WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??? THIS GUY WAS AB ABSOLUTE INCREDIBLE ATHLETE...YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 14:30.s 5k on the COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!! He was ...is an INTERNATIONAL PERFORMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 3:57 mile???? NUFF SAID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I stopped running competitively almost 50 years ago but I never tire of watching good runners! This was a great race and the technical quality is superior. Well done!
Ran all four years of high school same time as Reuben. For some reason I thought he went under 4:10 more like 4:07. I know at state he went under 9 for 3200M. I am sure there were many guys like me who were good in their region only to see Reuben’s times and feel like a turtle! I hope he is still running because I am! (: Awesome athlete he was with a great attitude.
Didn't they take the top ten at regionals in 2014? I am pretty sure there have been 80 runners for quite a while. This 1985 race was one of the last with less than 40 in each race.
Can we have thegirl's race footage uploaded, please? I'd like to see Erin Keogh, Suzy Favor, and Mary Hartzheim racing. I think the 1987 winner Kira Jorgensen was in the 1985 too?
Damn this is crazy, I didnt know they had footage for 1986 Footlocker XC XD lol
His time was a blistering 14:36, or 4:42/mile. He also ran a 3:57 mile and represented the U.S. in the 1992 Olympics where he ran 13:25 in the 5k

Little known fact, Reuben Reina was a 4:10 miler from Texas
lol

He ran a 4:05 in the spring after this
Great race, great footage, and SUPER coverage and commentary by MARTY LIQUORY!
Love it! Ruben Reina still has the course record there as well. They got after it with that 4:32 opening mile! Great stuff!
Troy Maddox was a sacrificial lamb here and made Rubens time come down.
This is such a 80's sounding audio.
Yep, 1985 to be exact
Geez, their first mile is the same as my all out best 1600m on the track.
Amazing to watch! I'm always glad I finished 8th at regionals in 2014 because at least I wouldn't still qualified originally.

The course was in really good condition and looks much faster when compared to the last 10 years!
@@charliewatkins4571 not to mention Cheserek would've handily beaten this group and I think he "only" ran low 14:50s in 2011.
@@weezadam I think the same with andrew hunter and lucas verzbicas. They had little to no competition in both their respective races
What a great race
The greatest high school cross country race ever run
would've agreed until yesterday's performance at RunningLane from Newbury Park
The announcers talk like I do on Spanish speaking tests
“The competition continues to be deEep, with four men in competition for the win.”
Holy crap 14:36
My dad was on Eric mastilars and Mark mastilars cross country team in 1985
lol the guy at 8:20
carlos flores he could’ve been dq-ed with arms flailing like that.
Troy Maddox was a strong runner!
John troutmann has a kid that's pretty good right

Is the distance still a 5k right there? If so holy shit
Yes it is a 5k
Only 3s of coverage for Erin. I came to see her run. I remember watching her run a 10:15 2m at the Penn State invitationals back then.
I'd have also liked to see more Erin Keogh
Jerry Seinfeld's Asian nephew really showed out that day.
Is this the course record?
Yes, it is.
Still is. Both boys and girls records are from quite a while ago. 2019 race had the girls record scared.
Lukas Verzbicas. Could have won this race. LV was never really pushed.
You may be right about that. I bet Drew Hunter could have as well in 2015
