    I had to come back and put a comment after trying this. I stumbled upon this video after putting all my strength to turn open the oven bulb cover. The packaging tape idea explained in the video worked like a charm. I dint have to warm up the oven though. Thanks a lot for this tip!

    I've literally never had a problem opening a jar, but the light cover in my Samsung was giving me hell. Strap wrench doesn't fit in my gas oven due to a line to the broiler. I used heat + rubber coated gardening gloves to finally get purchase.
    Thank you!

    Thank You Thank You, I couldn't believe how quick it worked and just like you instructed. I had Black Gorilla tape and tore from the roll a 1'wide strip for about 15"s off the roll. Secured the taped to the glass cover starting from about 4:00 and then counter clockwise over the top of glass to 9:00 and pulled straight down. It gave way almost immediately and at first I thought the tape must of tore but to my delightful surprise the glass cover was loose and now easily removed. I tried for days on-and-off, heat, wd40, gripper gloves, oil filter removal tools, to no avail. And then this!!! 1-2-3 done!!!!

    Aloha Lyle. . . and our favorite Latin lurker, et al.,
    I've struggled with this cover nonsense for the last 90 days or so...
    I'm giving your solution a try this evening...
    * * *
    You forgot to mention: "You can thank me later..." [ a good closing for any DIY video venture... (wink) ]
    * * *
    With that, I am thanking you now for your effort... very well done for your first endeavor and very helpful for those of us who are not so DIY inclined... (wink)
    * * *
    Until that time. . .

    I think the tape idea with heat would work in most cases. I did try the tape but used a heat gun to heat just bulb cover so I wouldn't be getting into a 200 degree cubicle. After all of that I was about to give up but I remembered having left over various band-clamps from my by-gone years as a contractor. I put one of those on the cover and tightened it as much as I dared to then used a rubber mallet and the hex driver still on the nut and kept gently tapping it and to my surprise it worked. I don't think I would have thought of this though without building on your idea. So thanks Lyle!

    If this is your first video, you're off to a good start. I'm a pretty decent DIYer and usually can figure things out on my own, but I was stumped on this doing it without buying a tool. Bought a new oven a couple months ago and the bulb already burned out. Could not get that cover off for the life of me. Used duct tape and your method and had it off in 20 seconds.
    Thanks!

    Thanks Lyle. I watched this after struggling for a while and eventually figuring out my own method. So sorry but too late to try your method.. But this worked for me. I got a piece (approx 10 inches) of 14/2 Romex. I wrapped it once around the lamp cover then twisted the ends of the Romex in a spiral as tight as I could get them. (Moderate finger strength needed). As you twist the ends together the loop around the lamp cover tightens. This gives you something to grab on to - both the wire around the bulb and the twisted ends. And the Romex has good grip. Then just turn counter clockwise. First try, no effort and it worked.

    This suggestion didn’t work for me at all. The duct tape snapped as soon as I pulled on it. I even bought the plastic Neff “oven light remover” tool, which also just pops off.
    In the end I used an old bicycle inner tube for grip and then wrapped a leather belt around it as an improvised strap wrench. A few seconds of that and it twisted right off.

    $7.99 for the wrench is a bargain - especially since that's for two of them, shipped and sold by Amazon. And now I'll have them for whatever else you might need to open, even jars. This tip is a great way if you're in a hurry and don't want to wait a couple days for Prime so it's worth watching but I'll wait to get mine off until Wednesday (it's Monday now) when the wrenches arrive.
    Also, you already loosened yours so it's not exactly clear if the first one was more difficult or not. I assume that it worked mostly as well and that your tip is a great one. It's a great workaround, potentially for other spinning needs as well, for when you don't have the tool.
    Perhaps an even better lesson from your video is that you demonstrate thinking outside of the box. You remind me of my grandfather who could solve any problem and fix anything.
