@@brethenning9486 I love in upstate New York. It's not everyday this happens but, when it does. You know it by the sound it makes when it hits your hand!!

I have 2 5 gallon buckets filled with constitutional Roosevelt dimes. I have 1 5 gallon bucket full of constitutional half dollars libertys Franklin's and Kennedys. All from my days of working large paper routes over 65 years ago.
The young man in the video nailed it. You can lay down any combination of fractional coins, but if the situation is so dire that you are using silver coins as currency, the silver dollar will win. It's just more appealing. Also, get used to the idea of overpaying for any goods or services in those circumstances. So while everyone is counting their Roosevelt's and figuring out weights, you can just lay down a large coin and walk away with the goods.
Agree, even if they are a fairly plain looking coin, especially so compared to walkers. I got 4 rolls of halves at my bank today and got skunked, unfortunately.
I've always liked the half dollars, but I think the wise thing to do is to have some of each. Just like with our bills today, you need to be able to make change.
Yeah, they really didn't touch on that. If you're going to stack junk silver for the purpose of being able to one day buy and sell with it, you should get some of every size.
When bartering the relative value of the coins will be what matters. Silver dimes , nickels, quarters etc. doesn’t matter the year as long as it’s silver. Minor variations would only matter in large melt operations. Today you’d accept a crumpled twenty as fast as a crisp one.
Exactly! @7:30 he says that his friend says that people will be weighing the dimes for their actual silver content. Really? On a coin that can currently be traded for a loaf of bread (~$2), does it matter if it has 1.97 or 2.03 worth of silver?!?! I would not be wanting to trade with someone that nitpicky!
I absolutely LOVE these types of videos! I really didn’t look twice at junk silver except finding it out and about to sell later. Bartering with silver is a newer concept to me but I love it! I will end up getting some of all of them anyway! Dimes, quarters, halves, barter bags, divisible bullion!
Dragons & Yankees and several other stacker/numismatic tubers all do a great job educating and entertaining us with more content. Dragon and Harry can’t make videos all day everyday like we want so name dropping ones that you have become friends with and respect their content is actually a nice touch using lite hearted ribbing!
Truth about the Roosevelt. My dad had a 61 Roosevelt in his car’s change holder last week and didn’t even notice. I liberated it and added to my stash.
Not if everyone uses bitcoin instead. There are just way too many fakes and no way to verify if they're real. Bitcoin is always real or it won't even show up in your wallet in the first place.
Lol, outing Yankee on the Roosevelt dimes like that is a nice plug even though you are poking him for it. I enjoy watching both of your channels and enjoy seeing references to other channels I watch.
Thank you for teaching us about the coins and sharing your passion. You all are really outstanding. I look forward to coming by your shop when we return to the west coast.
The other aspect that I never thought about before watching this is that the “price” of everything will be “higher” than what is you are paying? Something to think about. Great question video!

When the day comes where I'll have to use junk silver coins to barter with I'll first be using my most worn coins and reserving the less worn ones for last. My local coin store doesn't sell dimes, quarters and half dollars by face valve anyway. They sell them by weight. Spot times 0.9 is what I pay so worn coins don't bother me as a buyer, but like I said when I trade them off the most worn ones will be gone first.
If you think about it, it's a variation of "bad money pushes out good money" because everyone who is paying attention to the weight will be pushing off their light coins to the people who don't know or who maybe don't care about the weight difference. Eventually, everyone will figure it out and the light ones will be universally considered less valuable.
I say buy them all. They all have their purpose, not sure barter is the use but it's possible. The most important thing is the value they hold just being true money.
Washie quarters are the best deal in junk. I can still grab a few for very close to $5 a pop. Even Rosie dimes are creeping beyond 10% over melt and I just can’t do it.
I just visited Harry’s shop for the first time today!
