. I would like to present another possibility for why red wine might show benefits in small amounts. It seems that studies are showing that large amounts of alcohol are not beneficial. Also studies seem to be showing that sugar and highly processed foods cause fatty liver. What if it was sugar all along that caused fatty liver? Everyone I know drinks rum and coke, high sugar wine, pretzels at the bar, etc... there are obviously no studies to prove that the sugar content in alcohol is the problem but that would explain your theory that a little red wine with meals might be beneficial. It makes a lot more sense than the tiny bit of resveratrol in it

    I began drinking almost daily then daily at 21 I'm now 63. I was married to a man i hated who emotionally abused me for 17 years. We had a child together felt I couldn't leave until she was older. Then I married a full blown drunk. I haven't been been drunk in years but if I don't have a drink around noon everyday I start to shake. So now I drink about 4 drinks (rum) everyday just so I don't shake. I've read that detoxing can actually kill you if you've drank heavily for many years. I'm incredibly healthy despite my consumption. In rural Alabama it would almost impossible to do rehab besides the fact I have too many responsibilities.

    Excellent info for the alcoholic community, very much appreciated. Question, for diabetics alcohol lowers blood sugar from experience; so is there a benefit compared to drugs? I’ve noticed a whiskey drink (36 ml) with steak and garlic the blood sugar remains normal; unsure what that means in terms of health!

    I drink 4 oz. Of Pinot Noir from France with my evening meal and I don’t even think about having another glass! In Greece the Shepard behind my daughter’s home would get up at 4:30 in the morning walk about 8 miles down to the beach and back up the hill everyday. The goats ate the shrubs which were rosemary, sage and oregano, everyday the Shepherd would end the day with a bit of their goat cheese and a glass of wine and the lead shepherd was 104 years old! I think using alcohol to numb anything is a cry for help, that with a SAD diet and the horrible chems big Agriculture seeps into our food is the abomination! Docs I know tell there alcoholic patients to combat there alcohol craving with a cake or piece of pie! Go figure! What a great discussion!

    It’s impressive to me how many others understand the reason humans consume alcohol. I’ve obsessed over this topic and I won’t get into a whole rant here, but basically the only people that fully understand how I perceive alcohol consumption as well as other addicting things are usually either people in recovery or doctors. There’s a very deep meaning behind it and it takes some real obsession to figure it out but once you do, it’s actually pretty simple. It’s because we are animals.

      I just realized this is probably skewing the study results too... While i believe zero alcohol is likely best, ppl that say they had 1 or 2 drinks a week likely had 4 or 5 (no one can successfully convert their consumption to the technical "drink" metric even if they wanted). Someone that has 1 full glass of wine is probably having the actual equivalent of 2 drinks but reporting it as 1. Long story short, if the data says 1-2 drinks might be okay, it likely means 4-5 drinks might be okay. Which means 1 or 2 drinks is most likely not a problem.

      Let me specify before, if you actually read this or not that I suggest you never drink alcohol, no matter what because that is ultimately the better choice. This is only my experience.
      I like to have a glass of poisonous alcohol and sip on it during special occasions which tend to involve alcohol because it’s just a way to fit in (which has its benefits).
      I know so much about this because I’m struggling and confused about my own decision whether to drink or not I would rather not drink at all because it is better for you individually but it seems when you’re in big groups in alcohol gets brought out. It’s just a way to I guess have more fun?
      Also keep in mind that I only have a few sips on occasions and haha doc even mentioned it here.
      I have a problem with others ruining their health.
