Terrific song! "Time of the Season" is also a classic by The Zombies. However, Rod Argent left the band to create the amazing Argent, which created some of the greatest Prog Rock music ever, especially on their Circus album, but they are best known for their hits, Argent's biggest hit being the classic '70s track "Hold Your Head Up," which is one of the greatest songs ever. ALWAYS react to the long version of HYHU. You will put it immediately on your playlist, it's that stinking great! Argent, my man! ❤✌
@@stratocruising "Thunder and Lightning" and "Man For All Reasons" are also great, radio friendly songs, but "Circus" "Trapeze" and "Clown" from the Circus album are Prog foundations for future bands, sounding more like Prog from the late '90s or '00s than the mid '70s.
The Zombies were just so damned _cool_ . By all means, "Time of the Season" is a truly necessary 1960s cut, and many of their other songs are still fresh, like "Tell Her No" and "I Remember When I Loved Her." Keep an eye out; they may gig near you soon!
Another one of the great British bands from the 60's. Their biggest hits were "She's Not There", "Tell Her No", "I Love You" & "Time Of The Season". Some other songs by the group are "Woman", "I Remember When I Loved Her", "The Way I Feel Inside", "I Can't Make Up My Mind", "I Don't Want To Know", "What More Can I Do" etc. Their 1968 album Odessey & Oracle is really great!
Songs by the Zombies were still playing on the radio in the 70s. "Time of the Season" and "She's Not There." The band Argent, featuring Rod Argent of the Zombies, had a 70s anthem "Hold Your Head Up."
I was 12 when this song came out and it is still a great song and a great memory. Hullabaloo (Hull-a-ba-loo) was one of several weekly music variety shows of the time. This one ran two seasons and was shown in Prime Time.
"Canned audience" is the sound of laughter or applause in live shows, where the sound is taped and played, so a laugh track or applause track, rather then the actual audience. You hear it in many live recorded TV shows in the 60s, where the audience response might have been quiet, but the producers put the sound of people laughing at the end of a joke or funny scene, or applause at the end of a scene.
@@carolegrafton5748 I heard that they had to cancel. Was sad. They didn’t have dates set near me so I haven’t gotten to see them except for an online concert they put on earlier this year that was great.
That organ solo by Rod Argent is awesome. His Hammond B3 organ solo in the hit, "Hold your Head Up" by his later band Argent, is regarded by Rick Wakeman (keyboardist for the band, Yes) as 'the' greatest Organ solo ever!
I love that song. The Zombies' Time of the season is one of my favorite songs. The lyrics: "And let me try with pleasured hands To take you in the sun to promised lands" hits me deeply every.single.time. I think that you would like it.
The Zombies and The Animals are my favorite bands from the '60s. "Time of the Season" is just an incredibly sultry sound from The Zombies, and I highly recommend checking it out.
The Zombies feature in the 1965 movie "Bunny Lake Is Missing". They appear on the TV in the pub scene singing this song. It added to the palpable 1960s London vibe of that film.
Wow, I haven't heard this song in years! I really enjoy sharing the music of my life with young people. You teach me trivia and sometimes, a new way of looking at old favorites. Thanks!
I heard this song so many times, and loved it, when I was a kid (yes I'm really old) that to this day when I hear it I can't help but sing along out loud.
Keep up the good work, SalvoG. You'll hit 100K in no time. You have a unique TH-cam channel format with you reacting to music that was popular before your time. It it is fun for me who remembers the songs and is now watching someone else hear it for the first time.
I love seeing reactions to the music that was popular during my teen years. We took it all so for granted and the appreciation you have reminds me that we were exposed to such great music. Thank you for your analysis.
One of my all time fave songs from that era. Superbly written. Beautifully sung. This and The Animals ‘House of the Rising Son’ are two of my all time fave songs
I love this song, heard it throughout my childhood. I haven't heard it in decades but just sang along to it. I also agree that 'Time of the Season' is a classic and worth a reaction.
So cool, so smooth. Merged a pop sensibility with a distinct R&B edge - the start of a sound that would become "Northern soul" (the UK equivalent of the US's "Blue-eyed soul"), even though they weren't from the north of England where many of that movement's bands came from. "Time of the Season" is their other main masterpiece (and contains one of the best pick-up brags in history!) "A Rose for Emily" shows their softer side and is another great track, as is the role-reversing "Care of Cell 44", which was startling in it's time.
The Zombies were great, I saw them at a British Invasion concert and was blown away. I loved their jazzy vibe. Very interesting how Colin sounded like he was singing and whispering at the same time. Very cool. Thanks for this! BTW, Hullabaloo is pronounced hull-a-ba-LOO. We all watched this show and Shindig every week to see the new acts (and the Righteous Brothers on Shindig).
Santana did a great cover of this song in 1977. It's longer with a lot more instrumentation but stays very true to this version. An excellent one to listen to and compare.
Colin Blunstone had a solo hit in the UK with Danny Laine's Say You Don't Mind. At the end of the song he hots a really high note. The Zombies are still performing live and Colin can still hit that high note. Not bad for a man approaching his 80s
Great song. I was only a year old when this came out. Still love this one. "Time of the season" will captivate you more. Well, at least as much, lol. They had a great sound.
I didn't realize Rod Argent was a founding member of this band. I noticed you reacted last month to his later band, 'Argent', who had the hit, "Hold Your Head Up"
I am so excited about some of the choices you make. They are so spot on. You get great recommendations and you follow through on them and it's so enjoyable. You got a great channel. You do a great job. Thanks for sharing
The British Invasion (about mid-60's) - Beatles, Zombies, Dave Clack 5 Herman's Hermits etc. - if you are OLD ENOUGH ( I AM) you lived though this and enjoyed it ALL !! :-)
Love 60’s music and really enjoy your adventures my musical youth… I was 9 when this came out but I was lucky my best friend has older sibs, so we got exposed to a wide variety early on… so glad you like a variety of music!
Colin Blunstone's solo albums "One Year" and "Ennismore" have some great sophisticated pop songs on them -- "Caroline Goodbye" and "I Don't Believe in Miracles" come to mind immediately.
There was a time after 1964 that whenever an ear-catching new song came on the radio, you would think it was a new Beatles song. They were The Mustangs before the name change to The Zombies, which some members didn't know what a zombie was. The NBC TV Show, Hullabaloo which aired in early primetime on Tuesday and then Monday, it had a different guest host every week and featured popular musical acts of the day, ABC had a similar show called Shindig! Time Of The Season was another big hit for The Zombies. Even now, their unique and iconic sound catches the listener's attention and doubtless will forevermore, based on your reaction. :)
This brings me back to being 12 years old, upstairs in my room with my "record player". This 45rpm record being played over and over and over again. Still love that song❣️
_The Zombies_ are so much more than the 3 hit singles they are known for --- they had a great, melodic and mysterious baroque sound that fused together with the more popular pop style of the early _Beatles_ to form something special and unique --- their later stuff, recorded in 1967 but released in 1968 on their _Odyssey and Oracle_ album is simply poetic and ethereal. Try any of the songs below, these are just a sampling, there are many others --- most are unknown, but all are great. The fist song on the list you just heard and #14 is an absolute must that you must react to next if you haven't already --- but as I said, even their secondary, unknown tracks are worthwhile. Truly special artists that unfortunately never received the recognition they deserved. (01) - She's Not There (02) - I Remember When I Loved Her (03) - Just Out Of Reach (04) - How We Were Before (05) - Remember You (06) - A Rose For Emily (07) - Beechwood Park (08) - Brief Candles (09) - This Will Be Our Year (10) - Hung Up On A Dream (11) - Changes (12) - Imagine The Swan (13) - Smokey Day (14) - Time Of The Season (15) - Conversation Off Floral Street (an instrumental)
I really appreciate your effort to look up some background and getting the basic context of the songs you react to. I'm was professional musician 40 years ago that ventured into Progressive Rock. One of the bands that inspired me was the post Zombies collaboration; Argent, with former Zombies Bass player Chris White as producer/songwriter and Rod Argent's Cousin Jim Rodford on Bass who wrote a song called; Music of the Spheres. As a young musician in the 1970's this particular song had a profound, positive affect on me. Jim Rodford would join The Zombies when they regrouped in the 2000's. About 10 years ago I rediscovered The Zombies and was blown away by their new recordings and they became my Favorite Band. The Zombies and Argent were two bands that became very popular with; and influenced many other musicians. Hence the reason why The Zombies are in the RRHF, with only 3 hit singles; They were that influential and inspiring. They had a very distinct sound. Similar to The Moody Blues. Maybe try their "Go Now" in honour of singer Denny Laine who passed today (also in Wings with McCartney)
Colin Blunstone voice is unbelievable and he has recorded solo albums as well as singer for the Alan Parsons Project. Rod Argent produced Colins solo albums as well as writing songs for him. I suggest you listern to "Old and Wise" which is very emotional song and highlights Colin's supreme tone and phrasing. The Zombies (never really broke up) have recorded new albums over the last few years. As a side note Santana did a cover version on their Moonflower album which with deeper depth of instruments is superb just a great song.

Oh, Hell yeah! Studio versions were the way to go "back in the day".
"Hold your Head Up " is an excellent song. I've always been Partial to "Liar" off the same album. Has a sweet keyboard bridge and guitar outro.

"Time of the season" is their best! It's timeless.
Yep. Old school groovy jazzy rock-'n'-roll right there.

Gotta do the Zombies' "Time of The Season"!

Watching people discover new/old music is great! It’s like hearing it again for the first time through your experience. Love that and great choice!
Great song from my adolescence. Santana later did a fantastic cover version as well.

"Say you don't mind". Enjoy it!
Beautiful song. I listen to it regularly.
OMG, you gotta listen to "Time of the Season."
Loved this! Pre-show to the 70s which was the best music ,!
All singles had to be under 3:00 to insure airplay back in the day. I still go to see them whenever they're in the area.
The Zombies have a ton of great records. Worthy of a deep dive.
